Welcome to another Bimmer Fixer video. In this video i will show you a gauge that not a lot of people know about that tells you when the engine in your BMW 5 series e60 is at it's running temperature. Thanks for the video, I have this in my 05, but I have a question, I bought an e60 made in Set 07 and there is always three lines, should I assume this model doesn’t have the feature?

@shakealeg88 Hi, I'm not 100% but I think it should still have the feature. I think I saw a 2009 520d with the feature. I will do some research and let you know if I get a definite answer.

I've got an old 2004 525i, I noticed this ages ago and its correlation to engine temperature, On mine I always have 3 white lines above the red, I've never seen those lines completely disappear behind the red warning indicator...anybody else have the same or is it just me...thanks..good video

@@curtssallee9807 mine warms up quickly, scan it for codes, if you get a map cooling error then the thermostat is stuck/faulty

Hi ı have 5.20 2007 LCI E60, my lines are everytime stays at 4.6. how can ı check it's sensor where is the position of it anybody knows?

@Kamil Kizik Hi there, so you can see 4 to 6 lines when the engine is warmed up?

Is it ok if it never comes fully down after 2h of driving?

@oko7117 Yeah thats normal for it not to completely come down. You should still be able to see some lines when the engine is at operating temperature.

2004.year e60 dont have that gage for temperature...its only since 2005.year BMW E60 have that temperature gage...

@Viz_10 so depending on the engine it will be slightly different but after the engine is up to temperature you should see 3 or 4 lines above the red section. Hope that helps.

@@TheBimmerFixer is two lines ok? My drain plug was bad and i had a slight leak. Maybe that's why two lines?

@@SebastianTapia-zr7nuif I run my e60 5 series hard it will go down to 3 with the third hardly showing. Normally it’s 3.5 ish for me

Yeah that's correct 3.5 to 4.5 lines is running temperature 90c°

What happens when the white lines above the red line bar move up?

@SebastianTapia-zr7nu If the white lines are moving up and you can see more white lines the engine is cooling down.

@@TheBimmerFixer so basically the lower the white lines. Just drive it at normal speed ? Just don't be aggressive on the gas pedal? My oil drip plug is not all the way sealed that's why!.

@@TheBimmerFixer when the mechanic did my oil change he said there was 3 quarts out of 7 left. I drove car with oil indicator for two weeks because I mistook it for a oil change instead of level. The car never overheated or anything Just wondering if I cooked anything or since it was still half way full im good. It's a great motor too. 04 525i m54 motor. Just want to know if everything is OK or if I caused some wear and tear on it. 140 ,000 miles
