BMW 3 Series E46 GM5 Module Removal - BMW Door Locks Not Working

If your BMW E46 door locks are not working and your windows are malfunctioning, this is the first thing you want to check, the GM5 module, especially during very cold or hot weather. Some additional signs the GM5 module is bad are intermittent door locking ability and loss of remote locking function. These GM5 malfunction symptoms become worst during extreme hot or cold weather conditions. I will show you how to remove the BMW E46 GM5 module in this video. If you want to repair this module without sending it out to rebuilders, try replacing the two relays on the GM5 board, linked below. These are the relays that commonly go bad on the BMW E46 GM5 module till around late 2004 and on. You may have different relays if your BMW E46 is a late 2004 production E46 and on. What about if the wipers are synchronised any longer? My bmw e46 320d f5ont window wipers have 3 speeds. Now when it rains they stop in the middle of my windscreen after coming on constantly even when the control arm is in the off position. They return to normal after the car engine has been switched for about an hour. Is this the GM5 giving trouble?

i have a problem with my driver door window , its not working , central locking and pasenger window working fine ,when i put another module both windows work but central locking doesnt , now do i need to code the new module or is it maybe the new module is not good ?

If you Google search FRM rebuild remanufacturing. You will find many services that check and repair your module for a fraction of the cost. Please share an update, thanks.

I have pulls, and good lord, it’s impossible to get the passenger side tab undone with that big fuse box harness in there

Hi there, I have a strange problem with remote locking with my bmw e46 325ci 2001. The central locking works fine outside door lock with key and the button from the inside. When I sync the remote key with the usual procedure, it works if I get out of the car and lock it. I come back days later and I can unlock it normally with the remote and lock it again, until I put the key in the ignition and turn to even position 1 or position 2. Immediately the sync is lost and I have to sync the keys again if I want remote locking. This happens with both keys I have. The battery voltage is good on both. I have searched the internet, forums and I never found anyone with this problem. What could cause this?

This should give you services in your geographical area that can bench test and repair your unit. Please share an update, thanks.

@@WheelsTips Finally an update, I did not quite describe the problem accurately the first time. After a while I figured out that the keys did not lose sync. But still, after starting the car, none of the keys would work. If I take a key without an ews chip, a key that can not start the car or a completely blank key, and turn the ignition on and off, the rermote locking again would work, but only until I start the car. After starting the car the remote locking would not work. Also If I disconnect the battery and reconect the remote locking would work but again only until I start the car. INPA and PASoft found a fault in the EWS module: Fault 15 Power on Reset. I tried a few different things: a gm5 module, clonning the ews to another used unit, a key antenna from a different car, teted my antenna as well, changed the board on each of my keys (ews chip transplant) Tested another fzv antenna No change. After all of that, I took a multimeter and had a closer look at the ews wiring. There was no power on ews pin 10 connected to terminal 30. The terminal R pin 11 on the ews had normal switching power. The problem all along was that the fuse 67 was blown. Put a new one in and everything finally works as it should.

Hello there, my question is what suppose i to do in my case? So case is : i bought a bmw e46 1998, last owner changed the gm5 module to more rich package car module, so now my center lock system isnt work, buttond dont work, key not working , and even the key programming procedure isnt working. So what would you suggest to me? Like buy a new gm5 module and try to fix him, or just fix this module (change relays and stuff like that)?

Thanks for watching my video and taking the time to ask a question. In my experience if the module was working properly at sometime after it was changed from the original (assuming it was programmed as well) and then stopped working after a period of time, I personally would have sent off my module to get bench tested and repaired, given the cost. If I were to buy a new module if would be a lot more costly given the programing cost and new part cost. Please share an update on your diagnostics, thanks a bunch.

Thanks for watching my video and taking the time to comment. Truthfully that has never worked for me well. The few times I tried I always ended up with some random issue. This is why I use the rebuild service of my actual module. It retains all your coding, all I did was synch the keys remotes after getting the module rebuilt. The rebuild takes less than 5 days and isn’t terribly priced. Google search, rebuild service GM5 module BMW E46. Please share an update, thanks a bunch.

@@WheelsTips ohh yeah that’s what i was thinking, i just took my gm5 module out i had to do it without being able to open the passenger door.
