The octave mandolin is the baritenor mandolin whereas normal mandolin as in bluegrass band is the contralto mando.

the scale length is 3 inches shorter than an octave mandolin, and on a bouzouki the two lowest strings are tuned in octaves, while on an octave mandolin they're tuned in unison. the two instruments are so very very similar.

Bouzouki came from Greece but this instrument (octave mando) came from Italy.

Great riffs! That's a fine sounding octave too -- looks like you are in standard tuning?

I think these things are tough to play. Fret spacing much bigger than mando, so more hand movement required. Finger pressure needed to get clean tone on the doubled strings is high.
