I have an 2018 330e and it's been my favorite of the many I have owned over the years. It's so nicely tuned and I only had one problem with the back camera and BMW got it working in ten minutes. It's been in for the yearly checkup four times and I've bought a new set of run flats in all that time. The power in the car really was surprising at first and I love it. My wife never gets in Sport and she is always working the regeneration. Since we're both retired now we figure with the 10 gallon tank we have put close to 120 gallons and 27000 miles on it so the millage has been incredible! The thing we charge at home almost every night, I sometimes feel it doesn't need it. We figure it cost us an extra 10 dollars a month or less for the electric. All and all you can't beat this car if you don't drive more than 50 miles a day or less. We just love this car! Great job BMW!

Is the reduced trunk space an issue? From the video, it looks like quite a narrow space. Can you fit 2 medium sized roller luggage in there? And with the smaller gas tank, you'd be filling up more often on a long road trip, when the electric motor is a non-factor.

I have had a 330e Touring xDrive for 1 year now. I can charge at home and don't burn petrol on my daily commute (2 times 10 miles). On the other hand, I'm traveling from Paris area to south of France once every two months or so. My average consumption over 1 year/20000km (12500 miles) is 5.53l/100km (51.1mpg). Much better than my previous petrol car (Skoda Octavia) with which I was over 8.3l/100km (33.9mpg) in the same conditions. The longer distance I've achieved in full electric mode has been 54km (33.6 miles). Worst consumption achieved in winter, with winter tyres, no initial battery charge, and with a roof case: 8.5l/100km (33.2mpg) Usually i'm around 7 to 7.5l/100km (40.4 to 37.7mpg) on highways (at around 90mph). That's the most fun car I have had since I started driving in 1985. I'm driving quite often in small roads in the Pyrenées mountains. About the additionnal weight, I'd say this is felt only in very particular conditions, such has braking hard or curves taken at (too) high a speed. And btw, it's not that much heavier compared to a 330d. Overall, so far, I'm fully satisfied with the car. I forgot to mention: 1 full battery charge of 13kWh costs around 1.6€ here in France.

In a muddled world where people are trying to get their heads around petrol, diesel, electric, and hybrid, it is pointless comparing fuel usage figures. It is time to start using cost per mile (or kilometer). Even using this as a way of comparison does not work well for hybrids: We are retired, and drive a BMW 330e... we only do short daily running, and are on an electricity plan that gives three hours per day free. Our electric running carries virtually no cost. Allowing for the occasional trip involving petrol, we would still come close to the nonsensical WLTP consumption figures. BUT... If my next door neighbour owned the car, the picture would be totally different; he is still working, and drives big daily distances... he would have a very different picture, and would most likely be financially better off with a diesel. THERE IS NO STRAIGHT ANSWER, but it is definitely time the WLTP system was scrapped!

Thanks for that John, that's a really interesting viewpoint and angle. Free fuel for your powerful BMW: winning. We agree on the standardised test though - it's not very useful... ^ Shane

That’s a good point, I reckon to charge it is about 4 euro on normal day rate.I have recently changed from a 520d to a 330e, only getting the hang of it but looking good so far, I drive 90km each way for work. I’m still trying to work out what I’m doing but very happy with it so far, smaller tank is throwing me off a little. I went on a long spin Kerry to Waterford and came back without plugging in, around 200km, computer said 47mpg. That’s the same as the 520d. I will be getting Solar on the house soon so it will be no brainier to plug in. Night rate probably not worth the 60 euro extra standing charge per month.

@PiefacePete46 Год назад
@@patrickcurran686 : Your experience so far is similar to mine. I changed from a 335d Touring to the 330e 4-door. On a trip, my consumption is similar to the diesel, but using petrol, of course. The saving for me is the day to day short running, which is almost all on "Free" electricity. After four years, we still love it to bits!

After hundreds of independent tests, this car actually emits 3 times the hydrocarbons that BMW claim, and only averages 51mpg !!! I'm a massive BMW serial owner, love the brand, but the claims about this care have now been proven to be absolute bs.
@CompletecarIe
@CompletecarIe Год назад
Well if you have a PHEV you ought to be charging all the time. Otherwise there’s not much point.
@DjNikGnashers
@DjNikGnashers Год назад
@@CompletecarIe Yes, and then you have to factor in the emissions from generating all the extra electricity it costs to charge the thing. Doesn't seem like any advantage to me. Even full EV's are a bit smoke & mirrors, with modern clean petrol and diesels you would have to drive at least 100,000 miles before you actually break even on your carbon footprint. So in reality it's much more efficient to carry on driving your modern petrol or diesel.

@@CompletecarIe yes because most of the time I drive short distances so the car is very economical. If I was an autostrade driver I would recommand a diesel because Above 100km/h (60mpg) it automatically runs only on petrol. So the hybride wouldn’t make Any sense.

Plug-in hybrids can be incredibly efficient if used correctly. Conversely, they don't work well if you don't plug them in at all, which means those with long journeys to do and no way to plug them in along the way may experience higher fuel consumption than, for example, a good diesel. ^ Shane

$100 save per month= $1200 for 10 years, $10200 great car excellent 👏.. but catch here is after 10 years high voltage batter replacement cost around $10000 woth labour. Then how did its benefit the customer with hybrid high maintenance costs than the combustion engine ? High voltage battery is battery at the end battery will die and needs to replace 😤

I actually singed up for one of these (I currently have a 2013 F31 320d estate, which it was to replace) But I backed out of the order. Why? Because I realised that for the way I use my vehicle, the 330e is horribly compromised. Most of my journeys are fewer than 20 miles, with the occasional longer 200 mile drive. That means that for the majority of my vehicle use, I am lugging around an engine and a tank of fuel that I am never using. And as a result, with all that extra weight, I am compromising the range I get with electricity. On a longer journey, but to a lesser extent, the opposite happens: I am lugging around an electric motor and batteries which in turn is reducing the efficiency of the petrol engine. Instead, I changed my order for the new all-electric i4, with its promised 350 mile range and rapid charging, it means I can do my usual pootling about and only have to charge once a month, but when I want to do a longer journey, I can. I think I have made the better decision. I just wish the i4 had an estate body. Still, the 'lift back' or whatever BMW calls it, looks good.
@marspp
@marspp 2 года назад
Interesting... i4 weighs 300kg + more than a 330e. So you’ll be dragging all that weight about all the time. And unlike a petrol car, it doesn’t get any lighter as you use it. i4 came out just after I ordered my 330e but would have considered it. Glad I didn’t with the price of electricity - it costs more to charge at home than the company car rates for full electric gives you back on business miles. On longer journeys the 330e lets you “recharge” completely in about 2 mins 😉 See you on Anet...
