Thanks for the tutorial mate! Knocked it out on my M3 this morning. Used the heat gun to help initially but it does require patience to work the glue off.
Most excellent DIY video, sir! E46 owners around the world should watch this, my local body shop wanted $750-$900 and they asked me to leave the car for 36 hours. Ouch. PARTS: my 2004 E46 M3 Coupe (last 7 of VIN: PN56264) has matte black (aka shadowline) trim rather than the gloss black trim that you used. Parts for my silver M3 are: 51368194741 (L) and 51368194742 (R), genuine BMW. In the USA (circa 10/2023), about $61.50 each.
I tried my best with the video and its only of those jobs that you need to be patient with. Removing the old glue from the double sided tape is not easy. Wow!! They wanted to charge a lot of money for that for sure. Thanks for sharing those part numbers 👊🏾 people will find them very useful.
@@SPOOLINUP Not yet but contemplating it depending how much parts are, and if I could find a good set of instructions do so. You've definitely supplied the instructions, so thank you again mate from Australia
@reallycooluleh Any time, you are more than welcome of course. I got them for a good price from the local BMW dealer which was surprising. If you search hard enough you will find some on Ebay but not sure how easily you can get your hands on them in Australia. Good luck with it either way mate.
Just wanted to say a huge thank you. After watching your video gave me the confidence to do mine No more window noise coming from the rear 👌🏽 And looking mighty fine in shadow gloss
If you ever end up replacing the seals/weatherstripping that goes on the top/back of the rear quarter window please make sure you do a video on that as well!
@@SPOOLINUP Yeah the bottom seal is like already $200 unless I’m not looking at the right part number. For a broke college student an E46 was probably a poor choice 😂. But I can’t find the part number for the top/back one(s) do you by chance have it??
I don't have the part number for that top seal/trim but if you really need it, I could find it. The E46 isn't cheap to repair but when it is working it works very well so it's also a good choice for you in another aspect.
That would be much appreciated I checked realoem but I could've just missed something. And yeah the whole drivetrain has been incredibly reliable for me which has been awesome. I'm glad I didn't get a 335i that would've been a nightmare.@@SPOOLINUP
I appreciate your comment, im glad the video has helped you. Unfortunately, it's not the most exciting job to do but it's certainly worth it in the end. Even more worth doing on an M3!! I think you just need to set a good bit of time aside to get it done and be patient. The worst part is removing the old double-sided tape. Good luck 👍🏽
Thanks a lot dude, I need to do this on mine as mine are trashed. No idea I needed to take the bench out to do it so thanks! Seen some on eBay but think it’s just the seal so that’ll be a challenge. How much did you pay for yours from BMW?
Got for it!! It will look great once its done and save you money doing it yourself. I would just say to take your time and be patient. I think I paid about £40 - £50 from BMW. I can provide the part numbers if you need
To be honest it's a little bit of a daunting job but it looks a lot harder than it is. It is also really worth it so good luck and I hope you get it done easily 🙏🏾
Wicked man!! Whatever you do just look after it and keep it well because these are great cars if they are well maintained. Let me know how all of the jobs go.
Thanks, great, great car, I've got the black rain gutter/trim too on mine. I did the windscreen cowl and scuttle panel recently..loads more to do but enjoying it.@@SPOOLINUP
@dRew-something I like that you are doing all of these important things that people don't realise are so essential to keeping the car in good condition. I need to replace a few things so I will be hunting on ebay for those too.
It came as a complete piece, glass black plastic trim with the rubber attached. If you are in the UK then you can get the entire piece from the dealers.
The other window seal you mention at 10:15 is breaking on my 330ci too. I’ve found replacement window seals however they cost $3500 each… keen to hear if you’ve found any cheaper ones 😂
Yes man, unfortunately they are not cheap at all, which is very annoying. I wonder if they are available at a breakers year or maybe it's not a re-usable part. I might make the enquiry from BMW. Do you mean $3500 or $350?
I’ve asked about second hand parts from a wrecker and been told they aren’t reusable. I’m in Australia and haven’t found any after market parts either… only OEM from BMW. They cost $3500 AUD each and I need two haha.
@The..Mechanic I suspected you wouldn't be able to use them again. Its a shame, they are just too expensive and there is a market for them on these older cars. It's just a trim and a seal, maybe on some of the E46 forums and pages there might be some more helpful advice.
My two cars are also an E46, 330CI, and a MK4, Jetta GLS, wagon with the 1.8T. Your channel is tailor-made for me, haha. You need to pick up a 2nd gen Dodge Dakota V6 as a beater truck, and we can fully be twins.
Wicked man, you have very good taste in cars then by the sounds of it. I'm not even sure I can get one of those trucks so easily here but I'm going to have a look at one now just to see. I would like a truck though@@taaayll
