the road to 600 miles part 4!
we have tried to do a side by side comparison of the M1000R to the S1000R, is it worth the extra 10k cost. (25k uk)
we done a few side by sides here and its the obvious outcome… Baz wins!
sorry for the crackling in the audio, we are working on a resolve for it.
the wires that we changed for the setup have not worked as well as we thought.

Yeah, I'm really impressed, too. The S1k lost every side by side with Mancs riding, and then also won each one with Baz riding But ut proves S1kR is all you ever need for the road.

This is from rider magazine. ‘the M comes with almost every available option you can get for the S 1000 R, as well as the S 1000 RR’s advanced racetrack electronics. Standard items include lightweight forged wheels (cast on the S), DDC semi-active suspension, Ride Pro ride modes, cruise control, track-ready traction control and Race ABS, wheelie control, dynamic brake control, a quickshifter, machined billet levers and foot controls, and many more standard items. Adding all of these to the S 1000 R would raise its price to a few hundred dollars more than the M’s starting price, and you’d still be down 40 hp.’ Competition pack has all the carbon bits. The carbon wheels are £4000 from bmw. Front wheel is £1885 alone.

Yes we know that the value of the parts are more but paying all of that extra money is not worth the riding experience when it’s almost identical. After having the m1000r for over three months, we can definitely confirm that it is not worth the extra 10k over the s1000r…. In our opinion. This article is also wrong because the s1000r also has most of the things that it lists as standard, from that list it does not have the forged wheels or the billet levers. But you are quite right, if you spec up a standard s1000r with the forged wheels, Akrapovic exhaust and the levers then you will be up to the price of the standard m1000r. @@Mancs1000r wasn’t really arguing with you to be honest. Just was looking into it as I thought it was interesting. I know you said the carbon wheels were £2500 in the video and I know that’s out by quite a bit as they are usually between 3 and 4 grand. I paid almost 4 for a set of bst green carbon candy wheels for my h2. Buying anything from bmw directly afterwards they charge fortunes. The M rear sets alone are like £700. I believe thyssenkrupp make bmw carbon wheels or used to anyway.

Also my mate got the bt moto stage 1 kit for his m1000. Increases the mid range by about 50hp with a system on it. Was dynod before and after. The euro laws kill those bikes really. All costs more money tho !

They do charge a ridiculous amount of money for the carbon wheels if you buy them afterwards but if you spec the bike to buy from new the carbon wheels are only £2150. It would be worth buying them, selling them and putting standard wheels on. Sorry if it sounded like I was arguing.. I never argue with anyone online, I don’t see the point 😊 H2.. nice bike btw, I’m looking forward to riding the zh2 soon.

FYI those intercoms have a delay in them. You don't really notice it when talking, but if you try to time a start whoever is counting down gets a head start. You're better off counting down with 3 beeps, since then you both hear at the same time. Bit less inconspicuous though.

So I was building the S1000R online since I could see myself picking one up down the road as my next bike, and thought what the hell, how much would the “M” version be, and I was shocked. The price difference IS big between the base S1000R and the top spec M1000R, but if you configure an M sport S1000R with the premium package because well, they all come that way at the dealers, that brings you VERY close to the base M1000R. So my thoughts are, stick to the base S1000R for what is really, an excellent value IMO compared to its peers, but if you were thinking of upgrading to the M sport package, just pay that small bit more and get the base M1000R with that solid bump in power, shiftcam, and unique livery.

Yes. My very point. The S1kR is value for money. By far. The MR is just pub talk. 210bhp. Carbon. Its all nonsense, really. I enjoyed my S1kR just as much as the MR. 165bhp is more than you would ever need on the road. With the 10k left, I would rather spend it on leaning to ride better.

I took my M1000R three weeks ago but I am not happy about the vibration it has. Above 100 KM I can’t see any clear view on the mirrors and I think the bike is on break. Did you notice the same. I put only 600 KM on it so far and don’t know if this vibration which occurs over 100KM will be fixed after breaking period or no. I appreciate it if you let me know your thoughts. Thanks

To be totally honest it gets worse with the more miles you do. Ours has done 3000 miles and it’s almost unbearable for a long ride out. We brought it back to bmw on Thursday and they suggested changing the grips for spongy ones… this should not have to happen on a bike that cost £24.5k. We are not sure what to do about it. The video will be out in a couple of weeks. In next weeks video I ride it for about 30 minutes and my fingers go totally numb

@@Mancs1000r Thanks buddy! I do really regret of spending such a crazy money on this bike. I have also a zh2 and Hayabusa and the ride of them is not comparable with this one. Unfortunately here in Canada the customer service is not good and if I could I would definitely return it. 😔

S1000R Is a better value bike than the MR. Hands down. I know it's nice to have the top of the range and whatever. But for me, the S1000R is perfect. I got rid of the RR and S1000R for the MR. Wish I would have just sold the RR.

Rode those roads many times on my 05 zx10r , fun times, unfortunately due to a thieving C**t working for me in my chippy I had to sell it and put the money in the business. haven't been able to afford a bike since. But will be playing for the M1000R in an online comp. you pair are nuts by the way......which is what most people thought of me when out for a blast round Cornwall.

Bet the m 1000 r is a great bike but all that blue anodizing is a bit naff and 25k is way to much. I think the standard bike decated and mapped would be a better option. As for oil dripped all down the bike after a service ,I would have gone back with that and given someone a bollocking.

Hey lads, found your channel randomly and have been demolishing your videos, great content. Something that really got me and will sound stupid, but on one of your intros you were taking the M1000r out or was a test ride or something. You came out of a turning and gave it some and you both just giggled like little girls lol. Really got me as I passed my DAS last year and the day after passing I took a CB1000r out for a test ride, I pulled out the dealership and gave it some and was just giggling away to myself for miles. Watching you two do the same really made me laugh about it all over again. Keep up the great videos, you really deserve more subs than you have.

Well since S1000R has slightly more power and torque between 7 and 10k rpm, it makes sense there is not much difference on open roads between the two. Also the S1000R is known for delivering much more power that what is mentioned on paper and many dynos tests around the internet demonstrated this. That said, at very high speeds on a race track, i guess the M1000R would begin to shine more. Thanks for the video ✌✌

The S1000R had more torque down low comparing to the 2010-2018 not the K67 with shiftcam. At 7000 the S1000RR is making more torque for sure. Go and compare dynos. Also the S1000RRs has more hp at the wheel than it could. Anti-wheelie is by default at 2 and it works very well. Level 3 like in this video is for rain only... Put the MR on stock dynamic or race and see the huge difference

@@DJSixty No the shiftcam s1000rr / m1000r engine does not provide more torque at 7k than the non shiftcam s1000r, this is what BMW would like you to believe with their shiftcam marketing but it's actually quite the opposite. Check cycleworld website they ran all 3 bikes (S1000RR / M1000R / S1000R) on dyno and you'll see S1000R is delivering more torque hence power between 7 and 10k ish rpm than S1000RR and M1000R. This is why the m1000r is quite irrelevant as a roadster because if you need to go on track you'll be better off with a s1000rr and if you stay on road, you'll be better off with a s1000r. Of course the feeling of possessing such a special bike remains but i wish they would have concentrated their efforts on the mid range power - where it makes sense for a roadster - instead of chasing the numbers... But it seems the marketing eventually managed to enforce those 210 hp... :(

I went looking at dynos from UK today again, and I found the BHP UK. I compared 2 videos and it looks that the even UK the S1000R as a slight advantage between 7-9. At 5500 to 7000 there are similar. At 10k rpm the Shiftcam is making at least as many and after that the difference is huge. For sure in the USA the swiftcam engine is weeker and a remap is mandatory. So I was a bit mistaken but not by much, yes if you don't need/want the rush of power after 10k rpm the non shiftcam engine is a good and cheaper alternative.

For a working lad or lass, it's probably not worth the extra especially if the bike is only going to be used on the road. But...if I was in the enviable position where the extra 10k wasn't an issue I'd have the M. For me, although I know that the some of the parts doesn't equal 25k for me it does. On the R, I would be grinning ear to ear but on the M I would be grinning like a maniac especially once I got the ECU flashed 😈

You boys are mad funny.. Why is Baz always shouting 😂 Audio crackling is a pain - i’ve switched to DJI wireless mic’s.. each rider has his own feed but just needs more editing after but audio is cleaner 👍🏻

I'M the very same. Never wanting that feeling of car pulling up at the lights, and it's a better spec. But after 26 years of driving... I realise it's not worth the worry. I still wish I had kept my S1KR. It's all just willy waving. Next time I will keep my cock and cash in my pants

There is not much difference at all. It's slightly faster and I mean slightly. A good rider on a S1k would beat the average rider on the M. It's all just pub talk or willy waving with the M.... The S1k is much better value bike. In my opinion.

Test rode the M1000R a couple of weeks ago. Standard riding position was a bit too prone for me. Did the bar risers make any noticeable difference to the position? Cheers

It's hard to say, as I am only small. So, I still have to lean forward lots. But what doesn't help is I push myself back in the seat all the time. So obviously, I have to then lean for the bars. It's definitely comfier with them.

@teej710 No, it's only 30mm, I think. Everything is fine. They are tight when you do it. But I had them on my old bike for a year. Make sure not to damage the fly by wire throttle connection. There is a rubber mount for the clutch cable that just stays on the bars. Very easy to do. The torque setting I couldn't find anywhere, though.

Guys, have you seen the standard M1000R dyno remap vid by BT moto ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-C_jqgCYlnvw.html . It would explain why the S1000R can keep up, during 2nd gear roll ons. M1000R restricted by nearly 50HP mid range !!!

Yeah.. this is a great example how on the road the M may not shine as you cant access 210hp until 3rd gear or is it 4th and by then, at 11000rpm the S1000r is still right there its my guess your over 110 mph anyway.

That is great that you are Spanish and watching the video 😁 We agree that it is smoother. It’s the engine that was in the old S1000RR. The S1000R is still a brilliant bike and has more than enough power for road use 👍🏼
