Glad someone is trying to come up with new accessories for the i3. Did you make the iPhone holder for yourself only or were you thinking of making it a product to sell. The iPhone holder is great but if you’re intent is to make it a product to resell, it looks like you’ve got to buy that Belkin adapter. The problem with that is that it’s a pretty specific thing to buy and also it doesn’t have power so you can’t really wirelessly charge your phone. You still have to plug your phone in. In terms of ideas for the other accessory plug for the center console, I have 3 ideas. 1. A simple 3D printed panel to cover that hole center console area which is exposed. I really don’t put anything in that center console because people can see what I have in there and it could tempt them to break in. 2. Similar to the cover, a simple flat panel that could be a wireless charging space for phones. You’ve got the power sources in the center console already 3. A combination of both 1 and 2!
I did make it specifically for my iPhone however if other people want it I don’t mind making them for people. I am planning to have electric everything store. The reason why I did not want a wireless charger there is because I plug into my CarPlay and that charges it. I did not want to do wireless CarPlay because it kept connecting to my car even when I was not in the car. So I only wanted to do the wired connection and that does have a charger. As far as your suggestions for the center council, I think they’re absolutely great. In the center consul having a wireless charging pad I think is a terrific idea and a way to cover up what’s in there. So far I think that’s the best idea I’ve heard yet. Thank you!
@@lavalabs Hey the link doesn't work, may i ask you to send me or sell it to me the iphone stand, or the other accessories (the design file for 3d printer) ? I have the 3d Printer.
My dog may be tiny, but she destroyed my rear/truncó with her hair. Had my i3 over a year. Home charging. Love it. Anyone who doesn’t know go grad the Tesla adapter!!! Complete life saver to have that in the car! Can’t use at superchargers, but Tesla destinations are fantastic for a quick charge.
Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts and experience with this car. I recently got a Chevy spark and looking to switch because it doesn't have fast charging and you've sold me on this bmw i3 and I can't wait to get it 😁😁
@@lavalabs I wonder, have you ever had an issue with the battery? We're getting a message that says something about battery fault/error... I hope it's nothing big.
For the question as to what to do with the accessory hook in the center console: I'm a drone guy, and fly both DJI for work, and hobby grade freestyle quads for fun. I've designed holders for the different chargers I use, that in turn plug into the 12V socket, so I can charge on my way to a job or to hang out with the bois. Cable management is easy - a 20mm slot lets me route a velcro strap. If I'm gonna work _and_ play, I can put one charger in the back of the console, one hanging on the front, and they'll each have their own 12V socket. Another idea for you, mate - next time your Dad is there, ask him to bring his orbital palm sander. Take the sanding pad/paper off, and place it on the part of the floor you want to clean. Vacuum in hand, turn that sucker on, and watch the dirt magically release itself from the floor and levitate in the air. The first time I saw this I lost it. Also, a good ole microfiber cloth is fantastic at releasing doggo floof hair; a bag of them is super cheap on Amazon and can be de-floofed with the brush you showed as #1 accessory.
I have a mous magnetic charging plate fixed to a brodit clip just under the middle dash. The cable tucks nicely underneath. Mous case for the phone and it sits beautiful portrait or landscape charging wirelessly.
My i3 is 2014 and I Installed the CarPlay myself. It's relatively easy to do and there are a couple of really good videos on RU-vid. There was one caveat that I mentioned in this video about running the cable but besides that it's pretty easy. Now it feels like I'm driving an Apple car.
Thanks Chris, i’m actually on family vacation but when I’m back I do plan on making a few of these. I will link in a description below how to get it. Or feel free to send me an email at contactus@lavalabs.com to reserve one.
Thanks Ah, it’s actually not a wireless charger in my i3. I am just using the 3d printed accessory to hold my iPhone using MagSafe. I use CarPlay to charge with a wire.
Every home charger in the UK does 7 kWh. I've never had to use an expensive outside charger. Edit newer cars have wireless apple car play. If you have an android phone it also works wit Alexa wireless but it's a bit rubbish.
So you mean 7kW of power not 7kWh? If so you guys are lucky. On a normal charger we get 1.5 kW. That’s why upgrading to 30Amp line to get 7-8kW is awesome in US.
Screen hack. Is there a specific reason that I am missing when it comes to the screen hack? Every brand or company I find that sells them stops at 2017 models. I have a 2019. Thank you for taking time in reading these RFIs (requests for information).
Hi Oidnito1, I am not sure what your asking about here. Are you talking about the secret menu on i3 or CarPlay? What is the screen hack your referring to?
Funny thing is your dog doesn't seem to have a lot of hair. These hacks are great. I have yet to buy an i3, but doing a lot of research right now and your video was really different to the ones I've been watching. What if I am an Android user with my phone, I do own an ipad, but my phone is Android, a Samsung Galaxy. Would the Apple Play and conversion work with Android?
I’m planning to buy a 2018 bmw i3 and I saw your video. Brilliant with your CarPlay modification, however I see website stating that bmw i series have CarPlay already?
I think the newer ones like 2018 do have CarPlay included. However older ones definitely do not have it. The one we have is 2014 and it did not have originally.
I have a bmw i3 2019 and it comes with carplay. Also the Harman Kardon speakers are actually crazy good! They must be bad in the older versions though. My speakers are the best i’ve heard in any car i’ve been in!! I love them and always use them om max volume😅. If you use the equalizer in bmw settings you can for example turn up the bass and it is so good. I cant say it enough, the speakers are the best!!! Really!!!
And mine goes 186 miles or 300 kilometers in range with good temperatures outside (summertime in Norway) so the range is also very good. I’vehad it for a while. Its a very good electrical vehicle, my recommendation is that you really sjould buy one!!
Disagree with the quality of the h/k system. If set up properly, it’s actually very impressive. Depends on music style of course. If one is into subwoofer dominance, then it certainly lacks something.
I will never understand people who charge iphones and cars only when they are low on battery. I charge everything every night and can't even remember when I had last time battery anxiety about anything. 😊
Thanks JJ, I am planning on having electric everything store very soon and I will add a link to this video. For now if you or anyone wants the iPhone adaptor or cup holder send me an e-mail. I can send the STL file to 3D print it. contactus@lavalabs.com
Make something that would hold a tablet. I ride around with a tablet that I need for work. Would be nice if I had a place to hold it so I can use the map app and dictate notes and not try to hold it in my lap
