15:50 - In addition to 30 mm bar risers, you can also buy tall bar risers that also move the handlebars back so you won't need to lean forward as much. I installed 30 mm straight bar risers because even though I'm tall, I also have freakishly long arms. What did help when standing is Pivot Pegz. They're way better than the thin pegs supplied by BMW. Based on this video, you could definitely benefit if BMW sold a G310GS Adventure with a proper aluminum bash plate, engine protection bars, tubeless spoke wheels, etc. BMW won't offer that bike because too many people would rather buy that lighter more off road capable $7500 bike than an 800, 900, or 1300 cc adventure bike for $10K to $22K. The BMW Motorrad chief executive was recently asked and said there would be no GS between the 310 and the 750/850, probably for the same reason. They don't want to spend money creating a new bike that detracts from the sales of their more expensive bikes. They're thinking like business executives maximizing profit across a product line. That maximizes profit this quarter, and next, but long term, they really need to be selling customers what we want if they want to be selling motorcycles for another hundred years. 450 to 500 cc has great potential for a real ADV bike but so far nobody has done it right - low weight and very off road capable. A single cylinder bike in the 450-500 cc range has the potential to cruise more comfortably on the highway and still be light enough to tackle serious off road. So far, most of the offerings were street bikes with some off road styling (without substance), with the occasional large thumper dual sport. Nobody has designed a lightweight off road capable ADV bike with nice road manners, despite the huge market demand. I guess that would take more effort and cost more than making an entry level street bike look a little more like a dirt bike.

I actually never thought of it like that I mean it makes sense. If it were my company I would definitely keep with what’s making me money. And after reading this I’m getting those bar risers to get those bars closer to me! I was actually just riding today and paid attention to how much my back was arched because of how far the bars were away from me. Thank you for the suggestion!

@@advbrain9967 - The extra 30 mm of bar height made a big difference in riding comfort, mostly when standing on long day rides where we'll ride 60 MPH on country roads then slow to 35 MPH when riding through small towns, which is a great time to stand and stretch. BMW did a good job of optimizing the G310GS for most riders. They must have vast institutional knowledge of rider ergonomics. However, the G310GS is somewhat skewed toward smaller riders because BMW clearly intended the baby GS for younger riders, women riders (an aspiration accessory for the husband's 1250GS) and the Asian market. Another 30 mm of bar height also helps with fairing clearance when handlebar mounting cell phones, GPS, GoPro cameras, etc.

Right now I am thinking about the Honda Transalp, it is coming in at $9,999.00 US. I also have a Royal Enfield Himalayan which was great to learn on (on and offroad). I also think about the 310GS because I do like light small adv bikes. Cheers!

Yes. Small adv bike are great but that Honda transalp is a pretty cool bike. Tough decisions. I do love the 310 BUT I would at least go and test ride the Honda and then make you choice

I looked at the BMW F850 GS new was 15-16k. Gs750 used 3 years old was 12k. I can get a brand new out the door Transalp or Tenere 700 for about 11,500 out the door. I did look at the Ibex and it was nice and had cruise control for about 10 but the seat was so wide my hips didn't like it.

Yeah that’s the downside with the BMW line up $$$. I know triumph is also expensive but I was looking at a 22’ tiger 900 with 5k miles for 11,900. Very nice bike and very comfortable

I got my gs 310 2 days back.. really happy riding the same.. few things maybe before 1st service engine knocking sometimes.. what should be taken care during engine break in..
@advbrain9967
@advbrain9967 Год назад
I believe the break in period is 600 miles? Anyways, I tried hard to keep it under 6000rpm. I know that’s hard to do with this bike. And for the engine knocking depending on how bad it is I’d take it back to the dealer just to make sure

How is this a game changer or a shakeup? This is just a refresh on the 3 middleweights BMW already sells.

Hello. The places are simply amazing 😊. I love to ride a motorcycle off-road. Also love mountains. I am thinking about buying a G310GS. I'm from Ukraine. Unfortunately, we cannot ride and travel a lot now, because the russians are constantly attacking our country, killing our people, and completely destroying our cities 😢
