Jimmy Hamilton’ late 1954 album ‘Sweet But Hot’ album featuring: Jimmy Hamilton (clarinet) Clark Terry (trumpet) Barry Galbraith (guitar) Sidney Gross (guitar) Oscar Pettiford (bass) Osie Johnson (drums)
@@hardyblues2194 Mr. Hamilton was extremely chill. He moved like a man with a lot of dignity. There were times when he would become impatient with us because we didn’t practice like we should . He would say , “pack it up .” The emphasis was on pack .
I have an album by "Jimmy Hamilton - Rediscovered at the Buccaneer" from the 1980s. Its never been played, still in the shrink wrap never opened. Do you think that I should hold on to it ? I have been offered $25 for it and I felt insulted.
Nicely played relaxing to listen to but lacks feeling and passion. Sounds over-rehearsed played exactly as written. More like a lullaby than blues. Would love to hear the rest of the disc. Don't hear much modern stuff on clarinet. For real Jazz blues on clarinet listen to George Lewis, ( particularly his own composition Burgundy St Blues) or Omer Simeon or Sammy Remington or the more modernistic Johnny Dankworth.
