very good video. no yapping and right on point. the motors hardly ever go bad and you show the actual steps to replace it into the new regulator. BRAVO!!

Fort Worth! Where the west begins.....I was born there, raised there, lived there until moving to northern new Mexico in my 40's, and got both of my e39 Touring in Funkytown/ Panther City. But I don't let any mechanic touch them - or my Volvo 240 or 122s or first gen 4runner. Did you get to fix your windows yourself?
Greetings from New Mexico, Land of Enchantment. An ice storm last year (as they always do) froze the window scrapper to the driver's door glass (and all other windows for that matter) and I did not free it up before attempting to roll the window down. It slipped my mind, sadly. So you have helped me to understand what is involved (youtube is often better than searching my Bentley's manuals) and I am grateful. I do not think anything is broken - the regulator clamps just pulled straight off the glass. This one of my biggest beefs with BMW and their design of the e39. You'd think they would have taken this clue from the Volvo 240 - since the rest of the e39 design seems to hail directly from the 240 - where the Volvo 240 windows are truly protected in winter. Sure- I guess the 240 windows could be frozen to the scrappers - but it's never happened on my 240 int he same climates. Also - the e39 doors freeze to the body in the same way. Snow will melt at the top of the seal and then trickle down slightly and freeze in place. The you try to get the doors open and the seal breaks - part of which is stuck to the body paint. Unbelievable ineptitude coming from a car maker who supposedly understands what it is like to live in a place with winters. I expect this kind of thoughtlessness from a Jamaican car maker (with respect to winters only) respectfully.
I had my door frozen as well. And the window... I don't know what can be done about it.... Especially if it freezes after rain. I have a car port at home and the car is protected. Also, I make sure I clean the snow off the window after driving is it accumulates. If I forget about it and leave the car like that, warmed after driving, snow will melt and then freeze in the doors...

What held me up was the rubber lined glass mounting pieces from the original lift mechanism was fused to the glass and didn't want to budge. I finally resigned myself to the possibility of breaking the window so I kept hitting the metal part of the mount with a hammer. They both finally fell off and I found finish the installation. A couple of things. ALWAYS disconnect the battery before screwing around with the airbags. All it takes is one time exploding in your face to do some serious injury/disfigurement/hearing loss. You can leave it plugged in and just hang it off to one side with some wire. If you disconnect it while the battery is connected it will probably throw a code about it not working. Second, you don't have to remove the hook from the door handle. The whole think will slip through the vapor barrier. Third, to insert the 3 top screws, it helps tremendously to use some of that black sealant from around the door, putting a bit of it on the screw head to make it stay on the socket. It can be tough enough trying to get the holes to align and slip those 3 screws in, without them falling down into the door frame.
While removing the outer window trim gives you a little more wiggle room, you can get the window out and back in without removing it, but it is a tight fit so don't break the glass trying to force it. I left my trim on because I didn't want to take a chance on scratching the paint or bending the trim. If you have the proper plastic tool to do it, then go ahead.

El mi-a spus ca macaraua trebuia schimbata. Habar nu am ce a facut. Ok, vorba multa strica, am sa ma uit si am sa-ti dau de veste. Gasesc undeva cablu separat? E greu de inlocuit? Multumesc!
My window came off the rack so I took the panel off to put it back on and now my hazards wont stop flashing, lock button isnt working and monitor wont turn on. someone help. yes ive checked fuses, theyre fine

Al meu e din 96. Nu are senzor sa se oprească. Geamul se oprește când simte ca forțează motorul. Nu ai ceva care obstructioneaza mișcarea? Spațiul rămas este uniform sau mai degrabă e geamul strâmb?
My 2003 540i doesnt change gear when im driving, It makes sort of an aeroplane sound. What can i do. I have changed the gearbox, issue persisits. What can i do
There are speed sensors in one or more of the wheels that feed info to the computer, that tells the tranny when to change gears, (it's also part of the traction control system). Those cables eventually get frayed and the wires break. I don't remember if each wheel has one, but get under the car and look for the sensor bolted onto the wheel hub and follow the cable. If/when you see the frayed cable then that's your problem. I think it was on my front left wheel, but check all four wheels. The cable connects to a main connector box in the wheel well, so you'll have to pull off the tire to see it. The cable eventually gets frayed from road debris.
This was quite a while back.. I don't remember. I think if you search on realoem you'll find a part number for the whole thing, motor included. If I remember correctly it was at the car parts store that I found out that there's a repair part, without motor (hence cheaper...). Go to the store and ask about the window lifter for your car... (The car VIN will help)
Si eu o intrebare la tine Cosmin, La mine , apas pe buton si se aude un clickait de rezistenta in buton, dar nu se aude motorul la geam , nici nu coboara geamul meu de la sofer de nici o culoare. Sa se fi dus motorasul ala ? Si oare se poate repara sau doar schimba ?
+Jaqen H’ghar afara cred ca și mai greu sa găsești pe cineva sa repare ceva. eu încerc să repar, dar în cazul ăsta nu prea ai ce. sunt niște role de plastic capsate, niște angrenaje iar de plastic...
atunci e clar,ma gandeam ca poate o fi ruginit dar m-am uitat la el asa un pic fara sa il scot de acolo si pare ok, adica nu pare a da urme de vechime prea multe. Numai ca nu raspunde la comenzi...Problema e ca nu vreau nici sa o scot, sa ma duc sa caut pe la dezmembreri , si te pomenesti ca nu gasesc si raman si cu geamu deschis =)) Vad eu , mersi oricum de raspuns.
Cosmin Rotaru ya these designs are crappy. After I installed the wire would fall off the guide and make a big click sound that sounded like a broken regulator. Had to bend it a little and good so far. Great videos sir!
The only thing I could think of as far as music or background - would be something minimal like George Winston - anything off of the album Autumn. Otherwise - hells to the no.
Ricard Rebollo this is a 96 model. No door airbag. You might have seen some airbag sign on the door cover - I changed the interior. Took it from a 2002 facelift.
This video was really helpful. .. my lifter was replaced before I bought my car and now the window works intermittently. ..I'm guessing motor failing. I took it apart using your video and it's in bits awaiting the new motor.
