The amazing moment when you can see the light at the end of the tunnel of darkness and fear...The sound reminds me of Phaeleh's tracks.

There's so much to this. Accepting guilt is the main theme I get. The guy comes back to this cave expecting something to be here, I'd say tables, computers, all his work and research to better mankind - but his partner packed up everything and left. Let's say they were trying to end starvation for the lesser half of the world but to his partner he was usually frustrated and angry even over simple things, he was too determined to reach the goal though after each fight he'd feel so bad about it. When the partner finally leaves he realizes he won't be forgiven this time, enough was enough, this is one of the few times he doesn't react with aggression and takes responsibility for his actions. A really good thing ended because he couldn't control himself. You can flip the situation around, say they were doing a bad thing for humanity; they wanted to nuke the better half the world, his partner was all for it, and this guy was conflicted and realized killing people won't change things or make themselves happy. Seeing his lack of conviction his partner packed up everything to leave and the guy knows he went to a new secret base to continue building the nukes and maybe got a new partner who wouldn't question him. He has to understand that someday he'll see those nukes they were working on destroying the world and he had so much time to do something drastic to stop it but was too passive. Now he'll never get the chance. The guy in the picture could even be the partner in either scenario arriving at a new base (he's got all the things he packed, they're just off screen). In the good scenario the partner has the weight of trying to save all those people alone, without the genius of the guy who was unstable. Maybe if he could sustain a bit more abuse things could've ended up better for everyone. Bad scenario the partner realizes the guy has a point, maybe this won't make him feel the way he thinks it would, but he hurts so much and has to do something, even if it isn't fair for others. He knows he's the jerk in this situation but the world is full of jerks....
