Great video, very interesting and informative, not seen anything this in-depth before. I have a strange AC problem that I need some help with - Whenever I use the AC, water seems to build up inside matrix and cause a nasty smell that lingers for days, even weeks. I have tried various things to sanitise/refresh the system but the nasty smell and dampness always comes back. I have stopped using the AC entirely now because of this. Is there any way to check if water is getting trapped in there and drain it out without removing the entire system?

I know the video has been out a while, but I'm hoping someone out there can give me some insight. Just recently my 2005 325i started blowing cold air on the driver side vents and warm air coming out of the passenger side vents. This video gave me a nice diagram of where things are located. Has anyone had a similar issue? Could it be the motors that drive the valve doors? at 1:36 of the video, could it be one of these motors? (Any videos on how to change those out?) Thanks.

There is no distinction as far as the motors are concerned between the two sides. When a motor moves it should change both sides. If it's different for each side there is something wrong with the flapper valves inside. They are joined by shafts that are keyed so when a motor moves it moves the whole assembly. Unfortunately this is probably a case of removing the whole unit and then disassembly to find out where the issue is. The motor at 1:36 is for the footwells. One of the two motors at about 2:15 is for the front vents. It's hard to see if they are working OK as the connection points are internal.

Hey, I have exactly the same problem. I've done a fair bit of research and this problem is very uncommon. I'm thinking about changing the whole unit. Have you been able to resolve this some other way? Thanks!

@@Krcmeek Thank you guys so much for replying to my mystery. I was able to send my camera and snake it through my vents and sure enough I could see all my doors opening and closing perfectly. The doors by the cabin filter also opening and closing just fine. So Jeff was 100& correct....all the doors on the left and right open and close together. I hooked up an (AC/PRO) refrigerant pressure gauge to my AC and it was right in the middle of the "Green" area indicating my level was fine between the 25-50 green zone range. But the guy at my local auto store who had a similar issue on his car said his BMW AC ran better and cold when the gauge read closer to the "max" in the green level. So sure enough I pumped more AC/Pro refrigerant til the gauge read between 40-50 in the green zone. Now My AC runs cold out of all vents with no issues. I'ts been running good so far. I'm hopiong this simple addition of refrigerant can help solve your problems too. I initially didn't think of pumping in more refrigerant because the gauge was perfectly in the middle of the green fill zone. I'm just glad it wasnt something more complicated with my AC unit for now.

@@jeffrichardsoncardiy what do you mean by flapper valves inside? I'm trying to understand what influences the mixture of fresh air and hot air from around the heater core. My fresh air flaps open and close just fine, but the heat blows only on the right side of the car. On the left side, it blows air too, just not hot at all. That means that the flaps for the dash vents open and close on both side as well otherwise there wouldn't be any air on the left side. Thanks!

I have a problem with my automatic climate Unit. When it’s really hot outside, I have perfect cooled air coming through the body vents, but hot air coming to the feet’s and window. ( in automatic mode ) What could be wrong ?

I just fixed my car last weak. I had the same problem. Remove the aircleaning filter house and get all the space you need. The electric magnet valve (Heat control valve) behind the engine aircleaning house is not closing. Where the 2 tubes from the heater unit goes. With a cold engine, just remove the 4 screws (small torx) and lift the metallic housing. Just a tablespoon coolant will come. connect the wire and turn on and of the heater (+- degrees button) and see if the valve on the axle moves in and out, but dont start the engine!! Put some grease on the axle and without the electric cable push it in and out so it starts to go smooth. If it is connected and key is in on position it will be stuck in in or out position. You dont need to remove the whole walve and loose colant from the heater unit. Its not clogged because you have heat going to the heater unit. I did not take the big rubber gasket out, i saw no point in doing that. I also cleaned the surface before asembling, and got some debries in the colant, so i just poured some water and rinsed away the dirt. Doing like this guy is not needed, but it gives you a idea of what to expect to find... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-fpvxFqSB6-0.html Good luck! If i did this again it will take less than an hour to fix.

Excuse my bad english, my air conditioner wasn't working really cold, I recharged the gas and now it isn't blowing cold air at all, and on left side is a little cold and left side blows hot air, any idea???

Heater valve might not closing, find a hoses going into the heater radiator (Below air filter there 2 small rubber hoses), find out whether they are hot or not, replace valve if so. has same issue, replaced one myself, 10 min job. OR it could be smth else

If you pump tooo much refrigerant the system will act as if there is no refrigerant. So the AC will not blow cold AC. And if it’s randomly going in or out or It isn’t blowing cold anymore you can also try the expansion valve

Yelp, dunno if he's an expert so stop bitching. I'm not one either but: if you have these issues check gas pressures and temperature at serviceshop (low/high and condenser in/out respectively) and if ok, slide the radio & ihka control unit out plus the frame (without dismantling the dash of course). With the engine running use the up/down temp buttons to actually check if the temp mix blend* moves (the servo on low right). It moves really slooooooooowly and you can't miss it. If all of this is fine, you must have hardware box failure or a gas efficiency issue which are beyond your technical skills. Good luck. Edit: blend* : video here minute 1:45 & 10:32
