THANK GOD FOR JB 🙌🏽🙌🏽 and he’s right, he doesn’t get to give any feedback on Matthews because Kyp solely places blame at his feet and so JB has to point out all the other deficiencies!!
The top 3 teams in the NHL (Winnipeg, Minnesota, Dallas) dont have a 10+M contract but a deep depth roster. The Leafs core four is a disaster because it costs over 50% of the cap and can't afford a top end goalie, while the bottom 6 looks lost and confused much of the time. If Matthews can't outscore the problems, the team goes nowhere.
when the canucks hired Tocchet , i thought he was the wrong coach for the team . I didn't think the players could/would play the style he wanted . i was wrong . the canucks are an awesome team to watch . I get the same feeling about the leafs ...... the players don't seem to be buying it , so far .
The core group is the issue... we've seen this show for years... things won't really change till Marner walks/ traded and JT traded? The money needs to be allocated across different players...
Is it time to consider the possibility the Leafs are not built to play Berube,s style. It time to play a system geared to their strengths. Edmonton Oilers did quite well winning games 6 to 5 or 7 to 6.
They needed to make moves summer of 2021, too late after that. Now their only course of action is to let a couple of players walk for nuthin. That's bad management.
@@vt1340 Gee, all these super-talented collections of hockey generational star players, but they get regularly beaten by less talented TEAMS that play together. Looks like paying all your cap space to a few people to score goals doesn’t work if you don’t have a balanced squad out on the ice with more than one or two small groups of players. - Who knew?
The Blues were actually missing their best player, Robert Thomas, who had 86 points last season. The difference is, they have depth throughout the lineup so an injury (even a devastating one like that) doesn't cripple them.
"tired of hitting", that's funny. Matthews threw a hit on his first shift of the season (I think), but he's gone right back to the fly-by forechecking. Never engages physically. Even little Nick Robertson is more physical. And other than a precious few, most of the Leaf forwards are not physically engaging at all.
Justin's constant defense of captain underpants, even when he had the worst (regular season) game of his career, honestly hurts his credibility as a "talking head"
15:40 People feel like they could have built a better team with the amount of opportunities and changes that could have been made. . . they'd have two cups by now lol.
@@korbendallas7181 That's why the Maple Laffs will not win the Cup in the next few years. The core 4 can play any way they want, get their HUGE paychecks, and are immune from any criticism because management protects them and undermines any coach.
Sorry Kyper but to blame the second goal on Matthews without mentioning McCabe is wrong. McCabe bobbled the puck in the corner then gave it to Matthews like it was a game of hot potatoe. Not defending Matthews though that might have been his weakest game defensively and at times looked disinterested.
Kyper glazing Marner, what else is new? Say what you want about Matthews but he has the ability to drive play and singlehandedly win games. Mitch doesn’t.
Why does Kyper hold Auston to a standard that he holds no one else to? Two way player that scores 40+ goals a season… where is the issue? Genuine question
I’d say Woll looked super rusty, but unprepared?? That’s catastrophizing and a half. Definitely don’t think you can pin that game on him, he didn’t see the first one, second is all alone with all day, third is an unexpected pass to the middle for a quick shot that’s elevated, and the fourth squeaks by barely inside the post. With more game reps he maybe gets the second or the fourth, unlikely to be both. They got the goaltending they deserved last night
A guy a few years out of his prime vs. guys in their prime, big difference, at least JT shoots rather than constant passes or passing it off the opponents shin pads and out of the zone
The greatest goalie in world can't stop pucks when you have a bunch of left-overs & has-beens as defensemen. But that's what Toronto has had for years since they decided to put all their cap space in just a few forwards. The Maple Leafs are all regular season supers and playoff pushover puppies. Getting rid of Marner will not change anything as long as a certain someone who wears 34 only cares about his paycheck and his regular season records. Only when he wants to play with grit will the Leafs win.
Leafs win with lorentz on the 4th. OEL on bottom pairing and Matthew’s playing with domi. And let them wing it on the pp. it’s painful to watch right now.
Doing the same thing, the same way over and over and expect a different result is the definition of not only insanity, but the Leafs. Good luck winning any cup with this core 4 as-is… 👎🏼👎🏼👎🏼
