Compliments to you for handling the whole job yourself, only thing I would have done different is replaced the famous hydraulic valve lifter tick while your at it
This isn't as complicated as it looks intimidating. This is the only car I would consider replacing the head gasket on. It's pretty user friendly & not allot in the way of getting to those point. Some engines have too much junk over the engine that you have to remove before you can even consider starting on removing the valve cover. This is EASY. But only for this car. Not sure about others.
Definitely not as bad as I thought it would be. Ive been dreading this for almost a year now when I broke a spark plug in the head and the mechanic wanted about $7000 to remove the head and drill the plug out but it doesnt look too bad to do myself. A lot less work than my frontier's head gaskets. That was the stuff of nightmares.
@@MrLildeg8you’re probably talking about your valve cover leaking the head gasket doesn’t get a “small leak” it blows due to heat and pressure and seeps coolant into your oil passages and destroys your engine by thinning out your oil until irreversible damage is done
It's crazy you did a workshop job that would cost more than 2000 usd on your own backyard garage. Respect Brother. Most people don't have the balls to open their own engine, let alone handle timing and correct torque specs.
Very Nice Video. But can u Maybe explain How u knew How do put on the vanos wheels? Do they have Marks on them or something like that ? Thank you very much 👍🏻
@@dakotawright9781 after looking, that darker color is the magnesium casing around the Aluminum open deck. It stays. I’m doing mine hopefully his weekend. Just carefully clean the gasket residue.
It's extremely easy to do & learn for THIS car. Other cars are a bit more complex. N52 is a user friendly engine that any noob into cars can learn to restore & maintain themselves.
Great video! I enjoyed it. Would be cool to post torque specs but im sure i can find them. Also missed the timing aspect of things, it went too fast, would be good to see what you did and process.
I’ve got a 2013 xdrive 35i X5 ,I put recommended amount of oil in at oil change. I did not account for possible residual oil let in the engine, long story short,I developed an oil leak shortly after and believe I blow my head gasket. Sound about right? What can I expect in terms of rebuild hours?
I agree, I was also wondering about that. When my N52 waterpump went out, it shut off once it detected overheating and wouldn't let me drive at all until it cooled down.
Would replacing the water pump be easier when head of engine is off for head gasket replacement? Just thinking whether i should just get it done then if its any easier because I know its not a pleasant job due to cramped space.
Very nice job. It’s a lot of works but you save a lot of money. What usually goes in the electric water pump is the electronics, at around 80k km they start to fail. Saludos from Argentina 🇦🇷
