BMW Exhaust System Mods for Performance 

WOW. This man is a GOD i actually have a 1998 540iA E39 and i have so many horsepower issues. Replaced so many pieces: cats, PCV, sparks, coils, camshaft sensor, some vaccum leaks etc but it's still amazing how the power is going up and down. Theses cars are WTF complicated. Thank you very much for your video E39 38 31 for life !!!

I have the v8 engine and 6 speed box in my little e30. I just got thr car back from the fabricator 2 days ago after having him make me a pair of 4-2-1 stainless manifolds, 2.5 inch down pipes, Y pipe into single 3 inch system with 2 tail pipes... The reason I went slightly bigger is because I'm supercharging it soon. No cats, no middle box, just a small back box and my God it sounds absolutely INCREDIBLE

Great video & very well explained, thank you. I’m going to make changes to my 2006 E53 X5 4.4L exhaust system. I’m lucky that my engine (220,000km) has been well looked after & since I’ve had it I service the oil every 10,000km. I never had smoke blow by, never had timing chain issues now any bits of metal or plastic in the oil filter/ oil changes. I did have rear main seal & rocker cover leaks (minor) & saw your video about putting a washer under the nut to add pressure, but I found another solution that fixed ALL oil leaks cheap, easy & haven’t had any problems since. I put 1.5 bottles of AT-205 additive in the oil. It conditions all gaskets, plastics & rubber, swelling them back to near new condition. It rehydrates the valve stem seals & timing chain plastic tensioner foot too it seems. Plus there’s no particles to ‘block’ oil Chanel’s etc, it’s just a liquid like the oil itself. I’m not selling snake oil, I’m not here to promote or sell it, I’m just saying I used it after watching some fantastic tests on RU-vid to see if it was ok & it turned out even better than I expected. It can be used in natural or synthetic oil, gearboxes, diffs & cooling systems to rehydrate plastics, rubbers etc. Maybe check it out Tim? I hope it helps you & your viewers if you ever want to or need to use it. Haha I feel like I’m advertising & should get paid for this 😂… no, just a bloke blown away by a product that really worked. Honestly.. a 3.15 diff, free flowing exhaust and a throttle body from an n62 and 4in MAF… sounds like the N/A route to go

Great content as always! Im thinking of changing my exhaust system with magnaflow cats and exhaust, would you recomend changing the resonator into an x-pipe or h-pipe like yours? My goal is to get a little more throaty grunt in my exhaust as I step on the gas. It's as quiet as a mouse with its stock exhaust

Hey Timm Having issues I can’t message you on bmw forum As am new on there E38 running rough since last summer. The car runs rough and shakes It is a show car / weekend car so just this week got time to fix it. Thought it would be something small but I was wrong Replaced: OEM coils NGK plugs OEM Cam position sensors It’s had a full over haul on the cooling chain guide vanos units most of the car has been replaced by oem parts about 1000 miles ago Took out the 3-4 ignition coils while running and didn’t make any difference showing they are not working Checked all wires to the dme unit no cuts no burns Dme is dry and connections clean and dry no corrosion Could it be the dme unit internally ?

I didn't know there was a "sport" CAT converter. So, the sport CAT gave you the performance gain and sport muffler gave you the sound you wanted? Good info to know.

Just get an e39 540i ;) standard with 3:15 diff in the autos already a 6 second car. Im surprised that the 8 series is slower, happy to learn new things, but odd choice from BMW, Love your vids Tim cheers

i've heard headers will give big improvements and a bigger throttle body, its all that's needed really then a remap ofc then your set, if you wanna go all in you need to take apart the motor and add more strenght to the springs so you can rev higher and hone valves

3.24 that just looks like a piece for rigidness to me not an H pipe, i think the pipe is behind the flat piece

Ooo.. bit of oil under there. Anyway, I have an X5 4.4 M62. I’ve been thinking of removing the centre resonator and installing straight pipes with a H pipe. What do you think? And I want a similar sound to yours.

Does going from the M62TU (with pre-cats) exhaust manifold to the M62 (without pre-cats) exhaust manifold increase horsepower?
