This is why I always prefer my favourite independant 'shed' mechanic instead of some commercial garages. 10 minutes to figure out what a full crew garage couldn't do in days. Great job, love these videos.
Another drain hole blocked....ecu not water-tight...you did a great job with the pcb, cleaning and repairing it. I think Ronnie O'Sullivan said the same as you. Luis...He won the match early so he could pick the kids up from school! lol. Very well done!
Incredible how you are able to bring those ECU back from the dead 😁, just before I started watching this video I looked into a Corsa Crank no start where the pump in the tank runs for too long I hope it’s not the same issue 😬... cheers Luis 👍
I have exactly the same fault with a 2008 320d I’ve just bought, non runner. Pump running constantly, all sorts of error messages on the dash, crank but no start. No DME communication, was going to look at the ecu connection first but you’ve confirmed what I was thinking. Thank you.
You know that u are number 1 right? Thanks again for sharing your incredible work with us. From everything that I've seen from you until now my favourite is that mini cooper that came from another garage specialist for bmw and mini. This perhaps is from the same garage. Anyway Thanks for this 30 non blinking minutes 😁😁😁
Amazing repair and was great to watch, when you removed the DDE board I would have never imagined something like could be repaired. It's a shame the chap had to spend so much before it got to you though. I'm going to check my car soon to make sure my drain plugs are okay Haha.
Ahhh very interesting, I have exact faults, I had same original fault ‘locked steering’ and I have run same diagnostic with resetting and sync of modules but still no dde communication. I’m going to remove the ecu tomorrow and check for water. Let’s see!! I have a 320d E91 07. Amazing video and very informative, you certainly know your stuff.
@@LMAutoRepairs yes it was water Damage to the ecu. Exactly the same as your video!! I’m on the hunt for a used ecu. Now! One of the chips along the bottom has blown in half!!
Impressive diagnosis of board and repair. Not so confident about how long it will last though when car goes over bumps and gets smashed around. Not taking away from anything you have done as impressive but that DDE module should really be junked.
This is my theory... If he can't take anothe year out of that DDE, is a year he saves... This repair was done about 5/6 months ago... and still going...🤞 I might have been lucky... have repaired a few of water damaged ECUs... so far, so good... I know will be the day were one will not last a week... lol😋 Still, if I was not confident with the repair, I would advise 100% replace the module... Thank you for watching and for your comment, really appreciated! 👍👍👍
@@LMAutoRepairs No problem. Thank you for taking the time to do the video's. I understand it must be difficult and slow you down a bit so your efforts are appreciated.
Had 2005 with exactly same symptoms after customer tried to jump start after battery gone flat also had no comms with DME But didn’t had the chance to get to the bottom of it as customer decided to take car away and scrap it Anyway thank you for a nice video
@@LMAutoRepairs I’ve got a e90 325i that I believe has the same issue at first we thought it was the voltage regulator so I had a new alternator put in but the it won’t start. Cranked so I also got a new battery but it’s just won’t start. Scanned with snap on and was getting engine ecu fault code so it now stranded at the garage and I don’t want to keep paying for parts that isn’t fixing the problem. Where abouts are you based and how can I get in touch for the job if not can you help identify my options or recommend garage of ecu/ electronics specialist that will take on job or a solution
subscribed !! love your work ! you would think engineers would put these modules relays fuses in a different area in the car !! like wtf ! "ok guys lets get together i have a great idea for the dme location lets put it in the hood area where heat and water can make way into these sensitive electronics " great idea guys !! lets do it ! lmaooo that was a joke
Good save but I would not trust it in long term. PCB is damaged, pads around processor too, just a matter of time until its no starter again. Owner should source ECU, EWS and key while it runs.
This repair was done 5 or 6 months ago... still going... Still, should look for another ecu... not the whole set... after all, the ecu is the only problem...😉 Thank you for watching and for your comment!
Hi I don't have a clue... you have seen how much they charged to not even diagnose it... and I have not even charged that much to actually fix it! 😋 Thank you for watching and for your comment!
You need to charge more you have very special skills so you should charge like a lawyer or doctor. I doubt there would be many garages who could fix that for less than a 1000.
Where you located I think I have the same issue with my 1 series but I don’t have any dashboard lights at all seems like a electronic fault also my fuses seemed to be a big moist when I took a fuse out to check . Please could you let me know as I need this issue resolved as soon as possible
You sir, are very good at this. I’ve watched a few of your vids, even the other dme vid twice which was over an hr. I have been struggling with my e90 320i 2007. I was wondering if there is a schematic pcb diagram? Even with that I’m not sure I can fix my issue. Thanks for the great content! 👍
Unfortunately I work blind when repairing this type of stuff... I never managed to find internal schematics for modules like this... You need to try to trace it down... if is a multilayer pcb, then things complicate a bit, depending on what type of damage the ecu has... Thank you for watching and for your comment!
This is a high value lesson, I have a question Louis about how to locate the suitable component on the ECU, IS THERE A program we can use?, Thanks a lot 😊
Have you had an experience with an 2004 BMW 530i that wouldn't start after replacing the battery. When I put the key in the ignition I get the orange key symbol on dash (guessing to show that key is in ignition when door is open) and nothing after that. When I turn the key I don't get any lights at all on the dash and I can't even get the windows to roll up but the radio will turn on and the lights inside. Any suggestions of what to test?
I have had the same problem no communication with DDE so i had replaced the ECU with the same part number and programmed in but still same issue, car cranks wont start but no communication with DDE Can you shed any help!
So, the issue was not the ecu... as I always say, start with the basics, check power, grounds and communication lines first... Hope you get it sorted... Thank you for watching!
Hi pal just seen some of ur vids thats some in depth stuff you do! Wondering if you could help with my situation. I have a N57 E92 330d and I accidentally shorted out something by sticking a screwdriver on the starter motor. I touched the main starter wire to the ground and now i’m getting ‘no ecu detected’ when i plug in obd reader. Its got power and lights up and cranks over too but no start. I have tried the fuses but I think they’re ok. Would you know exactly what fuse it might be that i should check or have I blown the ecu? If so…where abouts are you based? Thanks
@@LMAutoRepairs got the rear power distribution box out now and checking that. The one in the glove box I used a circuit tester on every fuse to check and both terminals for each fuse lit up. Didnt do a visual check though as I thought that might have done it. Would it be possible to blow the ecu from the starter wire though as I would have thought it’ll blow a fuse first?
@@LMAutoRepairs yup the fuse module relay with 4 fuses in there checked them. Unplugged the relays in there and plugged them back in. Stuff stopped working and started working again when I did. Power seems to be getting through
Fogo Luís, onde é q aprendeste a reparar assim centralinas? Eu nunca na vida conseguia seguir esse circuito para ver onde tinha continuidade e onde não tinha. Tiveste q tirar todos os transistores para testar?
Oh man :( im anxious.. i have BMW e85 .. had little corrosion on one of two pins inside the socket of the airbag comunication module. But it wont comunicate still :/ IDK do you think its due coroded wire? or its not possible. Thank you sir, hope you read it.
* Please help me !!! * I currently have a 2008 bmw 1 series 120d E82 on 130k... Recently the car has been temperamental on start up when sometimes, after pressing the on/off button and the ignition coming on with the dash lights coming up... when pressing the button again to turn the engine on, the car just makes a "click" sound and wouldn't turn over... after a few trys pushing the on/off button, the engine would come on.... One day after driving the car, I turned the car off and got out as usual... when I got back in and inserted the key, there was nothing, nothing on the dash and no ignition lights at all.. like the car was completely dead or not recognising the key?.. But the keyfob works fine... locks and unlocks, boot open button works, windows go up and down normally (Not slow from a low battery) parking lights, hazards, and interior lights all work.. but I'm worried that the battery will now run flat from the car not being turned on for days, not allowing me to plug a reader in due to having no battery and the keyfob not turning the ignition on... The car recently had it's timing chain replaced anf injectors re-seated. I have also had the car scanned no longer than 4 weeks ago which brought up faults codes for the CAS system such as.. • A125 - Incorrect signal from E/M • A0C1 - Output, terminal 50 • A0B5 - Fault, road speed signal • A0B3 - Starter motor, terminal 50 • A0AF - Processor • A11E - ELV fault • A0AA - Control unit fault • A0B2 - Supply, terminal 30E/30L I've been so puzzled and trying to figure out what to replace first... Here are my options so far from researching forums in Google and watching various RU-vid videos..... • Check ignition and other fuses under dash • Replace Battery and have coded in • Replace Battery terminal • Replace starter motor • Maybe look at replacing the Alternator..? • Replace and have coded in a whole ECU kit including modules, keyfob and keyfob reader
Hi That sounds like a bad terminal somewhere... check the terminal relays... Check ground points, a bad ground can cause similar problems... Check connections, plugs, etc.. 👍👍👍
Hello there my friends one series has identical problems if it is the ecu can we buy a new ecu if so what do we have to do ? Or could we send to you for a charge ?thanks dan
Where are you based. My 2007 bmw 320d cranking but not starting. My mechanic bought a used ECU unit and its still not start so he said keys needs to programmed. Can you help me please so put my car back on the road. Tx
Now I find your video after 1000 videos...🥵 and I'm amazed...I have same issue with my 330d...same thing's like this bmw...can we can get in touch please...
@@LMAutoRepairs there is some water on bottom I don't check inside ecu...but now is not crank anymore ...somebody say something about a relay...but I'm not sure...
Superb video Subscribed! I have a e87 120d 2007 with similar issue. Car ignites but when I try to start the car I get no response, can hear the fuel pump running just like in the video but the car doesn't turn on. There's time where after 5 or 6 times of trying, the car turns on and works perfectly fine, and then there's times where the car doesn't respond at all for hours. I have replaced new battery but the issue still persists. Do you think it is an electrical issue, any faulty fuses or sensors or do you think it is the ECU? Please any help would be massively appreciated.
I’ve already opened the box, but there's no trace of water, and I opened the EKU but it's all okay. I dont know whats the problem. The car cranks but not start. Help me please??
@@LMAutoRepairs i cheek the battery and i dont have sufficiently the power with the little red cable who come to the box red. Everywhere i have 12.40 V but there i have 3.51 it is possible that this is the cause or its normal.
It takes a *SHARP* --engine.eel-- (actually lots of them) to put the ECU inside a plastic bucket with no proper drain hole at the bottom; damn, they think of the neatest tricks, we be fooked!
All BMW drain holes seem to block very easily and require plenty of regular clearing out. There are quite a few. I've never had problems with any other make of car I have owned but loads of drain probs on BMW 760!!! Gotta keep on top of the issue. 👍
Hi could I ask for your guidance. I have a 325i with a water damaged msv70. I have red the data from the board using xprog and I have a replacement msv70. Would I be able to just copy the data to the replacement and it all work fine( mialage, cas) or do I need to do something els. Your videos are brilliant. I have learned so much from you. Thank you
You should be able to just load the data and should work... I never done one I think, so not 100% sure.. but I pretty sure it should work... how have you backed up the original ecu? On the bench? Thank you for watching and for your comment!
@@LMAutoRepairs yes I did it on the bench using xprog. I thought that was right. I got a bit concerned as I saw a comment on a forum somewhere about the mialage being stored somewhere els and that if I didnt chainge it I would get the tamper dot. I think I will give it a shot and let you know. Thank you for your quick response and thank you fore all the videos u do. They are very informative and it is impressive the vast knowledge you have of menay different brands of vehicle.
Sorry it has taken me so long to get back to you. I have cloned the dme and everything worked fine so i guess that the data for the millage is in the dme somewhere but i couldent fomed it. I just wanted to thank you as all your videos give me inspiration and motivation to work on my car as well as being very informative.
@@littledean8593 Have you checked that there is no wires scuffed or worn that touch the engine or something like that? It can also be the injector itself...
LM Auto Repairs thank you so much for your reply and your help, The wiring loom to the injectors are fine I took it out I did a continuity test on each wire all came back fine so I did suspect injector car keeps shutting of when warm and when I rev it it, how do I know which injector it is I did swap a couple injectors round but it still points to injector 5 even the I swapped out injector 5 could the dde be broken if any wires touched very confusing are you local I live in south east London
@@littledean8593 Ok... you never mentioned before that injectors have been swapped... If you swapped them, and always points to number 5, then could be loom... but you said you checked that... so, could be indeed the ecu...
I have the same errors. I've been suffering for half a year now. The car won't start. I checked all the wires, all the contacts and they are perfect. 😒
Hey loved the video, was just doing my research and stumbled upon this. Appears to be the exact same issue as a E90 330d I have. Pump staying on, not starting, red cog of death and flooded ECU. However I couldn't bring my ECU back, getting it cloned, hopefully sorts the issue
As a retired pcb designer and fault tracer I am impressed. I didn't think there were any younger people coming through with there skills anymore. A I said.... impressive !!
😊 Thanks, it is just a shame that right to repair is not something that industries embrace... making schematics etc more easily available... Would make things way easier... Thank you for watching and for your comment, really appreciated!
I also have a problem with a bmw 530d e60 2005, the starter turns the engine but it doesn't start, the error code is 4691 power 3, can someone help me, please
Hi Luis your videos are very informative and good enough I am requesting you to make the video on how to check the ecu board continuity and trace out the track paths and how to check the processor and eeprom etc about their condition and what are the issues caused by the each one when they are defective
Wow, nice work. I have my BMW745 with the same problem!' No communication and after a week in the shop, he gave up and couldn't find why he couldn't communicate with the car. My car starts ,but the airbag, horn, windshield wiper all disabled. I wish you were around here. Thanks for the great video.
Great job Luis! I'm surprised they couldn't find the cause however I'm not surprised they couldn't fix it lol you'd need a very steady hand for that soldering! 👍☺️
