I've been playing for 4 months and am very new to the concept of "scales". As soon as I learned the Am blues scale I came here to jam along, randomly climbing up and down the scale. This might be my first improv but man that felt so good!

Yes! I'm not a very good player, but man.... with a killer backing track like this one, I can do the same. Get into a groove with the pentatonic scale, all up and down the neck.... and just have a field day with it! Get my sound system dialed in, up there in the music room, and pretend I'm a pro for a little while! LOL Agree with you 100%. This is a killer track!

Its just a basic 12 bar blues in A minor. Just play around in a pentatonic for a bit and you'll make some progress. When you get confortable with that you can look at adding the 6th and playing in dorian to really give it some flavor.

Thx. I appreciate you writing these kind words. As a guitarist that uses Backing tracks as a real tool for developmant and also for pure fun, I try to give that sense of dynamics in each track I write and produce. Everything everybody else has said is true and for the first time i sound like i can actually play and i only know half a dozen pentatoic licks and 3 scale shapes. i was almost giving from lack of progress but this has given the breakthrough i needed to carry on, thank you so much.

Here's a little tip to expand your chops. Start with a note in the scale, slide on up , same string to the next note that sounds like it fits. Might be one fret, might be 3 frets up. But always look around the neck for a new starting point. Cause now from that new spot you found, run the scale from that position in the scale. It will be liberating in that "stuck in one area" tar pit of advancement. Every string has a A or a note in that scale. Let your ear hear it as you slide up or down at your own pace. Listening for that sweet note that fits.

I just picked up 2 new marine band blues harps, A & D. This was a great way to break in the D harp. I did fill in stuff first, then the next time I played it I did some lead and some follow along with the guitar. Thanks a lot for this fine work

All of the previous comments are spot on....you get lost in this track while jamming along with it! Nice work and thanks!

Great practice for chasing the chords. You know......Am pentatonic scale over the Am chord, Dm minor penta over the Dm chord, etc.

I rocked the hell out of that!!!! There were some licks and a more than a few riffs....I swear I played every note and put so much funk on each one that they'd just slide on into your ears like "Oh Baby" Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. Nice
