Great video and yes, the manufacturers only recommend those thin oils because it helps achieve good fuel economy. Twin turbos, lots of power per liter of displacement and high heat asks a lot of oil. A good 5W40 with a high flash point does these motors wonders.
Whenever I change my car's oil i like to get 1 quart of the cheapest oil I can get and run it through my engine not starting the car to get some of the old stuff out.
i love how the new filters are easy to access at the top now. not sure which design is actually better for the engine performance, but the top mounted oil filters make it easier for us DIYs.
I know that you know way more than me about these cars, but I asked liqui moly and they said this oil isn't compatible with out cars and might increase wear because it doesn't meet the BMW longlife-01 fe that our 550s need. So idk what to do now, because I wanted to use the oil but they said otherwise.
For those looking for instructions for X6 50i N63first revision It kind of works the same but there is metal shield that does not allow to access oil plug that simple. You have to unscrew 5-6 bolts and detach shield and afterwards the same stuff as on the vid.
BTW, 2 years+ using Liqui green Molygen no oil consumption, engine is fine, the other day saw purple can for +$13 more each (5L) is it worth it?? Liqui Moly Synthoil Longtime 0W-30
can we use Liqui Moly 2332 Leichtlauf High Tech 5W-40 Engine Oil with ceratec ? instead of molygen ? is there a difference in the oils that u use vs leichtlauf?
Hi mate I know this was 7 years ago but am lucky enough to finally own my dream m5 so thought a week into ownership I will give the big girl some nice new blood/oil lol so done everything as you did but used a different oil filter tool and it slipped and I think I have broken a sensor or something because when I filled the car back up and put the front end back down it has trouble starting and I have engine management light on plus a break fault plus a traction fault and drivetrain fault what could I have done thanks hope you see this
To make the oil change even easier, get a Fumoto oil drain valve. Getting all the old oil out is thwarted somewhat by the half quart or so that remains in the oil cooler.
Hey there, where have you been? LOL I thought you were going to grow the channel. It seems like you’ve left and gone to where humans don’t exist LOL seriously, when do you think you’ll put out another video? I have a 550i GT with 64,000 km on it and thoroughly enjoy watching your videos as they are very helpful.
Hi, I just bought a 2011 550i and wanted to start working on the mods. The link for the strut bar isn't working and couldn't find the same one you have. I'll be greatly appreciated if you can send a new link or let me know where you got it from. learned a lot from from your videos, keep it up. thanks.
You Sir, are god sent...greetings from a fellow Floridian (305); living in Cali. Same car here just coming from an F13 N55 to this "beast" of a machine ('16 550i). A bit scared of the engine at first (previous generations' horror stories), but took a leap of faith; since it was an old-person's lease return with 26k mi. (so no hard driving). Doing my first oil change here, as am about to hit 30k mi. and not willing to pay ~$300 oil change (YES...that much...Cali prices); so this video came in at a perfect time. Please keep the videos coming Sir...you now have a new subscriber.
Hello! Do I need to flush my engine if I switch to using the fully synthetic LiquiMoly? Currently using 5W-30. I live in TN and would like to switch to 5W-40. I have a 2013 550i M sport.
Yep! I did the flush and changed the oil to 5w40 and have noticed a great improvement. :] changing out my crankcase ventilation hoses next weekend and hope to DIY the cold air intake. Definitely appreciate your channel!
Fellow Floridian here, Such a well presented video with all the details needed so I had this video saved in favs. I too agree using a thicker oil like 5w40 on my G12 750ix. I used Euro formula Castrol edge titanium, and it runs great as well.
Anyone else notice so many of the how to's / product descriptions say something is quarts, but all these bottles are 1 or 5 liter bottles? If it's marked as a 5 liter bottle with no label by the lines, I would assume each mark is 1 liter, not 1 quart.
Can u pls tell me if change the engine air filter same as X6 m 2014 thanks I just bo the car used but want to check if the engine filter is dirty but I have a rough time figure out how to remove the plastic cover
How do you get your car to actually measure your oil? Nine shows the min max on the right but it won’t give me an option to actually measure it like you did. Mines a 2012
Total bullshit ...thin oil or thick oil, is only during the first 5 minutes ... always use oil specs recomended by manufacturer, dont use because , "i drive to strong" "oh the weather is hot" ... bullshit, use recomended oil ... temperature wise (ex 5w30) or specs by man (ex LL04) ... is you use the car too hard, change the oil more times ... that easy ... the rest is bullshit
@@TeeBee-qz3wy manufacturer recommendation my friend, the engine was made for that oil, if you change engine components that other story, but even for a heavy tunned engine oil recommended by manufacturer... Of course if you make the engine faster but less durable... Go for it
@@gafrancisco what a load of crap. If we go by BMW recommendations the engine wouldn’t last 6 months from factory. You do know the history of these motors right? I haven’t owned two for no reason. Also haven’t been a mechanic for 17 for the sake of being one.
@@gafrancisco you must be 14 years of age to think that the recommended engine oil from factory is always suitable for cars with a long list of engine issues. Reckon the brain requires a tune up.
Joseph Amen some filter covers have a bolt to drain the filter before removing it. If your filter cover has that bolt, that’s where the o-ring would go.
Look at the API website and that gives the category of Oil for cars and the most recent Spec which they have tested to... BMW would have an API CODE Spec on that list...so once an oil meets that spec your good to go the most modern spec from API is backwards compatible www.api.org/products-and-services/engine-oil/eolcs-categories-and-classifications/oil-categories#tab-gasoline
I just did my oil change on 2013 550i I had 3500 miles to go I can tell you now BMW is bull shitting people with 11k miles and 15k miles oil changes. When I took that oil out it was dark. I use Liqui Molly you are 100% correct when you said engine sounds better. Thanks
I ALWAYS add a 12oz bottle of the amazing "Prolong" additive to the engine oil. Amazing what Prolong can do and has proven to do to engine ware for the past 25+ yrs!
I’m not sure, Liquid Moly says no additives are needed when using Molygen as it has additives already in the oil. You would have to contact LiquiMoly for diesel questions.
