The best review on this car by one of the best reviewers. I like the contrast with most other commentators who sound like marketing messages. Sometimes, you sound a bit like rambling on, filling time with a few repetitions; but the sum of it still is the best the net has to offer. Great job!

This is your best review, please keep them going! I have a 2014 550xi and and have custom cold air intakes, Evolutionary Race werk down pipes, and cat back M5 competition exhaust and I wake my neighbors up when I start my car. Love the twin turbo V8. but some times I like to keep it low volume. I will definitely look into this car because of your review.

Thank you for another great review! Fully agree on interior materials, would love to see manufacturers offer more textile options as well, instead of just leather and fake leather. The right cloth seats can really give the interior a more welcoming feel and are more comfortable in both hot and cold weather.

This comment comes 4 years late, but I had to type it anyway: I believe the extra capacity fuel tank 'option' is due to some regulatory trickery, allowing them to set all the official data for the cars with the lower capacity tanks but then basically sell all their cars with the larger capacity tank. I'm not sure what are all the effects of having a smaller capacity tank, but at least the car's weight I believe is calculated with the tank filled to a certain percentage, so a smaller capacity tank gives the car a slightly higher allowed useful load.

Well, I honestly wonder how reliable the combustion engine could be because, while you are driving purely electric the combustion engine will cool down and then suddenly you decide to hammer the throttle and then the combustion engine will do a cold start revving quite high.

I have had 3 i8s own £4k mile Roadster. In 2021 Autotrader had 234 coupes and 67 Roadsters - in Feb 23 just 123 coupes and 20 ROADSTERS. when they get to 6 or 7 cars values skyrocket just like my SLS, Z8, CLS, 996.1 gt3 did....get one now while just over half retail as they'll be back at retail in 5-6 years and twice retail in 10-15 years !

electric sportcars/supercars are not selling well. and that's why i expect this thing will stop its production sooner or later. just like the new Acura NSX. nobody cares... in contrast, some people would rather pick the not so new Nissan GT-R.

A nice hipster Sportscar but 155.000 - 172.000 Euro is definitely too much for a car like this!!! For 172.000 Euro you don't want a small 231hp 3 cylinder engine with Fakesound...

Yes Thomas ,I would like a FULL electric BMW i8 ,not just hybrid.A hybrid is just an interim solution ,40 km is just not enough range .So make it a FULL EV BMW ,please! Great video Thomas ,as usual ,keep it up!

yeah, that would be great. With min. 400km Range (WLTP) 22kW AC + 100kW DC Charging. Two (or even four?) Electric Motors with around 400hp combined . ;)) That would be a cool Electric Sports car.

Car still looks really modern but color featured doesn't suit it well. Dash/cabin is ageing nicely though. I'm sure BMW may have tried to design a folding hard top but splitting them in two could have created leakage problems. For a back up 3-cylinder turbo motor it sure sounds sweet even artificially. Awkward way to climb out.. a prerequisite of most super/hypercars. Read BMW would discontinue i3 and i8 and would be making a Full EV class ( i4 EV ). Top relax review Thomas.

(getting in & out of the f*****g thing alone would be a nightmare for me so I'll have to have something else which is a great pity because in every other way I think it's fab).

Fantastic review! BMW still manage to maintain their “DNA” in every car they make. Never fail. Whilst the i8 Roadster is not an everyday driver, it most certainly is a great summer car, if one has, as you pointed out at the end, the disposable income 🙂. I agree with your idea that it would be great as an all-⚡️ 🚘 . To be able to drive it about the beautiful countryside in near silence and maximum sustainably would be awesome! Enjoying the winding roads as well as the sights and sounds through countryside.

Thomas..... BMW should have to pay 'danger money' for the horrible ingress and egress of the i8. Surprisingly you have a better go it it being tall (mind the windshield frame - ouch) . Poor Brian would never have stood a chance - it would be similar to falling / climbing out of a tub.

Still looks like it's giving birth to a 911 xD It's a cool car, but the wheels are hideous and the design is a bit to over the top for my taste. The rear "floating shoulders" doesn't really add anything except spectacular lines - that are extreme JUST around the upper rear part. The front, on the other hand, is very timid looking. So... Nope.

It does seem like one should be able to "Delete" fake engine sound from their vehicle or just turn it off even in Sport mode.. My concern is that the sound might distract from actual road noise... But I still want this car. I've heard in another owner's review that the trunk can melt things like flippers, food or chocolate from the heat of the engine. Maybe they will fix this or just through in a 4 cylinder engine like they're other hybrids. FYI an easy conversion I use to interpret Fahrenheit to Celsius is that 82F is approximately 28C.

Does the i8 still have cheesy engine sounds coming from it's sound system? No need for mish mash overcomplicated hybrid cars anymore. I'm waiting for the no-nonsense Tesla Roadster 0-60 mph in 1.9 sec, range on one charge = 1000 km.

All looks and no performance to match the astronomical asking price. Couple that to BMW's questionable reliability and you have the i8 roadster. I won't be surprised to see this roadster drastically depreciate in value like it's coupe predecessor.

Decided to watch this after watching your challenge to the CEOs (for some light relief - I was in tears after watching the plight of those poor cows), it occurred to me that like the role for hybrids could be a transitionary strategy for Cities on a global basis? It reduces emissions where the problem is worst and introduces people to the role of electricity in transport. May I also urge you to search the Dutch Architect who has worked out how our cities could look like after car parks are repurposed in the event that mobility becomes a reality.

How in the hell do they get a four-cylinder to go that fast lol the technology is crazy in these cars I had a Mazda 6 it only had a 1.5 l four cylinder and that thing would fly I have a Kia Rio 5 now and it has a little motor like that and that thing will get on down the road pretty good for what it is, it would outrun my V8 in my Dodge ram . I'm very interested in how they make them go so fast without turbos or superchargers

I heard you mention it, but couldn't quite catch it. Its some island I'm not familiar with i think. Beautiful, left hand drive, uses km/h and has many English signboards, so I'm curious where that is.

Personally I would change some design ligns on the outside. The front would be a little more futuristic, the rear section used to be but not anymore. Cockpit is not well done and I agree with Thomas, too much shit, should be cleaner. And finally, that engine, 1.5L, 3 cylinders Imo, its not enough. It's not a performance vehicle but for that price, at least the sound should be a little bit better.

Awesome review funny how everyone wants you to compare it to the 2020 Tesla Roadster (a car that isn't out yet.) America is not the car enemy. The storage is a joke and the comfort of getting in and out makes the super rich look ridiculous. But sitting it looks great the curb appeal of BMW'S is fantastic. The sound control with the top removable is amazing

You know what annoys me about all modern cars interiors. Why do nearly all manufacturers still use "1983 Casio wristwatch" digital displays for the climate control? I mean even the key fob is an LCD display. Why?????

Great review as always, not a looker for me, sat in one, never driven, a pain to get in and out and just does not do it for me, and I drive a BM, so like the brand. How are they selling? Believe the residual value is dropping hard? But you look like you loved it, so it could be the colour or chopping the roof off, but not for me 🤗

I don't think a sportscar is sustainable... whether you get leather seats or not... the gathering of materials, construction of the cars, driving it, etc... that causes a whole lot of unnecessary pollution

Great review like always, the car design is not bad, but there is a big mistake in the design that suppresses me to buy it, the seats headrests are not centered with the two elements on the back top of the car that come to stop behind the headrests, so if I am driving my car following this BMW (or in front of it looking at it in my rear view mirror), I can see the heads of the driver and the passenger more to the center and not centered with those two design elements, this point is in contradiction with a Sports car design concept and put its driver out of the car symmetrical design! I don't know if you get what I mean, but this is just my point of view! :)))
