BMW E46 TURBO BUILD: START TO FINISH IN 15 MINUTES |

The BMW E46 turbo drift car build is pretty much complete, which means we have to mark the completion with a 15 minute compilation of the entire build from start to finish! It's been an amazing journey with many lessons learned, experience gained, and a car that is an utter blast to drive, even with such low horsepower.
The turbo "kit" is comprised of a Maxpeedingrods "Ebay" Gt3076 .82 a/r and cast bottom mount log manifold, AEM 340 LPH, Bosch Gt2 injectors, PMAS HPX MAF, and Tial 44mm wastegate amongst other mods.
The car is tuned by yours truly using the stock MS43 DME.

@@oidoubleu nobody puts twins on them because it makes very little difference, they spin up a single faster than a 2zj if tune it right, due to better flow and vvt, also you can’t top mount twins and bottom mount is inferior

I bought a BMW E90 320i LCI model and it's on finance . Was 16.500 but all up will be paying 30.000$ and it's the most guttless car IV ever had and for the price I'm paying I can't let it go esle I loose more money the plan is to do a Engine swap next would be perfect if it had more power ... Car sounds amazing! I also have a 330i pushing 425HP. Your car sounds so good when it spoils up and goes into boost. Is this because you are not running wastegate to atmosphere?

Thanks! The fact that there’s no loud wastegate definitely helps. It also helps to put a microphone in the engine bay lol

i did this to my e36 328i cabriolet, even used the same injectors, it was the tune or the lack of people who could tune that stopped me, it did run and boost well, but ended up selling it for an M5 instead wich is now supercharged, lovely build man! brought back lots of memories

Surround yourself with people that are trying to do the same thing, or are slightly ahead of you. Otherwise, lurk the forums/facebook groups and learn from there, then wrench on your own projects as much as you can. Remember, whatever build it is, keep it simple. Don't overbuild.

M54 is way cheaper than the s54 and more plentiful (my car is originally non m. The most I’ll ever need for non competitive driving is 500hp. Hell I can barely justify going more than 350

OZ Mitos? Or reps? Look good on the e46 chassis either way. Smart man for running the m50/ s50 mani. M54 one is trash. Too much nonsense strapped to the m54, DISA valve, and all that crap are such common failures. NV M50 is my favorite long block to build. All forged internals, no vanos to screw around with, etc. Extremely basic and cheap as hell if you blow it up. I built a few on MS with a cometic/ ARP's and they held together well. Dynoed well over 500whp. Nice job dude. Looks good, sounds nice too. 👍

I have a google sheets in the description with hyperlinks and cost breakdown. Should be good for 350ish whp for the turbo I used, or 4-500 with a gt35. Tune is super important and keep in mind, the rear end on these cars are weak.

Hey, Great Build and enjoyed the 15 minutes. I built this supercharged e39 a couple years ago, ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-wZMkXASRCNw.html and now have another E39 525i that I picked up for 800.00. I built a .040 over M54B30 for it and its running good, self tuned and my daily driver. Have the M50 intake manifold and M56 Valve cover conversion. Looking for info/advice on your bottom mount T-manifold for another induction build on this setup. Seems like the T-Manifold would work but any pointers would be welcome. Thanks in advance.

your inlet /outlet of the turbo should not be horizontally orientated. They should be as vertical as possible, if not you'll flood the casing and burn the oil with the lack of flow. I don't remember the tolerances, but within 20deg would be fine.

While I agree, many E46 bottom mount folks run aggressive CHRA angles for oil feed clearance and correct drain design. It's just something we have to deal with unfortunately.

Why do you cut the exhaust manifold in parts before you grind it smooth?

The theory is that the cuts will help prevent cracks/warping in the manifold. I have the tools to do it, so I figured why not.

For that sort of application, I do not. 10k rpm is a tough, money intensive task to achieve, even with the S54. Why do you want 10k rpm?

@@paulking8395 With the technology nowadays, you can absolutely get the right turbo setup and have a smooth powerband. I'd argue that getting an M54 to 10k rpm is 10 times more complicated than just going turbo.

Never dyno tested it, but I’d say it’s around 300whp.
