Great work. Something that works great is marine heat shrink tube to protect the wire connections. It's also moisture proof. Tape tends to unravel over time.

Thank you for this video! I have had a backup camera that replaces one of the licens plates laying around that im going to install. Also about the bluetooth adaptor, is it working fully with the 20pin adaptor in between? Didnt work for me as the app (torque) never got connection to the ECU.
Good luck with the install! It is not a reliable connection, sometimes things show up, next morning they're gone. That was the main reason to continue the hunt for a better solution to get BC functions back ;)
Great video, the car looks great in the add. Hope it finds a caring owner like you. Your English is great, where are you from? The original OBC from the car can be fitted inside the glovebox in order to reset the Consumption, time... All that can later be used on the main menu in cluster.
Ok. I will anyway replace the lcm2 with lcm3 and try, but yeah, the ibus app is not optimal and it anyway does not replicate all the functions I used in the original OBC. Hope you make another video if you find an alternative, if you still have the 528. Thank you for the reply.
Hi there! Over here there are many quality Bmw suppliers. Depending on where you are, I would either browse around a bit on e39 forums or try to find the parts straight from manufacturers ;)
Did you get everything back to normal after the ibusapp confused your car? I see n their website, they mention that the dashboard can cause problems on models prior to 9/98. Mine is a 8/97..
Absolutely, after unhooking the battery for a while and keeping this app switched off. Also had to re-initiate all the keys. Good luck with your build! ;)
Ok, thank you for the reply. That is a bummer that we can not use this app. I have wanted this upgrade for years but have not done it because I wanted to retain the obc functions and when I found this app just days before I found your channel, I ordered the eonon unit. I will install it anyway and will have to do without the obc.
I got my unit and the mounting brackets that came with the unit did not fit proparly. I had to drill new holes in the brackets and fiddle around a lot to make it fit(and yes, I mounted them correctly). I have also not been able to make the steeringwheel buttons work proparly, seems to be something wrong with the canbus decoder(eonon is sending me a new one). And the Ibus app have messed with my lcm/ike even without registering the app. I have an lcm3 that I am going to replace the lcm2 with to see if it works a bit better. But so far, I am not too happy with this install, I lost my obcfuntions and steeringwheel buttons just to have a bit more musicfuntionality and navigation that I don't really use that much anyway.
Hello there! Our unit sits really rather nicely on the brackets and the steering wheel functions have never failed. Hopefully the new decoder will solve your problem. Eonon has one of the best customer services I have encountered, so I think it will all work out. The Ibus app however, is not an upgrade I would recommend for the e39.
Why don't you just upgrade the lcm its so easy and you get lots of more options to code with :) Make sure you get the right Lcm3, there is a couple different models based on if you have automatic headlight adjust or manual.
Hey Buddy! Yeah we sold it without ever having properly resolved the issue. The solution would have been to upgrade several control modules to the facelift versions. Nice to hear from you again, take care!
A real car guy knows exactly the size of his car. No need for fancy gadgets like a backup camera or a free view out of the rear not blocked by a ridiculous huge wing. Real men park by ear! Opens package... Oh nice, a free camera! okay let‘s install it... just for completion, of course... or if my girlfriend backups the car... But I swear I won’t use it! ;D
