Blurred lines is a very appropiate title for the song, because the line is blurred between where Marvin Gaye stops, and Robin Thicke begins!

My father when he heard that song he liked it so much!! And he told me "This song reminds me of an old song! But I don't remember what song!" And one day he said "I think it was Marvin Gaye or someone else... I am not sure... But it really sounds like an old song that I used to hear back in the days" Then I watched on the news the lawsuit betweet Marvin Gaye family and Robin Thicke... I told my father that "you know that song you liked? They are being sued because they stole it from Marvin Gaye!" And My dad was like "See! That's why I liked the song! It sounded like an old song!" And We live in The Democratic Republic Of Congo... So if someone from the DRC recognised the song, I don't understand how they thought they could just release the song IN THE USA and enjoy without any concerns? with peace...? duh?

The similarities weren't that blurry after all. A Los Angeles jury found Tuesday that Robin Thicke and Pharrell Williams copied Marvin Gaye’s 1977 hit “Got to Give It Up” when they wrote and recorded their hit song “Blurred Lines.” He also copied "After the dance" from Marvin Gaye and called it "Love after War.' It is so blatant, Stevie Wonder could see it.

The point of why people get mad at songs like robin thicke copying the tempo is that they are lazy making music, meaning a song like this reminds you of a similar song that someone already produced.
@Ajchubgainer
@Ajchubgainer 7 лет назад
I don't think artists should be constrained to not even have a similar style song to someone who came before...all music is built upon what came before- people hearing something and modifying it and making it their own. If we copyright every little aspect of every song, nothing new can be created. That said, this mashup sounds excellent, especially the beginning.
@VGScreens
@VGScreens 2 года назад
Yeah, but you also shouldn''t jack some shit while bragging about it. The legal stuff is BS, but they knew 100%. They wanted to avoid the cover charge. It was a power play, and they thought legal could cover it. This happens a lot. Easier when the old artist is on the same label.
@MSILBB

This isn’t “inspiration” it’s theft. If Pharrell’s sellout ass and Thicke’s culture culture self would’ve just credited them it wouldn’t have been an issue. You also wouldn’t really be creating anything new if you continue to just steal from other people and copy every little thing without really truly deconstructing it and doing different things with it. Additionally all of this comes from a SPECIFIC CULTURE, Black American to be exact.

Robin Thicke and Pharrell sampled Marvin's song, it's more then just a drum beat, we are talking about the same drum beat, the same cow bell, the same bass line. The only differences that with Robin Thicke's version, its being played in a different key and there are a few rhythmic changes in the middle to try to throw you off, but just because you make a few changes doesn't make it and original song. I can't believe they sued Marvin's kids though. That took some huge balls.

I laugh at all the younger folks on here saying that Thicke and Pharrell didn't steal this song and that Gaye's family is greedy. I dare say that if thirty years from now, if someone stole some "artist" of today's music, that family would sue. Of course, that is not likely to happen as there has been little original since the dawn of rap and hip hop. It is an entire genre created on theft, using elementary profanity-laced poetry.

They were sued by Gaye over that song and now Gaye is credited as the ONLY songwriter on it (which is still dumb cause the melody was different). I suspect in that case they didnt stick to the rules with that sample and didnt credit Gaye. It all comes to down to greed at the end of the day...had they just gone public with Million Dollar Baby and then left it at that they would have had more people on their side. Now the majority of educated musicians (i.e not tone deaf tards) just thinks they're greedy scum

I don't see how people keep saying that Blurred Lines is copying Got to give it up. Even musicians and songwriters that are my favorites and I really respect say that believe it is. Yes its a melodic beat. That makes it a style. But the beat is different. And the tune is different. Cowbell can't be copyrighted. And speeding up Blurred Lines music video and playing with the other, is a disingenuous except to say that they or totally copying. Saying that they are copying is like saying is like saying every song has to have it's own particular style style. Boy mainstream radio today would really have a problem having. PHARELL WILLIAMS DID THE COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT!!! He knew it was Marvin Gaye's damn song. Then brought in T.I. & Robin Thicke with their vocals. I'm GLAD MARVIN GAYE CHILDREN WON THE LAWSUIT!!! Actually thst $7.4 Mill verdict isn't enough. HELL I wish they could collect ALL $17Mill from every CD sold since it was their Dad's music

Pharell and Thicke stole the song. They got caught...and now pay the penalty and the shame for copyright infringement. R.I.P. Marvin.

Hope can you not hear the differences? I don't get it. But then again the people who say it's the same thing also have no inner monolog, can't visualize an apple, etc.

Right, they raised the key of blurred lines to match. Because the songs are in different keys. Blurred lines is in a lower key than got to give it up

The "hey hey hey" is a signature element of Blurred Lines NOT present in the Gaye song. Nor several other elements such as the vocal harmonies and mixing. It's unbelievable that people think that the "owners" of a song made 40 years ago deserve millions of dollars royalties from a present day song that has a similar grove. Really sad for music and art.

LOL. I'm gonna take a Beatles song, sing "Hey Hey Hey" over it, and release it as a single. That's legitimate.

They never sampled it, they used a new sound to sound like it. Therefore they DID copy it. Jesus christ people.

They even left in the "WOOH!" people shout throughout the song. How tacky is Robin Thicke lol... and I also love how people said miley cyrus was defiling his purity on stage LOL!

Why is it so hard for people to recognize they sampled it and stole it...has to be mostly kids who are not familiar with the tune

so the argument: I invented this song therefore I now own this tune, this tempo, this concept basically forever.

Why did Robin Thicke think he could get away with stealing this song????? It's SO OBVIOUS it's insane. Same goes for scrawny butt Marley who thinks that she invented twerking.
