I used to see Jim Gordon (drums) nearly every day at California Medical Facility in Vacaville. Except for his height, you wouldn't know it was him. I never spoke with him, but I made sure that the nurses and doctors were aware of who he used to be and the impact he had on so many other drummers.
Beau, Your dad is a great musician ! He was a Very Big part of Derek and the Dominos ! I seen him & Coco at B B Kinks in NY not long ago. Great story teller.
Beau; Clapton has never been bad, but imo, his zenith was with the Dominos - he had the best bassist, the best drummer and his best writing partner and side man - your Dad.
Well Carl has been dead almost 40 yrs. and Jim Gordon has been in jail for many years for murdering his own mother... So they aren't rocking on much any more....
That drummer Jim Gordon, is the GOD of drums - Listen to how seamlessly he shifts from a half-time feel on the verse and then for the chorus he doubles up to normal - ALL WITHOUT MISSING ONE SINGLE BEAT INCLUDING ALL THE ROLLS/FILL INS - unbelievable time and feel. I've never heard ANY rock drummer with the time and pocket of Jim Gordon - none of them...
I can't even imagine what it would have been like to walk out after that show was over. It would be like coming down from Mt. Everest - what could possibly ever beat it...
I saw the Dominos in 70 and Clapton was the weakest of the bunch.... I think and pretty sure he was dope sick. he was still great but the other 3 were ROARING! When Gordon left and Clapton started using jamie Oldaker on his solo Lp's there was no comparrison and Oldaker was a fine drummer but not even close to Gordon
Jim, Bobby, and Carl were all road and studio test professionals. All carried their own weight and added to what was already there. Jim's story, unfortunately, does not have the happy ending. Sad. In the day though, he was tops.
Jim Gordon was THE drummer of the 1970s . He played with everyone . Clapton , Harrison , Jack Bruce , Harry Nilson , Steve Winwood . Clay, I say the same thing ! I seen Derek & the Dominos 2 times, At the Fillmore East & The Capitol Theater. There was so many great bands in the late 60's & early 70's !
I've never heard this particular version before....guess someone had the master from the whole show and finally decided to cut it loose. As has been pointed out here already, Jim Gordon's playing was peerless back then...his verse/chorus transitions are totally seamless, swinging like a hoss all the way...everyone in the band was at the top of their game and yes, Eric's playing is arguably the best I've heard for the era...great phrasing, never running out of ideas and all played straight into your basic Twin Reverb supplied by the Ryman...no effects, just guitar-cable-amp all you gearheads! This is truly a gem of a recording, and thank you x10 to visionman18 for posting and/or to whoever supplied you with it.
I bet the Producer's wish they had left the cameras rolling for this song and Got to Get Better in a Little While. Insane that this is the only video of this Band.

Duane only played two live shows with them. Tampa December 1 followed up the next night in Syracuse NY. A friend of mine went to that Syracuse show and said they played till after midnight! I couldn’t go. I was only ten at the time.
I guarantee you that somewhere this is on video. Someone has it and it will probably never see the light of day. It’s a shame too. Johnny Cash was the real deal. Him, Clapton, and Perkins sharing the stage. That probably was a fun night night for all
