BLUETTI EB70 (gray/red) bit.ly/2Rgg70U (mint green) bit.ly/3bauZ8b use code HOBO70 for discount! FOR THOSE THAT KEEP SAYING RUN 2X100w panels in parallel: The input is limited to 8A. That means if you run two 100w panels in parallel you're throwing away nearly half the power. So you can do this but just be aware you won't hit the charge limit this way! COMPARE TO RIVER PRO: River Pro is $180 more (EB70 is $499 with my code), EB70 has 4x the battery life, EB70 has a larger inverter (700w vs 600w -- their fake 1800w trick to lower voltage can destroy appliances). River does charge a lot faster but that affects battery life. Modular battery is pointless as you can't replace the internal battery when it dies. The River has a better screen, the EB70 has better PD charging. They both support 200w solar.

It;s odd that this only has an 8 amp ceiling, the manual states you can get a full 200 watt charge from a Bluetti panel which is rated at ten watts, which is what all the other Bluetti's are. You think that is going to change? Comparing Ecoflow, I think these products are designed for different applications. Obviously if you are discharging this all the time the cycles are important. But if you're not off grid and are looking for some emergency type back up that you can easily expand capacity the ecoflow has a lot of utility. They do not recommend using that boost for anything over 1200 watts, but it can take a surge of 1800 watts. So it can use a power tool, a microwave or coffee maker if necessary. It doesn't work on induction appliances. The River 600 is only 300 dollars and is eleven pounds and can function as a real ups - you can turn the a/c on and you can plug in and run off grid power without discharging your battery. the inverter only kicks in when the grid power is interrupted. Lots of people are looking for that function now in a power station. It costs about 250 dollars to get a 60 lb lead acid battery that keeps your desktop on for four minutes. That line of ecoflow is more for the occasional emergency or get up and go outing where you might need to use a compressor or power tool once in a while and it charges very fast by auto d/c too. It's not for day in and day out use off grid though. But I think they have a definite market. For me it's a huge plus to have a real ups function. And the situations I find myself in the fast charging is a plus. I know Bluetti can charge and recharge simultaneously but they recommend not using it as a ups as it will affect battery life. I think the eb70 though was rushed to market and there will be another version. Definitely this 6-700 watt range is a good idea, as it's a big jump from 300 watts to 1000 watts in weight and cost.
@HOBOTECH
@HOBOTECH 3 года назад
@@JustVinnyBlues The EcoFlow "boost" drops voltage into the dirt. There are some appliances it would totally destroy by doing that (induction stoves, microwaves, anything with a motor, etc). The River I tested did NOT have a UPS relay in it. It does "pass through charging" which is what the EP70 does too. Be wary of their claims and limitations.
@JustVinnyBlues
@JustVinnyBlues 3 года назад
@@HOBOTECH I saw your review. I think that was the kickstarter version though, and there were actually a lot of changes between that and the production version; even in the configuration and names. I would never impugne your tech guruness and anger the tech Gods that protect you, but more recent reviews are more favorable. For one thing, it definitely has an entry level UPS function (meaning it will work on stuff in your home but probably not on a google server), and that is a grid-a/c pass through. You plug it in, you turn on the A/c outlet, the inverter does not turn on until there is an interruption in the current. This is a stated feature in their manual and specs and I have seen this demo'd on some big desktop systems. The boost I have also seen do some impressive things with power tools (by a tool guy, not an off grid guy) and it will run most appliances: coffee makers, hot plates, inverter microwaves. It won't run "smart" appliances that require a constant voltage. The overheating can be caused if you are running something that has an exhaust or cooling fan, because the heat will go up and the fan motor will slow down. But they don't recommend using the boost continuously or on appliances over 1000 or 1200 watts. The Ecoflow is really targeting a broader based consumer market than an off grid application. I've seen them sold on home shopping networks. I am interested myself in the River 600 for $300 to use as a ups and basic emergency charging. In an emergency, that fast charging is an asset. You can sit in a truck stop and charge that thing sitting under the table while you eat lunch. I saw this tool guy power a big compressor to full 150 lbs which can inflate a tire while it's on a vehicle; and run a 15 amp chop saw, refrigerator, freezers. Nothing you would do, of course. Nor is a ups of any use off grid either. But this technology is working its way into a lot of non off grid activies. So I understand why Ecoflow is selling these. I would like the eb70 but not this version. I'll wait.

@@HOBOTECH The seller recommends the user not use pass through charging with the Bluetti EB70. Can you explain just how harmful this is, and if I keep the watts going in lower, say just using a 100 watt panel, is it safer on the battery?

We had a two day power outage a few months ago. I was so grateful my 2400 watt Bluetti was here. It kept my side by side fridge running flawlessly. My Jackery's kept my 8 year old grandson happy. FYI, in case it's helpful to anyone: I found that an EB70s starting at 100% charge can run a CPAP at 11.5 lb pressure, plus a 12-inch table fan on low speed, for slightly over 8 hours. The fan was started a few minutes before the CPAP, and the CPAP ran for 8 hrs 1 min before the EB70s ran out of juice. So the EB70s can get you through a warm night with a CPAP.

I appreciate that you spell out the necessary info for us to make our own calculations to fit our own personal needs, but it would be fantastic to see other ideas on how they can be of benefit in various situations. Things we haven't thought of... For example camping uses, day use, work truck, mobile office, power outages, remote cabin, etc... or... is it worth it to spend $$ on a SG to power tools, or is it better to stick with cordless tools? perhaps both? use the SG to charge the power tools batteries? I'm sure there are many very creative uses out there. Thanks for the great vids!

I have a suggestion for a compromise between the people who want longer videos like myself, and the ones who want shorter videos. I think the main reason why certain people want shorter videos is because they want to get to key information quicker without having to watch a long video to get to it. So maybe posting specific time stamps (both at the beginning of the video and in your description and comments section) where you are discussing certain aspects. At the beginning of each timestamp you give a short 30 second or 1 minute summary and then the following minutes after that can be going into depth of what you just said. Then on to the next subject/time stamp. What do you think? Honestly I kind of wish all channels would do this. I've seen a few not related channels that do and the viewers, including myself, appreciate it.

Great review as always. I'm surprised you merely glazed over the fact that the display screen only shows the 5 bar indicator for the level of charge, I would expect you to list in your features that you don't like that it does not show you the actual percentage of battery left, leaving one guessing how much power they have left. If it weren't for this small, but important detail, I would be sold on this unit. Not only do I not want to be surprised when I run out of power (there is a big difference between 1%-20%), but I also want to be able to monitor how much juice my appliances are using in real time, or how quickly it is charging up in real time. Bluetti is such a great product and it would be so easy for them to add that to the display.

It’s common in the solar industry that we design systems with a 1.2 to 1.4 DC/AC ratio. In this case the inverter just caps the power. Does this hold true for the dc/dc ratio and charge controllers? The idea is this flattens the peak portion of the production curve. I want to put a 240W model on the Bluetti and maximize the window at which it’s at full power input. BTW, I think you should be able to use two 100w modules in parallel with a Y-connector.

With a 200 Watt panel, it works nicely for sustained power needs in my media closet. Overnight it didn't go lower than one power bar. Set it and forget it.

FYI - I use a Dell 130 or 240Watt charger to charge my EB70 and it does so just fine, silently. The 240 charges it at 200 Watts. No idea if this an approved method but it works great. and is much smaller and probably cheaper to buy. (Mine is for my Alienware laptop.)

I have the small Beaudens power station. lithium iron phosphate. I love it. I use it for my phones and chromebook and lights. I charge it in 3-4 hours at McDonald's every 6 or 7th day. But now i finally got a solar panel to charge it. Also just got a new jackery 300. Barely use it. Waiting for my max air fan. I'll use it for that.

How does that work. Are you being sneaky or is the manager cool about it? I know some places like McCallisters are good about having refillable drinks and power at each table but I don't recall McDonalds having any customer facing outlets.

LIFEPO4 FOR THE WIN! Why would anyone run lithium-ion when you can get lithium iron phosphate? Can't wait to see this review.
@SetitesTechAdventures
@SetitesTechAdventures 3 года назад
Energy density. A quick search shows that Li-Ion has a specific energy of 150 to 200 watt hours per kilogram. LiFePo4 has a specific energy of 90 to 120 watt hours per kilogram. Of course that higher power is part of why it has less cycles and is more likely to go boom so it has disadvantages. These devices could be a lot smaller but they'd be less robust/safe.

The two cons pointed out in this review are spot on. The fan noise on the charger is annoying but I can live with it. It sounds like an electric space heater. The indicator LEDs being hard to see, on the other hand, is a problem! On a camping trip it’s not much of an issue, but at home I use it as battery backup for internet and maybe a light. Well twice now I forgot the DC channel on and after some time period (weeks) it drained itself. Very disappointing. I have Eco mode on but that only disables the AC inverter.

@@HOBOTECH For me, longer videos mean I don't have to keep going to my phone to pick another videos to put on while at work. Because of the PPE equipment, it can take me up to two minutes to pick up my phone. Also with longer videos, you feel like the content creators is ensuring the content is informative. I've seen so many reviewers of smartphones not cover everything because they strived for short videos. I had to stop watching a lot of Tech content creators because they cut out too much information just to have a short video.
