It is a truly beautiful place. Sometimes I struggle to believe that there could be somewhere so amazing just a short drive from my house. I'll definitely be back there in autumn!
What a lovely relaxed vlog and a beautiful wood. Perfect viewing on a rainy Saturday afternoon, now I'm itching to get out with my camera. Love the ICM shots too.
Well my friend you really came back with a bang.... What an amazing place i have been so upset of late with my photography, and have lost my happy place, all i wanted to do over the past couple weeks was take some photos of bluebells, something i have never done... you hit the nail right on the head amazing, oh i and i dont like the ICM much, BUT you even made me like them you got a couple unique images WOW
Paul Compton PDphotography Thanks mate. I know what it can be like to have your confidence knocked, but you will be fine because I know you’re a very good photographer and it’s clear that you love doing it 👍 Your comments are always appreciated mate and I’m glad you enjoyed the images 😀
Stunning mate. Love the ICM and the zoom shot takes me back to the 80s when that was all the rage. the production and edit of on this vlog is first class
It’s wildflower season here in Texas as well. :) This looks like a beautiful locations. Deserves a return! Really neat to see those threes and the blue bells. Thanks for sharing.
Really enjoyed this vlog there are always some people who have negative things to say they only do it because they can’t do what you do, keep up the good work
Top drawer Gary. That fourth shot in the first batch with the sun backlighting the bluebell flowers, giving them a bit of an outline is the money shot! Saying that, the 12 shot panorama is particularly strong too. Really enjoyed that vlog. Thanks for explaining what ICM stood for - i've been wondering for a while.
Stripped back vlogging you'll create a new trend. As with all your vlogs I really enjoyed that. You got some great shots, i liked the 12 shot pano. I was told many years ago that bluebells only grow in deciduous woodland so there's the evidence. Can't wait until the next one
Garry Blackburn it’s so stripped back that I thought about changing the channel name to ‘The Naked Vlogger’ but it might attract the wrong type of subscriber 😂😂😂. Thanks for the kind comments 👍
Nice vlog. Turns out I was at Dockey Woods that very same day! I spent about six hours there and really enjoyed myself. Out of all the photos I took that day there were only a couple that sort of turned out the way I wanted. Wasn't that pleased with them but posted to Flickr anyway. You got several nice images. I wish I had taken a few of the isolated close-up like you did. As you noted the bluebells were past their prime and I didn't think it would work out. You proved otherwise. Keep up the good work Re. Cheers!
Jeff Ogden I wonder whether we unknowingly crossed paths at all? Thanks very much for the kind comments 👍 What is the name of your Flickr account, I’ll take a look 😀
I don't think we crossed paths. I had not seen your channel at that point, but I didn't run into many photographers that day. Actually, I wonder if you went on to Dockey Woods or were you in adjacent Ashridge? There is a car park for Dockey and you must cross the road and enter a gate to get into the Dockey Woods area. It is a distinct, confined 2-3 acre space with a perimeter fence. It is an incredible display of bluebells, but much less open than Ashridge. Both areas are great and I will return next year. I just followed you on Flickr. Cheers!
Lovely vlog a couple of vertical images you took about halfway through where beautiful ( 28mm-1/30 sec-F10-Iso 125) and the next image (70mm-1/60 sec-F10-Iso400, both images a carpet of Bluebells and woodland were stunning ) I can just see those hanging in the hallway of my apartment around A3+ in size either side of my very old longcase Thermometer. I also liked the last images which you deliberately blurred with camera movement, the compositions really worked well.
Really pleased to see this vlog pop up in my notifications after your FB post mate, great to see you out and enjoying your photography. Have to say you came away with some cracking images. Love those SDOF shots, especially the one at 3:05. And those ICM images were really effective and artistic, got to try that myself. Great work mate and good to see you have your mojo back 👍
Great vlog with some beautiful images, best to ignore the haters! I've been to local bluebell wood 3 times this week! Always struggled with woodland images!
David Burn I think that woodland photography is probably the most difficult thing that I do, but on the odd occasion that I get it right it’s the most rewarding too 👍
Beautiful work Gary. You seemed relaxed and proof in the pudding by getting lost in the woods and in your own thoughts. Love the shallow depth of field stuff and the ICM was excellent. Receiving negative comments is inevitable. Tom gets thousands I’m sure. It’s a reaction meaning you’ve stirred an emotion so well done. Great vlog this. 👍👍
James R Burns thanks mate, you’re so right I was incredibly relaxed by the end of that vlog. It was just nice to almost forget all about the end product and just enjoy the process. Again you’re right about the comments. I think was being a little precious to be honest and sometimes I have to remind myself why I started and continue to enjoy vlogging and photography 👍

Some great shots Gary, nothing better than a Bluebell wood with sun light! Nice to see, just basic camera shots as I'm Mr Auto man!!!! It's all about going out, exploring and taking photographs! Word of warning about laying down in the grass - lay on a jacket or sheet (where I used to live in Dorset, did some low level shots of flowers from the ground and got home to discover my chest covered in ticks!!!!!). Many thanks for sharing your work and enjoying photography :)
Expat in Mazarron thanks very much for comments and the advice. I went home with a very dirty shirt for my efforts but fortunately no ticks 😬. While it’s nice to control the camera most of the time, it’s quite liberating at times just to go out and shoot without too much thought for all the settings 👍
Really enjoyed this video, you've taken some great images, going back to basics with just your camera and no other gear proves that you don't need to spend a lot of money on fancy equipment to take great images, glad that you have found your inspiration again, and you have definitely inspired me to get out there and get shooting. You are so right photography should be above all else fun.
Gary. Haters are gonna hate no matter what! Your work is great. I watch and enjoy all your vlogs along with many others. Your work is one of the reasons I've had a go at it myself! Keep up the good work.
Great Vlog Gary keep up the great standards you have set, let the negative comments spur you on to greater things, really hope we meet up again soon, its a long time since I shot handheld and your vlog has got me to go out and get the basics again, thanks for this vlog barry
Barry Johnson thanks mate, I have to say it felt good to ditch the tripod (for at least a short while anyway) and just enjoy being creative. Next time I’m in your neck of the woods I’ll let you know 👍
Funny how a couple of negative comments can knock ones self esteem, especially when weighed against a shed load of positives. I find it hard to understand how anyone can take the time and effort to knock someone down after watching some the quality, well made videos that you produce. Beggars belief sometimes. Keep up the good work. You are an inspiration.
Wow, thank you so much for those kind words :-) I think to be honest that I was being a bit overly sensitive at the time and I'm in a much better place now :-)
Back to basics definitely brought your confidence and passion back to the forefront, and the images show that. Awesome video sir. Thanks for the link too, although it looks like I'm taking a photo of Tim :)
Really enjoyable vlog Gary... glad to see you have the motivation back. I have struggled for months with photography so vlogging is deffo out the question atm. I have scrapped so many attempts it became ridiculous. Your images were gorgeous and the location looked fab.
Hi, another great video and photos, the bluebell and ICM pictures work really well. I go to Ashridge every year to photograph the bluebells, it is an amazing place. Keep up the great work, I always enjoy your work, it inspires me to get out and photograph. :)
Nice work Gary. Love the ICM shots, I might try doing some properly next time I'm out :-) Like the bluebells shots too, I think you have your mojo back :-D
Gary only been following your work for a short time now, however you always inspire me to get up of my backside and get outside with my camera. Really enjoyed this one, some lovely images and the ICM is awesome👌🏻 A simple approach can sometimes be the best as you’ve shown. Well done and I hope you found your car.
You are not mistaken :-) I'm still getting used to it, and finding that the app is good for some things but not so good for others. I also noticed a little 'drift' when setting it down but that could be me not putting it in the correct mode... Overall though it definitely handles the weight of my phone better than the q, and I'll be able to be more creative with it in the long term
Great video and your images were terrific, really liked your vertical panning shots of the trees that worked great. I'll keep an eye out for your other videos too. Subbed. :)
I really enjoyed this vlog. You do come across as really natural, which is difficult to achieve. Don't take anyone's negative comments to heart (including mine). If you get something out of vlogging do it! I had the same idea in spring about bluebell shots. Found a beautiful bluebell wood on the edge of my village, wonderful golden hour light raking through the trees, worked my way, take shots as I went, to the top of the hill and saw a stick with a sheep's skull stuck on it. 'Having that!' thought I, as I made my way through the young ferns. Whallop...bit by an adder! Most of a year later I've still got some nerve damage, got the shot though. Now I know why someone stuck a skull on a stick. Those ICM's of yours look fantastic, mine just look like I've dropped the camera :-)
Great video, what time of day did you visit, seems nice and empty. Also can you walk amongst the carpet of Bluebells or is it all fenced off with branches now?
Beautiful mate. Some really great ICM. Wish I'd tried with a faster shutter also! I was very really impressed with the b-roll around 2.40 where the focus shifted from one bluebell to the next then the next one. Don't let the negatives it weigh the positives. We give far too much weight to one negative over 30 positives
John Haswell Photography very true mate, I’m trying to focus on the positives going forward. The focus shift is courtesy of my new gimbal (the smooth 4) which has a focus pull dial for smartphones 👍 I had a lot of fun with the ICM, and it seems to be a popular subject at the moment 😉
