My final review of the BMW Motorrad Connected Ride Navigator. After software update v1.0.1 it still lacks what I look for in a GPS Navigation unit. BMW should do better....as they do make great motorcycles for offroad.
My Norwegian rider, I just got it a few days ago, still need to learn how to get audio to my helmet, and using the wheel, which Don’t know how to do yet. I like it. Thank you
I can't say that I don't blame you for selling it. I. Ought mine a week ago and less than impressed at the way it handles on road routes, let alone off-road ones. Seriously, considering a new garmin
Sven I agree. - I like the Connected ride navigator but there are 3 software issues with the unit which are REALLY annoying….. 1. Unless you remove the unit from the bike when finish your ride and manually switch it off, then the unit will have a dead battery when you next come back to the bike. 2. The unit automatically recalculates imported routes or tracks - making nonsense of your carefully pre planned route. 3. If you are following a route and then stop for a break - when you return to the bike the route doesn’t re-appear. This means that you have to create a new route after every coffee stop! I can live with these issues for the time being but if there isn’t a fix in 2024 - i will probably also switch to a different Sat Nav system.
I could also live with some issues, if I knew they will be corrected in a reasonable amount of time...if I knew what is the ambitions of the unit. I don't know that.
wow, big negatives. I hate to put my old NavV on the 1300 when I get it but I would hate more to spend the money and find the negatives that you outline. thanks for this info.
Thank you for your informative and critical videos. After the software update, I have seen that my bike (1250GS from 2023) looses time when the navigator is connected. The tft is not reliable. My friend’s bike has the same issue. Every hour the navigator is connected the bikes watch looses some minutes. Very strange
It takes a lot of time, effort and knowledge to get at the same level where Garmin is. BMW thought they could do the same but unfortunately they failed miserably. They will always run behind and then Garmin comes with a completely new system and they are back to square one again. Nice try but no cigar. Better buy a Zumo XT2 or a Navigator 6 instead of wasting your expensive money on an inferior product like this.
Yes I think they may have been too optimistic. And may be the development of this unit was handed over to the urban mobility department, who knows. NOT the adventure department in any case.
I agree, but they could make a device that offer Android Auto or Car play and make it a fantastic success. Take a look of what Royal Enfield did to the new Himalayan with on board Google maps !
@@adogarza BUT! The screen is round, and maps are square. RE should have put a rectangular screen. Reading maps, or text should ALWAYS be done on that shape. It’s easier for the eye to follow. You also see more of the map on a square/rectangular screen
Hi, enjoy your videos. Question, are the road maps more accurate? The old nav didn't give an accurate picture of the road (made bends in the road look much less than they actually were)
This Connected Ride Navigator isn't worth the $900 BMW wants for it. Save your money and get a Garmin XT2 with the cradle mount. You won't miss the wonderwheel at all.
I have made a lot videos about the unit, also how to plan and upload routes, please look here :-) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-aANLPWqt9Fg.html&pp=gAQBiAQB
I have looked into that and tried it on a Samsung phone. Considered a tablet also but I think it a bit too big for my liking. But it's a great software. Very flexible. But I will go for a dedicated GPS.
