Since my last tour I have had problems with a rattling noise in the rear area of my BMW C 400 GT. This is very annoying and today you will find out whether I was able to localize and fix the problem. Have fun with the video!
Vielen Dank an Zuschauer Frank für seine Erfahrungen. Er hat den Roller komplett zerlegt und etliche Probefahrten durchgeführt, bis er auf die Ursache kam. "Es tritt nur auf, wenn eine Gepäckbrücke anstatt der Griffe montiert ist. Dann fangen die Federn bei mir bei 5300/min stark an zu schwingen. Anscheinend wird durch die schlüssige Verbindung ein System mit genau dieser Eigenfrequenz hergestellt."

Glückwunsch für die gelungene Fehlerbehebung! Nebengeräusche können echt quälend sein! Es ist nur wieder erschütternd, dass bei einem derart hochpreisigen Fahrzeug die Stoßdämpfer mal wieder „günstig“ (von BMW) zugekauft wurden. Aber das kennen wir ja schon ähnlich von einem italienischen Hersteller…… BGM/SC freuen sich!😅
Das ist schon mal gut zu wissen. Ich habe gestern den neuen C400GT im Anhänger abgeholt. Wird noch einen Moment dauern, bis ich es austesten werden kann - aber so ist schon einmal eine Lösung im Kasten, sollte das Problem auftreten. Ich hoffe, es folgen noch viele Videos vom C400 - ein wirklich interessanter Scooter.
Glückwunsch zur Fehlerbehebung. Bei der TÜV Eintragung wünsche ich dir viel Erfolg, ohne dass sie ein tiefes Loch im Portemonnaie hinterläßt. Kurze Frage an dich: Als du deinen Honda ADV verkauft hast, hast du mal überlegt, einen XMAX 300 Tech MAX in deine Kaufüberlegungen mit einzubeziehen?
Thanks for sharing. I also had the buzzing sound up front, I checked all of the screws that hold the plastics on and found some were loose. After tightening a few of the screws the buzzing disappeared. Also when leaning the bike left or right at any speed, I felt and heard vibration, like bad bearing sound and feel. I did not have a lot of miles on the bike, maybe 5000 miles, I traded it in for another bike. I miss the heated grips 😂, now that the temperatures have become close to freezing.
Hallo Marc Ich fahre die C400 GT jetzt schon 1 Jahr bei mir ist das Geräusch noch nicht aufgetreten,ich werde es mal beobachten . Danke für den Hinweis, ich wünsche dir noch viel Spaß mit dem Roller und mache weiter so schöne Videos die sind sehr lehrreich. Übrigens habe ich mir auch die Spiegelverbreiterungen bei Wunderlich bestellt das ist glaube ich ein muss bei dem Roller. Grüße Hajo
Moin aus Norddeutschland 🙋🏻 tolle Fehlerbehebung,hat sich fahrtechnisch ja auch verbessert. In eigener Sache was: ich habe meinen Kymco X Town 300 bei Motorrad Test Leser Bike mal rein gestellt, um zu zeigen wie preiswert man Spaß haben kann, große Laufleistung in wenig Jahren,etc. Wenn Du Lust hast kannst ja mal reinschauen. Thanks, Marc. Excellent review. I had the '22 C 400 GT for about 5,600 miles, and now just recently got that exchanged for a '23 C 400 GT because of the engine problem I had with the '22. And now riding season is over for me, in the winter. I never noticed the noise you're talking about, but my hearing is very bad (at 75 years old); off the bike I wear hearing aids, and on the bike I wear custom-molded silicone ear plugs. So, sorry, I can't really comment on noises. By the way, if anyone takes the underseat tub out, be careful about the little spring switch in the back. That's the one that won't let the bike be started if the flex case is lowered (although you bypass it with a paperclip, in an emergency). Last year, I took out the tub to do some wiring -- I added Skene P3-TS LEDs -- and I guess I banged the switch against the frame, and broke the switch (and replaced it). So be careful back there. But you sold the latest C 400 GT, anyway, right? Was it because of the TUV? (We don't have shock-absorber inspections in the USA, but I'm aware of such things.) How long did you have the GT this time, just a couple of months, before you got the RE Classic? Nice work again, Marc, and I'll miss your C 400 GT videos (but look forward to more RE videos, since I have the Meteor 350, too). Cheers -- Bill
Hi Bill, the noise only appears if the original luggage rack is mounted. I had the BMW for 4 months, sold it because of the noise and a not satisfying service of BMW. I enjoy my Classic 350 and the service is very good. Also most of the modifications are quite cheap, especially compared with BMW. Cheers Marc
@@thebikegeekandmore2448: I don't understand that part of Marc's comment. The luggage rack replaces the stock passenger grab rails, and uses the same four threaded bolt holes (two on each side) in the bodywork that the grab rails used. That is, it doesn't alter the structure of the bike in any way that I can figure, except making the bike a tiny bit more rigid (because it's one piece, instead of two). Sure, it adds a little bit of weight, and a top case will add some more weight, but that's just like adding a rider who is, say, 20 or 30 lbs. heavier than Marc. So I don't see why that would directly affect the shocks, and their loose inner sleeves. I had the BMW luggage rack and top case on my '22 C 400 GT, and now have those two pieces also on my '23 C 400 GT. I never noticed any vibration/sound issues but, as I mentioned, my hearing is pretty worthless, so I'm no help there. If anyone wants to avoid using the BMW luggage rack and top case, Shad -- which has some really nice top cases, including the adjustable-size one that Marc had on his first C 400 GT (and has a very useful video on that) -- sells its own mounting bracket. That bracket uses those same four bolts, but goes underneath the stock passenger grab rails. i.e., between the bottom of the grab rails and the bodywork. There's a nice YT video of installing that by vlogger GaryGSF, if you're interested in that.
@@wspollack : I also fitted the Shad brackets and 58X Topbox and have not had any vibrations or problems. The shallow lines of the 58X really suit the bike plus it is of course expandable if you need extra space. I also used the installation video from GaryGSF; very simple step by step guide. Gary lives just a couple of miles from me.
Herzlichen Glückwunsch, Marc, zur Problembehebung! Ja, ein Klappern oder Schnarren kann nervig sein und muß bei einem Premium-Fahrzeug wie Deinem beileibe nicht sein. Ich drücke Dir die Daumen, daß es auch beim TÜV klappt mit der Annahme.
I heard that the Öhlins are TÜV or ABE certified for both the X and the GT. Unfortunately the YSS seems only to be certified for the X model.... Anyway, if you're going to pay for an individual certification, why don't you mount the front YSS fork upgrade kit before that, so you only spend money once?
Super, gratuliere zur Lösung! Ich hatte den Voge SR4 max und habe ihn zurück gegeben, da die Vibrationen bei 4200 U/min heftig waren und es der Händler nicht lösen konnte. Ich finde es sehr traurig, dass Du als Kunde das Problem selbst lösen musstest und vermutlich auf den Kosten sitzen bleibst und evtl. Probleme mit der Garantie bekommst. Die Gewinnmaximierung von BMW geht hier zu weit. Mein Honda ADV350 ist für mich der deutlich bessere Roller, da vibriert nix und meiner läuft flotter mit 29 PS als der Voge mit 34PS.
Danke dir. Honda ist was Qualität angeht schon immer top. Ist ja schlecht, das der Voge auch unter Vibrationen leidet. Ich hoffe, ich kann ihn bald mal Probe fahren.
Hi Marc, verfolge nach wie vor wöchentlich deine Videos. Fährst du deine BMW auch über den Winter? Meine c400x hat ein Saisonkennzeichen und kommt frühestens am 1.3.2024 wieder zum Einsatz. LG und mach weiter so.
Hi Marc. I have not had any problems with vibrations at all or anything in relation to the shocks. I fitted the Shad brackets and Shad 58X box as per your Neo1.
Hi Paul, seems the vibration sound only appears when the original luggage rack is mounted. The Shad rack is different, because it's in 2 parts. Cheers Marc
Hallo Marc, wenn BMW die Stossdämpfer selber im Werk austauschen kostenneutral ist es ok. Ich bin nicht bereit bei einem so teuren Roller zusätzlich fiel Geld rein zu stecken um komfortable fahren zu können. Die Beschwerden des Schnarrends wird BMW bekannt sein. Aber die Hochnäsigkeit kennen wir ja die haben den Roller schon abgeschrieben und verkaufen dafür jede Menge 1300 GS. L. G. Tschüss Peter😢😅
Was ich erlebt habe Reifen vorne durchs langes stehen Beule (nicht sichtbar) Fahr mal langsam freihändig sehr starke Vibration musste neue Reifen kaufen nie wieder Pirelli.
@@ScooteriaThat wobbling effect when hands free, means lack of traction on the front wheel. It's a common problem with sctooters, because most of the weight is in the back, when you modify the suspension with softer schock absorvers and use a top case at the same time, the back of the scooter dives more, and that causes loss of traction in the front.... Unfortunatelly, in some cases, you have to choose between the topcase and the suspension upgrade... having both at the same time is not good....
Hello Marc, I've just fitted the Wunderlich mirror extenders like yours and I notice you have fitted a Ram mount to lift the extender off the heated grips switch. Can you tell me which Ram mount it is please...Many thanks...Pleased you got the annoying noise sorted.
Es curioso lo que comentas sobre las vibraciones, porque yo tengo una voge sr4 y exactamente a 5200 revoluciones tiene una vibración muy clara. Desde mi punto de vista es del variador, porque si fuera del amortiguador no seria tan precisa a 5200. Al menos esa es mi sensación. Vibra tanto al subir como al bajar de 5200 y por eso me resulta extraño que sea del amortiguador o de cualquier otra pieza que no sea del motor.
Bei dem Voge auch nicht, ich weiß aber nicht, ob da die Probleme mit den Geräuschen auch auftauchen. Ich hoffe, ich kann bald eine Probefahrt machen, wenn es wieder wärmer wird.
Bei fast allen technischen Veränderungen erlischt die Garantie. Wie z.B. Variorollen, Vario, Auspuff, Fahrwerk… BMW will das nur Originalteile verbaut werden.
Hello from Romania. The c400gt is a great looking and easy riding scoot. Very comfortable and fun to ride. I own the 2023 model (dont know if there is any diferrence comparing to 2019-2022). Now when the cold weather started I have experienced about 3 times, that when I started the engine (cold), it runned for about 15 seconds then it stalled. I had to start the engine again, and no stalling after. Have you experienced this issue? Also when riding outside the city, what is the temperature for the coolant showing? Outside the city, 6 degrees celsius, the coolant temperature drops to 55. In the citty temperature is average 80. Do you experience the same?
I had this issue, too, once, on my new '23 C 400 GT, when attempting to start riding right after turning it on. I now let it idle for a minute or so when the engine is cold -- first start of the day -- and all is well. I haven't had it stall all by itself, without trying to ride, though.
