I am subscriber number 221. Darren should have been up for a BAFTA (best actor). Great videos as I am considering buying a E39 M5.

I recently saw a BMW with oil in the engine. Should I avoid this as I don't see this too often?

Extremely concerning! If his driveway isn’t soaked in oil, I would walk away 😅

You need to get underneath and check for the old metal mice....lots of rot possible!

Rod bearings aren't such a big issue on these. I've had 2 and both were north of 120k miles when I sold mine (126k and 140k). Jacking point rust is a major issue with these, and they can start using oil, around a litre to 400 miles at its worst. This can be due to the valve stem oil seals. Track control arm bushes like to fail too. The heater blower is usually the hedgehog resistor. This is a sod to get at on the driver's side lower centre console at the rear. Decent cars otherwise, glad I owned mine, but I won't go back.

I haven’t liked the aftermarket monitor.

M5 deserves a much better monitor.

Yes, I agree that this monitor doesn’t suit. If I bought with standard monitor I would have done OEM+ upgrade. At the moment, I would rather spend money on the car than fixing the monitor which still works.

Lets say maintenance has been kept up to date, how long are these engines known to last for in miles or km?

I think I saw a video of someone with a 500k original engine but who knows 🤷🏻‍♂️ I think it you keep on top of maintenance they are pretty bulletproof but things like bore scoring gets expensive when replacing/repairing things like the Alusil block
