Thank you Chris for the video. Happy to see the range is more than sufficient for me. Bought the iX40 and will receive the car coming Friday. Feel like a child. I can understand that people prefer the iX50 but with the distances I will drive and the perfect charging infrastructure in the Netherlands I don't foresee any problems. Also the maximum speed of 100 km/h between 6h till 19h in the netherlands will increase my range significant :). My wife drives already an electric Mini and we love to drive that car more than our petrol BMW which we are going to exchange for the iX. Electric driving is a mindset and with a roof full of solar panels also a lot cheaper and more environmentally friendly.

You gotta say a 70 kWh battery for that size of a car is just not enough. I can't understand why bmw won't let the 40 also have the 108 kWh battery, perhaps as an option. This would be the best selling option I think. Those 240 kW are enough for most people, now those who don't need that much power but want the range have to get the 50...
@electricfelix

While in Germany you might be right, you have to think bigger. In The Netherlands where by law people drive this beast at 100km/h all day everyday, you can do Amsterdam - Maastricht easily and maybe on the way back you do a ten minute charging break, IF you didn't manage to find a local charger while you're visiting town.

U get more power with a bigger battery, they properly use the same engine on both and let all the power come from the extra amps from the battery

worst I ever saw in our Polestar (small battery) on hilly routes (south of Kassel) was I think 23 kWh / 100km. Quite a lot of restricted bits on that though. Otherwise 130-ish. Temperatures similar to yours. Headwind too. In France this summer, 20-25°C, headwind quite a lot, 135 kmh on the clock, 20 - 21 kWh/100km. It seems that ADAC ECOTEST that caused all the furore was indeed inapplicable to anything but a "laboratory". (they claimed the BMW had 19.5 kWh / 100km efficiency, including a lot of 130 kmh, but done on a rolling road). The i4 is pretty efficient however. Obviously, body shape and frontal area are playing a big role in this. But BMW build pretty efficient EVs.

I did a testdrive yesterday the same spec as you are driving here, if you compare the HUD to Ioniq 5 or Kia EV6 which is best for you? I noticed that the HUD did not have the Augmented reality arrows like EV6 and Ioniq 5, but the video feed with augmented arrows on top on the main screen were really nice.

Very nice analytics to help understand the performance of the IX. Can you also add efficiency 8:34 in mi/kWh which based on your numbers would be about 2.26 mi/kWh for the IX. This efficiency metric is important. It ultimately determines your range. It also impacts how to size your house for solar based on EV efficiency, low efficiency EV more solar production needed. Higher efficiency EV, less solar production needed.

Great video. So to drive at 80MPH for 138 miles you need to be in eco mode and you said you turned everything thing off but you had heated seats running and heating for inside the car. I think you would have an extremely hard time driving this BWM to Las Vegas here in the states. You would have to stop and charge like 3 times before you could get there. Good test. It would be nice to see how long it would take to charge on a public charging station with the battery that low with the thought you are on a long trip. Also what can you do in with the car while you wait.

Slightly more efficient than my Audi etron 55 but the range on the Audi is slightly more because of the 95kwh battery pack (86 usable). Audi Etron will achieve about 300km 100-0% in winter at 130kph, and 330km at 110kph

Nice video, I have followed for quite some time on RU-vid, and it's always top content!! This test, for me, is not a 130 km winter real-life test. Normally single guys, how can afford 100 k car, do not drive iX, they drive 991 :) . If you go on a long trip in winter, you would say, in my case, always Germany - Austria or Switzerland. 2 adults, 3 suitcases, 2 pairs of skis, boots, equipment, etc. There is at least 200 kg more in the car than you have had. I am not convinced that the iX40 model would work for me. I'm now 1 year until my lease for my X3 330E ends, and I'm looking for a new car to order. Being with BMWs for the last 12 years, im kind a loyal customer. First, what I don't like about BMW is how their numbers do not fit into reality. For instance, the WLTP for my car is 2-3 l per 100 km. AHAHAH. Even though in summer I can really drive 45 km on battery, the petrol engine is incredibly thirsty. Recently, I did a Frankfurt - Täsch (CH) trip. I was hammering it through Germany from time to time, but usually, I was doing 150 km and driving Swiss mode from Basel to Täsch, never above 120. My petrol consumption was 14.6 l per 100 km. That's why I have no faith in BMW Evs. Now when im looking for a fully electric car, I can not justify getting 100+ k € car ( iX50). In general, BMW isn't hitting the sweet spot with their EVs in terms of built quality, size, and range. I have a hunch that, in my case, this car would bring me 190-200 km in winter if driving to the mountains. This would me potentially even 3 charging stops. That range is ridiculous because that correlates more with what early adopters would have been willing to suffer 7-8 years ago. In my case, it should be 330-350 km in winter if driving like a 99-year-old granny in eco mode on cruise control. And that 100 km more than this car can means everything. It means you need to charge it at home until 100 % and you need to charge it once more up to 80, and you will arrive in your hotel with 20-30 %.

So again thank you soo much for this video, some thoughts on recent EVs and value for money/range/style etc,, this time a BMW with a range much the same as ID.3 for much more than double the price, no one cares about the badge anymore BMW, bring your prices down!!, and where has BMWs style gone? same with Audi new EVs, they look cheap and plasticky. Just buy a Kia EV6 get on with your life, much more style about it. This iX is only pulling 155 miles approx from a charge to 100%!! wow, I mean my partner Renault Zoe is better than this for range in winter 5 degrees Scottish weather on the highway and with some town driving added in. I just can't see ix 40/50 as good value for money, same as Audi Q4 Etron, your paying for a badge that no one cares about anymore. value for money lives with ID3/4 and the likes and the new Kia EV6, that's value for money.
@Joe-lb8qn
@Joe-lb8qn 2 года назад
fair point but then no one who buys a BMW does it for VFM. If i was in the market for one of these would have to be the 50 the range of the 40 is just too little for a car costing this much.
@logicpro8382
@logicpro8382 2 года назад
@@Joe-lb8qn I agree as well not much car for quite a lot of money. VFM is something I looked at with Audi, it was value for money at the time with my A1,A4 Saloon and Avant, however that has changed in EV world. Their prices has gone up and quality/kit down a little. Kia EV6 for example nudges past with pricing and kit, and overall VFM.
