I traded my '90 e30 for a '95 e34. Loved the e34 so much I still have it in my garage. The e34 is so much smoother, and quieter, and has traction control and power sunroof. I hate the door rust forming because of the stupid trim piece on the lower door edges. Leather interior has held up well. The car is my "proper" car. RWD, leather, 5 speed. Everything works. Good looking, good handling, no squeaks or rattles, decent performance, solid as a rock. My forever car.
@@vvasko779 You can apply industrial quality rust converter on and around the rust so that it will stop spreading until you get a chance to repair the rusted plating. Rust converter is water based and you can apply it with a paint brush. Scrape off the excess rust with a steel brush and scraper thoroughly and apply. If you had to repair the rust permanently, it's not good to weld as this makes the metal weaker and the rust starts quickly again. It's good to pop-rivet zintex metal after curing the rust and beat it in , then apply body filler paste, then primer and paint the original colour of the car.
One noticeable difference between the E30 and E34 when driving it, interior quality and amount of rattling, the E34 doesn't rattle as much inside as an E30, also the E34 is extremely silent inside compared to the E30
if you are watching this video you probably know a thing or two about 90s bmws, however i could totally understand how someone who does not interested in cars, seeing the e30, e34, and e38 as the same car
Sick cars Josh! I recently watched your 5 speed swap video. I just manual swapped my touring and I'm loving it! Now I can get my e30 vert our of storage for a complete paint job (calypso red) and m50 swap. 😀
check control still exists for e34 its just integrated into the gauge cluster. press and hold the right side button on the cluster and if you dont have any faults the screen will read "Check Control OK"
Actually an E30 is the evolution of the E23 and E28. Remember in those days and through the 90s BMW started new chassis engineering with 7s, then 5s and then 3 series. The E30 was the later version of the E28 and they started with some of the body shape that eventually was prevalent in the new E32 and E34. So they are often thought of as the same “generation family”. They really weren’t.
Turbocharged the e34 m30 your life would change. As for the narrow kidney grill. The e34 did have a wide kidney grill the last few years before it was discontinued.
Wish all the hype beasts didn’t f up the e30 market, was looking for another one but it’s 13k for a clean “dailyable” rust free auto vert in Cali. Got my 5 speed 318i for less then half of that about 6 years ago
I'm guilty of having mixed these two cars up back in 2020, when I saw Giorgi Tevzadze drift his black E34 I thought it was an E30. Both are admittedly very nice cars just with different characteristics that come down to personal preferences.
It goes like this for generation equivalents for BMW platform codes: 3series = 5series = 7series E30=E28=E23 E36=E34=E32 E46=E39=E38 E90=E60=E65 F30=F10=F01 G20=G30=G11 TBA(2026?)=G60=G70
How can you possibly mistake an E30 for an E34? They are like chalk and cheese. Even if performance and handling were matched the interior space/comfort/noise are completely different.
The E-34 is more like a Luxury sedan, for professional people, the E-30 is like for everybody who doesn*-t mind the that the chairs ain*t electric, windows are manual, sunroof is not electric, it uses a crank, eventhough I think they had all those options electric, I believe
Does the e34 still feel like a boat if the suspension was upgraded to coilovers and stiffer swaybars? I understand the e30 is smaller amd would feel better in the handling but is it that bad of a difference with upgraded suspension between the two?
Keep it shock for fabricate a OEM airbox make from fiberglass. The sound is amazing and is what Lancia Used on their Stratos Group 4 race cars. Zero need for carbon fiber. Reference Jay Leno’s video on the red Group 4 Stratos.
Before I saw this video I thought they were a lot different. Now that I've seen this I realize they are THE SAME CAR! LOL. Except in size. By the way the E30 had many other engines. They had the. 316i 318i 325i 325e "M" etc. But each of those cars had a different engine variant.
Whenever I consider a E30, a lot because of the hype and simplicity and aftermarket support. Do I come back to this video to remind myself all the things I love about my E34s. I have had small light cars before, down to a 750-800 kg one, they are fun, but I get tired of them. I got two early E34s with the M20 and manual everything and not even abs, so they rarely break on me. I am keeping to my E34s, I might buy a pre-91 535i one day if original, good price and not messed with by younger people, as well as few electric options... have one in mind that is owned by a older gentleman close to me, a 89 535i with no electric gimmicks, a manual and no sunroof!!! If not a parts car to swap the subframe and drivetrain over to one of my E34s. Besides that I am keeping to my comfy, simple and well handling E34s... E30 sure must be a fun toy, but I use my old cars for transport as well as moving things. And the extra space over a E30 has saved me many times. Thanks for the reminder yet again ;) Edit: might make me sound like a grandpa, but I also really can't go without my drop down E34/E32 armrests 🤣
You don't get those in the states but 88-89 E34 with the mechanical cluster, 4 crank windows and analog clock and base cloth seats look like a carbon copy of the E30 inside. The vibe is woozing from it, especially with that M20B20 engine. The dashes don't crack, they expand and get like bloated to the point its impossible to put the dash vent in and you get a huge gap over the central vent. Cutting costs sadly, the E32 dash is from 2 pieces and the separate front part absorbs everything without affecting the rest. Your E30 seats are the vinyl option which looks exactly the same when specced on the E34. And yeah, ugly and outdated. The e36 interior is pure gargabe, 100% agreed
Bro WTF is "brake light circuit?!?" Mine comes on every once awhile too. I thought it was the switch on the pedal but it still does it after I swapped my pedals during the manual swap(unless the one I swapped is bad too)
if you specifically just want to compare your pre-facelift (VFL) E34 with a facelift E30 (germanly known as an NFL = after facelift), then ok...otherwise you would need to expand your front yard with an E28 and an E32 (7series) at least in order to compare (although the E28 is more comparable to an E21, of course, given just the looks). Now your door trim and what not depends on whether you have a shadowline or chrome model....also pre-facelift E30s have several different features compared to the NFL (yours). Engines: Pre-FL E30s also came with M10 (carburetor or injection) 315, 316, 318, M20 (320,323,325) and so on...M42 = 318is (Facelift), M40 = 316, 318 Facelift (Tourings and early E36 models)... as for motor rubber bushing mounts, I believe, for an M20 you can use an E23 (older 7series) and just trim the thread a little, they are harder than stock M20....tranny mounts, I believe some of the E21 have better ones that also fit an E30...E30s will have 3 different models of headlights depending on the year...Hofmeister kink is germanly known as the Hofmeister-Knick btw. One interesting fact: I've never seen an oil-cooler on a 525i E34 whereas every 325i E30 should have one...
You really have no idea about these cars or your opinion really isn't helpful. The e30 is a sports drift car compare to the e34 luxury sport sedan, know the difference.
@@m3nameisjosh464 Alrighty then. I agree that the E34 is a better car and it does drive like a boat. I currently have a 1990 E30 , 316i with 163000 km. It is stock and it's not tincanny. It drives smooth and no road noise, possibly because I haven't abused it or driven recklessly. I live in South Africa. Thanks for your informative video.
The M50 in the E34 had the 24v Vanos from '93 at about the same time as they did the trim facelift. I have a '93 24v Vanos M50B20 with pre-facelift narrow kidney grils and post facelift interior.
What’s up bro can you please make a video comparing the suspension from an E30 to E34 I have an E 34 525 i and I’m trying to find an angle kit but I have had no luck finding one for the E34 for just the E30
pff.. talking about engines NOT to have in the e34... I have an M40, SOHC 1.8l 4cyl my old mk2 vw gti was like a spaceship compared to my slug,, oh and its a touring so even heavier... will be swapping soon...
If he made the video he clearly has had people confusing it. IF ur a bmw geek is such a bmw geek thing to say. U do realize no one cares about our cars but us. Otherwise they look and mistakenly call e34's an e30
