It saddens me the fact that we will probably never see an analogue BMW cluster ever again. From the iconic classic orange cluster to the newer white clusters they will never be forgotten.

I’m glad mine didn’t come with Live Cockpit, looks far too confusing and in my opinion too off putting, I’m worried with way cars are heading (electric in particular) that there are too many distractions on the dash which could be dangerous.

I have the live cockpit on my 128ti and I much prefer it to be honest. Its far more customisable with more displays (e.g. Spotify song title and graphics) and after a week or so its not as confusing to use. I also prefer the analogue looking fuel and temp gauges as oppose to the digital dots. And lets not forget it also comes with the larger central display so a win-win. I will agree that the reverse rev counter is a drag, but then its something BMW could easily amend in future firmware upgrades.

Thanks for the vid!!! No one seems to talk about this but at the end it is roughly 3 grant on top! I've order mine without LiveCockpit, ordered glas rooftop and sport seating instead and still saved 1.5 grant. Bit too much for gadget I would say ;-)

Bro, fully agree with you, it's a shame that BMW dropped the beggar display version. A couple of weeks back I test drove the 128Ti with the live cockpit, and it was WAY too busy for me, too much ongoing on and that really distracts from the driving. The car itself drives nicely though, but the engine feels a little tame compared to my Stage 2 Mk7. But maybe that's not a fair comparison.. ;-)

I ordered mine without live cockpit professional, but been told my car will now come with it. I don’t have to pay the difference as I never specced it on my order. I was told the reason for the forced upgrade is that BMW have run out of the parts for the standard dials. Make of that what you will.

The "Halbleiter" that is required for the Black Panel Gen2 is no more being produced, the F20 LCI Black Panel was much nicer anyways with the flat screen, this new standard cluster looked cheap and bad anyways with the seperated screen levels/layers between the dials and the center screen.

There are chip shortages at the moment affecting all car manufacturers. That's probably why BMW have made the decision to discontinue the analog cluster.

@@KallumWoodhams it’s waiting at the dealer for me. They are holding it until June 28th when my current Golf GTI lease ends. They send me a video of it, it has the fully digital dials.

I too prefer analogue dials but in this 1-series i feel the Professional Live digital is much nicer even if not perfect as the analogue dials look cheaply stuck-on top of a basic low-res small digital screen - not premium looking at all! And the non-round hexagonal frame with the non-precise fuel gauge looks terrible! I really did like the last-gen analogue dials - neat, easy to read & clear.

Also, I was advised by a BMW owning neighbour to invest in a steering lock. His was broken into recently and there have been a spate of BMWs broken into. The thieves are after the steering wheels and infotainment systems. Getting my lock tomorrow, having seen photos of damage caused I want a deterrent for these scum bags.

Good shout. I’m doing research on potentially getting a ghost immobiliser fitted for mine. Those type of crimes only happen in major cities. I once saw in London some scumbags broke into a BMW M4 and literally nicked the idrive system and steering wheel. Also you are more at risk of getting your car nicked if you have spec your car with comfort access also this is only a recommendation what I tend to do is I put my keys into a metal tin and microwave if you have one.

Everyone shitting on this has never driven any of the new BMW cars. I was the same ykno I also thought that the new panels were absolutely disgusting and it lacks the cockpit feeling. But after driving one I changed my mind. I wouldnt want it any other way now.

A few months ago I have rented a BMW 118i with the new live cockpit instrument clusters. And more recently I have rented a Peugeot 208 with the same kind of reverse instrument clusters. It's nearly impossible to read. I cannot understand why BMW and Peugeot have chosen such stupid reverse instrument clusters.

Thanks for doing a comparison between the Live Cockpit Pro and Plus. Should I ask my dealer for a refund if they delivered me a car spec with Live Cockpit Pro but the car end up having Live Cockpit Plus (paid $900 USD for an option that did not end up in the car)? I already paid for the Premium Package and its absurd they charged me extra for it. Are there other menu options that can be shown from BC other than mileage, MPG, media, sport display, G meter? Like calendar, recent directions, tire temp?

I just changed my car from the analogue to the digital, i must admit I preferred the analogue display, my husband prefers the digital, the tiny fuel gauge is hardly worth having 😢

Same car, tiny details that change a lot. I was a bit confused in the beginning with the live cockpit ( I saw it before on other BMW’s but for a short drive only), now that I have 2.000 kilometers with my 128ti, I really like that design and all the information that is visible. Is it a more value? In my opinion not really, but hey, it’s cool and moving on in the future of the automotive... 😎

Yeah agree with it is a cool move for the future, they could’ve designed the motion graphic for the (Rev counter) slightly different. For example they could’ve kept the same shape both sides but reversed the numbers so they run “clockwise” also kept the middle section clean out from factory. Then the consumer has a choice to customise it within the idrive system if they want. Regarding the cost if you remove something off the options list where it is free to replace it with a paid option I’m sorry but I don’t agree with that. Again thanks for the video’s 😀👊🏼👍🏼

Hit me up if you need anything for content. As you know I’ve got basically the same 128ti as you but I’m about to trade mine in for a factory built one with every pack and add on, partly because BMW fucked us with the price going lower with more packs as standard. So my new one has Live Cockpit Pro with the dials and bigger screen, but I’ve also just got an M340i and the live cockpit pro dials are actually quite a bit different with newer versions etc.

This is terrible. I’ve only started looking at the 128ti and hoped it came with a digital display because I was imagining something like the Audi, but now I’ve seen what BMW have done I’m really disappointed.

@@maysanounif2095 nowadays it doesn’t really matter which ever size you go for specific specs open up specific hidden windows within the idrive system. Both sizes get built with the same software the only thing that changes is the specific option that you spec from factory BMW hides or un-hides that menu within the idrive system if you go for the smaller screen vs the bigger screen.
