You can never please people no matter what you do. With 2nd album identical to first they would moan about lack of creativity. Problem is that people stick too much to familiar sounds and refuse to accept any changes, new elements etc.
Sounds so good, I can't understand all this dumb people who rage about the deeper soul sound of Blues Pills, you never really listen to Aretha, Janis or Etta. I think there is no reason to be ashamed to have a similar soul sound like Adele, both women sing with their heart. Elin has one of the best voices in the Rock music genre at the moment, why is it forbidden to write a song which is only concentrated on her voice?! And the great thing is ... she improved her head/falsetto voice. But yeah this is no song to smoke a blunt or drink a couple of beer. Damn it's mainstream!
This is the problem, she is too "good" for the radios and tvs, and for mainstream people too, and so she will(?) fade away the others in the band (who are great too) So the raw heavy psych rock music, we loved, goes away, and we get commercial radio-friend shit :S Which is.. we can say, better than most of the others in the media, but... is it better then the original BAND? I don't think so. (sorry for my bad english)
yep, the pseudo music erudites. they know shit about music xD those people are the cancer of the fandoms. blue pills are experiencing new ways of creativity, something everyone should do, specially musicians, just like the beatles :D
It wasn't my main idea?!?!?! But read what you want. I think all this "critics" aren't open minded enough for something new. I watch this band since the release of the first EP in 2012 or 2013 long before they were signed on Nuclear Blast. The band made such a good progression. If you listen to the first Bliss EP and then the new album ... there is a big diffrence. But they stayed on the roots, but the songwriting is much better and more creative. I don't know if you listen to the album?! This song is only a part of it. All this little accents on the instrumental parts, and Elins voice. I can't believe that she could increased her voice to the last album, but the chorus of "Burned Out" or the "I felt a change" is so beautiful. The only "mainstream" thing is that they used a good studio, to have a better sound. But they worked together with the same producer of the first album. The instrumental parts could be also recorded in the 70s, and that's the thing, I think you never really listen to Aretha Franklin, Etta James, The Beatles or Ray Charles ... the instrumental parts of such slow songs in the 60s or 70s were similar to this song. I'm a fan of Adele, too. And I know they used instruments like organs and a Mellotrom on their albums 19 or 21. I'm a fan and a lover of music not of an attitude! Sorry my English is a wreck!
evryone whines about r&b songs done by "solely blues band". i had two band members that think the same way and limited their cretivity to their ego. i think its better than to be static, to try new things you havent done before instead of doing the same shit over and over again. what a way to contribute to the music and art. keep it up guys. people said the same about led zep and aerosmith when they expanded their music. lovely
Fantastic song , loved it on the album , great to see the band mature on this album. There only getting better and to the haters if you like this band you'd understand what there writing as it's up there with of the great rock, soul bands .
In this song, I feel my time too ... I'm stronger than everything that lives off of me! Beautiful ... Elin, the female nature is like that, music, movement, inspiration and courage to "rip" and let everything "has no value". This is for a few ... Let the fire burn... Kiss baby!!!
Bit of a rant here, but I'm so bored of seeing people rag on Blues Pills because they're exploring new ways to express themselves. Let's get one thing straight right: it's not pop. It's soul. Something this album is absolutely drenched in, which is absolutely no bad thing, especially if you're aware of the influences this band has, then you'd understand why they sound just like Arethra Franklin here. Oh and another thing: no, this isn't the fucking Elin show, jesus christ. The main songwriter in Blues Pills to this day, is still their founder: Zack Anderson, the bass player. Elin may have wrote this song, but the rest of the album was predominantly Zack, so there goes your "OH THE REST OF THE BAND ARE BEING TREATED SO POORLY I CAN'T BELIEVE A VOCALIST IS PUSHING THEMSELVES TO CENTRE STAGE".... just.... fuck off. And finally, the guitars. I'm a guitarist myself, and there *is* guitar work on the album, so stop going on about how there's no guitars at all. Yes, it might be *heavily* understated, but it's there, and understated work is no bad thing. Plus listen to the bass work and the drum work on this album and you'll see this is a band really firing on all cylinders and not just "Elin with some random blokes in the background" as some of you seem to think. The fact that I've seen certain so-called"fans" ("fans" my fucking ass) say they're no longer into Blues Pills, having not seen the new material in a live atmosphere or given the new album time to sink in (it's only been out a week as of right now) it's genuinely disheartening, for a band that truly deserve big things for pushing themselves and not just pumping out "Blues Pills 2: Electric Boogaloo" with the exact same sound as the last album
That's exactly what struck me, Elin is always going to be a focal point but this album brings the rhythm section to the fore, it's really funked up. The retro blues rock genre is getting over crowded so a shift towards a funkadelic sound gives them a really strong and less limited repertoire.
This is a song with a very good melody. Do you know what is a melody? It is something rock and metal bands forgot after the early 90's. What do we do when the riffs come back to rock and metal? Rock and metal nowadays is just guitar solos and some special effects. And you wonder why metal/rock doesn't sell so good anymore.
Aretha who?We are talking about Elin larson here!Nl one comes close! She is the best female singer on the planet right now and the most beutiful womam i ever seen!Call me Elin we are "neighbours"!I love you!!
yea, they shouldnt try to let their careers succeed. what a bunch of assholes. musicians are better when they cant make a living out the music and do the same songs over an over again right?
Ace D. is a satirical answer ? bands must evolves i don't want a song ever the same but either a clownesque one commercial and ridicoulus because i love this band much
Kataritenabela sciscix thats the thing, if you love them enough, better yet, if you love music as a whole, not just one genre, one "world that isolates your mind. you'll know that this is part of the creative process of every musician. could be just for money, yes. but if a musician doesnt try new things and evolve, they are not better than the ones that keep playing the same thing over and over again to satify a certain kind of public, might aswell be just for money. if they keep bringing something fresh, then they are in a good path, unless they stuck with just this forever. anyway its like R&B, its good for me. aerosmith and led zeppelin suffered the same criticism and look at them. this is the black music we want
I really feel like most people havent heard lady in gold fully... like some people are saying this album should be a solo one for Elin, which is total bs. There are a lot of songs on here that feature every bandmember well enough but no people always base their opinion on only one song...
Yeah and where is the cowbell. I totally agree every song MUST have drum and bass, or they shouldn't be allowed to be recorded, oh thats right, and cowbell
Sorry to say but for me the album is the biggest disappointment in years. They made a solo album for Elin and the guys were demoted into background musicians. Now you can start calling me idiot or whatever you want for having an opinion.
+Tero Rantaruikka No one will call you an idiot for having an opinion, because you expressed it in intelligent and courteous manner, instead of saying dumb shit like 'This album had a nerve to be different than the first one! They sold out! It's sounds like Adele and not like true Swedish black metal! How dare they?!?!111oneone'
Not gonna call you an idiot. Did you even listen to the whole album ? Rest of the band is still there and play their part. It's better to record something different for a change rather than release another 10 songs that sounds exactly like their debut and people would moan they copycat themselves. Anyway, it's impossible to please everyone.
I just checked on this band again after about 2 years, when i saw them at Burg Herzberg, what happened? I don´t like this at all, while i FUCKING LOVED the first album, even bought it for 2 other people...... but fuck this shit
OK OK ok. yes it's different than what they have previously released. I bought the album and have listened to it several times. so am I allowed to have a opinion then ? I think so, so here it is. I believe this new record should have been a solo record. It seems to be heavily Elin orientated, where as the previously released material seemed to feature all of the band, this record just seems to feature Elin. I don't think the songs on the record are bad, they are just not what I expected from a band where each member had their own style coming through. this new style of their art, is something that I would never buy knowing what I was buying. I don't hate Adele's music, but I know the music she puts out , and I would never buy one of her records. Not because I hate her, just because it's not my bag. people are allowed to not like this. I don't like this, but I also feel they can make whatever music they want, just count me out of it.
I need to revise my former opinion of the album now that I have had more time to listen to it. I'll make it short and simple. I do like the record, but feel the solo's are a definite miss on it.
A great song too but if you are saying they are similar I must I disagree. Sometimes I wish "Changes" would have been released a single during 70's. It was released as a duet of Ozzy & Kelly Osbourne - number one single.
+fourth Demon I dont know who youve been listening to but Adele is a great singer. Elin is a great singer. This song sounding like Adele is not a bad thing...
I love delicate music and warm vibes. Great fan of David Gilmour. But It is clear to me, this band is forced to change their style, to tame their emotions. Beautiful and natural lady who used to perform bare foot , on the carpet, with loose hair, with no or very little make up wouldn`t do what we can see on the clip with her initiative. I wouldn`t think so. Fucking recording companies , radiostations, trying to turn all musicians to their puppets. I hate that. I tell yes why it`s happening. Because musicians are dangerous. Dangerous to robbing states. Good lyrics are mind openers. Hopefully this band will stay themselves on stage and will sneak into the mainstream as well :)
Came here for some kick-ass rockmusic, got some very boring radiomusic.... don't get me wrong, slow songs can be good but i'm missing the guitars in this one very much
I'm not demanding, just giving my opinion on the song, I guess that's the purpose of the commentsection. And btw I am playing instrumets but thanks for the counsel ;-)
my opinion is that you are biased by concepts such as "sell out". :-) why does an artist has to remain doing the same thing you heard just for you instead bringing somethin new to the tabble? bands that cant fulfill more than one role in the genres arent much of true musicians. in fact, the reason why people would keep playing the same songs are to sell, for people like you to throw their money, because they know you'll do it for the hackneyed concept you stuck with. to be this stuck is bad for musicians artistically.
I pressed like and will probably purchase the album, but damn their music has been stripped off from everything that made them stood out on the first record. Now I'll be the first in line to defend bands who experiment with their sound, but experimentation is the one thing I don't see or hear here. There's a lot of attitude and volume missing, feels like another band.
Yes Elin, me too. I also felt a change and guess what? I didn't like it. Dead band. Not worthy of my record collection. Anyone interested? Used like new copies of "Devil Man", "Blues Pills", "Blues Pills Live" and "Lady in Gold" for sale. So sad.
