He became the biggest heel in the company, main evented Wrestlemania, and had many great matches. I thought this was a great run for him, its just not what they were expecting.
@@baseupp12 In terms of crowd reaction, he was getting the biggest boos. I know Dave Batista was disappointed, but there should be no shamed in getting a large negative reaction. Any reaction is wrestling is a good reaction.
If I remember correctly, Batista actually offered to have Disney work with WWE for some Guardians of the Galaxy promotion, which would have netted WWE some extra cash in return for promoting the film a ton. However, Triple H & Stephanie supposedly thought that it wasn't worth it, since the comic & characters were nowhere near mainstream back in 2014, so they turned down the offer, apparently even joking that Dave was just a part of some no name movie that no one was going to watch, similar to most of his other movies prior. At the very least, Batista got the last laugh in that situation, and WWE lost out on a ton of Disney money.
I LOVE those videos about more "modern" wrestling events. I am a huge fan of the Reliving the War series, too. Having videos like this one is like a treat you get yourself while shopping every now and then lmao
@@imcashout7079 so if he started doing videos of wrestling in the 60s would the attitude era all of a sudden be modern? No. I am relaxed, don't respond for other people and if for some reason this triggered you that's not the correct response for when someone gets corrected.
I'm glad he came back to fight HHH his last run. Great way to end his career. The whole "give me what I want" shtick was hilarious. Forever in my brain.
He 100% did. He came back in horrible ring shape and just sucked in almost ever aspect. Him coming into the company as a heel still would’ve gotten him legit hate for winning the rumble.
@@whyequalswhat it’s not batista’s fault how he was booked during his return. Dude is a legend who brought tons of us joy during our lives. you cant expect a guy to be in same shape he was 10 years before. dude was still jacked at wrestlemania 30. He didn’t deserve the boo’s. But he didn’t need to win the rumble
I watched the 2014 Royal Rumble having hardly watched any WWE for years and I've never heard anything like that crowd reaction for Daniel Bryan, and when Mysterio entered at #30 people in the arena were furious, it was crazy.
I'm probably one of the very few people who actually liked this Batista. Unfortunately, it was a middle of Daniel Bryan's run and because CM Punk left, the smarks was not having it that year. I always adopt Batista's motto to the smarks: "Deal With It."
I always liked batista and was pumped when he came back. I was never a fan of daniel bryan so was disappointed when batista was pushed the the side for him
Because they fans were all hyped about Daniel Bryan they were annoying and disrespectful they should have known better to show respect to the legends who came before Daniel Bryan
my favorite was when came out mock crying and mock posing when he was walking on the steps and doing daniel''s heel "no" in a mockery to get more heel heat @9:28 lmao
I understand that Daniel Bryan was super over at this point but how do you boo a huge former champion during the ruthless aggression era, especially one with the caliber of Batista
i will always be on the other, the non daniel bryan side. i never understood why this lil dude is so over. it just shows how awkward wrestling fans have become and what they wanna see... that whole "yes yes yes" bs is cringe af and daniel is an okey-ish wrestler, nothing more. he is a nice dude, no question about that, but ppl who cheer week in week out for such a guy should go back to kindergarten. even rey rey as world champ back in the day was slightly more believable than bryan doing anything in that direction, yet of course rey giving the belt was also cringe af. for over 10 yrs now, wrestling fans forgot what is important in wrestling - also the companies did.
It should have been Batista Vs Brock. And cena vs undertaker streak. Triple threat cm punk Daniel Bryan and Randy. Punk gets his main event bryan wins.
He's one of the best wrestlers turned actors so he should stick with acting. While The Rock is a bigger movie star I think Batista is a far more skilled actor.
I was happy to see him back at the time. It was just most of the internet fans taking all their anger at WWE out on him. With better booking, that should have been avoided but WWE creative has been on a big downward spiral ever since they beat WCW. Batista winning the 2014 rumble was a mistake. Bryan should have won amd then still have the triple threat at mania or had Batista vs HHH as a semi-main event match. At least we got those endless memes (did you say "boo" or "bootista?") and "Deal with it" catchphrase. Also, at the time there was no guarantee that guardians of the galaxy was going to be a hit. I'm glad it was and Batista was excellent as Drax, especially in the sequel.

WrestleMania 35 3. 2021 WWE Hall of Famer
This was the last time Vince fully listened to fans. He could’ve had the world title on batista while he was promoting his new movie instead he put on a indie darling that got injured.
Who cares about the Internet marks, not likening evolution, evolution is great, hhh reign of terror is such a myth, hhh has put so many guys over 🙄 ffs he made batista, randy Orton seth rollins, road dogg, xpac, billy gunn, china, and all the talent in wwe today, now look at these marks today in aew, the same Internet fans who love aew right!!!! The king of kings on his wwe throne, actually still continuing to9 create stars 🌟 ❤😂😂
1:49 Being WWE Champion is great, but even Triple H knows the BIG Gold Belt is the prettiest championship ever made.. Look how HHH is eyeing the strap lol
Batista's run was shat on due to no fault of his own hell I'd argue WWE's idea to bring him back as a face was fine...until they booked him to outright win the Rumble after returning just a week prior. He seemed out of place inserted in the main event scene suddenly and aburptly and it felt like an act of hostility against the crowd for wanting Daniel Bryan which is why the reaction was so visceral.
5:41 I’m reminded yet again why this version of Batista truly sucked. Legends like the rock, cena or Jericho could leave for a year or two, comeback and blow the roof off the arena but somehow Batista just didn’t do that for me anymore.
Rightfully so, WWE had a long history of ignoring the fans and here's a white hot daniel bryan about to create gold and we knew WWE was gonna stomp that fire out because he got over without their permission. People didn't hate batista, we hated what WWE was doing.
@@Death-999 exactly as many people said at the time imagine if Hogan would have returned to WWF in 1997 and would have taken the spotlight from Stone Cold which was the hottest guy in the company.People would have turned against Hogan big time
Wrestling Bios is my anxiety relief. Any time I am feeling overwhelmed and see a new video I know I can just chill for a bit and watch the greatest youtube wrestling historian.
I always felt sorry for Batista during this period. Especially after seeing the Rumble backstage documentary and seeing how hard he worked to even get out there, only to be booed. He seems like a genuinely sensitive guy. It wasn’t his fault how he was booked.
I really enjoyed the reformation of Evolution and the feud with The Shield. Batista helped to create new stars. He is a great guy and deserves so much better. Thankfully he had a fulfilling finish of his last run in 2019.
Ya I definitely agree, I don’t know what he means it wasn’t a success. It was very entertaining. We all cared, everyone was talking about it and the matches was a banger. What other factions done this over the years? Really think about it. Most of the time it’s a one day ruin. Evolution came back had a short run and put over the future.
I disagree the Evolution return wasbt great. It was. It was bringing them back for one big feud to put over a crop of new talent who had nobody left to fight as a faction, and considering all three Shield guys became world champions, I think it was a tremendous success, especially for a program that was in between WrestleMania and SummerSlam in those middle months
I lost my mind when Evolution came back. But when RF turned his back on em, I thought to myself, that runs over. So disappointed that a guy (RF), who spent the majority of his time putting wrestlers over, turned his back on the greatest faction to ever strap on the boots.
Loved every moment of the feud. When Shield have beaten Evolution with 3-0 it was a huge push. What a night, this match is very memorable in my opinion.
I stopped watching wrestling back in 2006, but I did tune in for Wrestlemania 30. I was completely blown away by the fan support for Daniel Bryan in the opening match. I vaguely remembered him as an Indy wrestler from the short-lived Wrestling Channel here in the U.K. but it was clear he was a megastar. Even without context Batista and Orton felt like bit-players in the main event. It’s interesting to see how Bryan’s rise was organic considering Batista’s rise to the top was fairly organic too. I felt at the time that Evolution was intended to elevate Orton first and foremost with Batista given the less glamorous enforcer / tag partner position within the group. After the botched Orton face turn Batista was given more screen time and his charisma really started to become apparent, and that led to his Wrestlemania 21 main event position as fans genuinely seemed to like him. I think it just proves that wrestling fans love a wrestler. As soon as they start showing ‘bigger’ aspirations like Hollywood or the NFL then that love just disappears.
Heck I'd say that Daniel Bryan was even more than just Organic. It was something that clawed its way up. Like someone in booking/creative did everything they could to keep him down on the mid card/lower mid card and the fans really rallied behind him to ensure he moved up, while Booking/Creative tried to do everything they could to make it look like he wasn't ready/worthy of it with minimal fan appeasement. Until eventually they just couldn't deny it anymore. That's my memory of it at the time at least.
He came back at the time that the WWE was intent on ignoring the WWE universe wanting Daniel Bryant as champ and it was just unfortunate. The WWE dropped the ball on this one. The fans were going to boo anybody who won that royal whose name was not Daniel Bryant. It wasn’t Batistas fault.
I think if Punk won it couldve been salvaged somewhat, (assuming he decided to stick around afterward) since he was the clear second favorite at the time.
Daniel Brayan wasn’t even that good Batista was right he doesn’t look like a hero it a bit harsh Batista will always be better than Brayan but Brayan in the attitude era and he will be treated like a cruiseweight
Batista was in a very difficult situation, they first shouldn't have even teased his return... It should've been a surprise at the rumble that no one saw coming. Then they brought him in to WIN the Royal rumble and main event wrestlemania after The Rock had headlined the last two. People already had an issue with part timers... Then they reunited evolution but had them battle against a white hot shield that couldn't afford a loss... Essentially he came back and took nothing but Ls. It's a very tough spot
I always thought the same thing Batista should've been a surprise entrance and winner of the rumble his RAW return was super underwhelming from what I remember. He had horrible promo coming back in and even more ridiculous outfit, the skinny jeans and weird looking sweat jacket. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
@@SteelSpurs Because the marks ruin everything good. They want soft soyboys as champion and wonder why they don't draw. Every wrestler does the same thing now and looks the same wrestling is dead. No good characters, no good stories it's all because of the fans.
Pushing Bryan over Batista in WMXXX was the biggest mistake of the modern era. To this day fans havent quit whining trying to force the company to push boring indy guys.
Bluetista was fantastic and it's part of what enabled Dave to open up about his feelings about wrestling and his position and where the industry was going. Bluetista was done on purpose, he's a heel, so he wore something that stuck out. It's classic heel stuff and it was awesome.
Flair really needed to be a part of Evolution's reformation, he was comedy gold in their first run. Regardless, their return, and Batista's in general, were great launching pads for DB and the Shield. Batista's 2014 was a great success, just not for Dave's legacy lol
I still remember that Batista Bomb - RKO combination, especially when you see Orton's back hitting that monitor when he came down and bleeding from that very nasty landing.
@@slimypickle19 I think it was understandable that Vince made Cena the bigger star since Batista was the same age as HHH and John Cena was 8 years younger than Batista. Don't forget that Batista got injured at the beginning of 2006 which made Vince put all his faith in John Cena.
He just looked weird. His face just off to me. The worst thing to happen during this run was WWE catering to the marks and having Bryan being champ. Because look how that turned out, fans became more and more insufferable and more interested in making sure their favorites got pushed instead of actually enjoying the show.
@wrestlingbios your upload schedule is amazing. considering the quality going into every video along with the time to go back and rewatrch all this content its shows just how much dedication and and work you have put into this channel. ive watched since the very first video and have never missed a single upload. thanks for all the hardwork the dedication is really inspiring its been awesome to see the channel grow!
My Favorite part of Batista's 2014 run was hearing Saliva's I walk alone again that song is awesome and Batista's blue attire is Absolutely Hilarious 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Never cared for the band personally. I’m a rocker n all. They just seemed too soft for me. But somehow Batista made that song so much better to me with his entrance
The main issue with Bluetista was that the elbow pads and the shorts being different hues. I think it wouldn't have been anywhere that big a deal without this clash in itself as he would have still stood out, but not in such an egregious way.
Are people really that soft now days they cry and boycott WWE when someone they anticipated winning the Rumble does not win? I remember as a little kid at the Rumble '92 wanting SID to win. Hogan f*cked it all up leading to Flair winning. I was pissed off at the time but I was over it by the next night before Prime Time on USA.
Imagine if in 1998 instead of having Steve Austin win the rumble like literally everyone in the WWE audience wanted, they had say Jim Duggan come back or something to win instead. There would've been riots. Having a company piss on what you vocally support for something nobody was asking for is enough to validate such a response.
@@denniswilliams6519 Yeah... yeah there probably would have been riots. Great comparison too, Batista and Hacksaw Jim Duggan. I get what you're trying to say. The most unrealistic scenario ever killing Austin's push by bringing in a star from the 80's to win the '98 Rumble. Yeah that has to suck for the fans who were hoping for a Daniel Bryan push. All the reason to throw temper tantrums on Twitter. It's a scripted show. Get over yourselves. It would be comparable to boycotting a TV series because the season didn't conclude the way the fans thought it should have. Everyone now seems to have the emotional level of a child.
@@butchvito Unrealistic? We just had Bob Backlund be WWF Champion in 1994. I'm merely pointing out that Austin was white hot at the time (Like Daniel Bryan in 2013/14) and having a nostalgia act come in instead to win in spite of what the fans wanted would elicit that reaction. You seem to be the type who will accept anything thrown in your face and just take it no matter how unpleasing it is. Basically who cares what the fans think even if fans are supposed to be part of a wrestling show. Playing up to the crowd is literally wrestling 101.
Really pissed me off that batista didn't become world champion again it's all daniel byran's fault along with horrible fans that made wwe change their mind
