BMW's most petite M-badged car is rear wheel drive and has a manual gearbox - great! Or is it? Will this be the first car to cast a shadow on Vicki's love of a manual stick? #bmw #bmwm2 #bmwm
Wonderful intelligent women who knows her stuff....Very kind and obliging to.. as i found out when i retired from the Fire/Service... Lovely person indeed.
“The manual was an afterthought”. Good. A thing of the past, craved by dinosaurs 🦕 who think that Lewis Hamilton is in no way engaged with his automatic car 😂😂😂
@@arreruk Lewis Hamilton probably thinks he is engaged to himself, he obviously loves himself, I bet he snogs his reflection in the mirror. Mine is a DCT 🙂 Apart from pressing a clutch pedal down with my left leg, and moving a stick with my left hand, I don't see what difference it makes with a DCT, I am still changing gear myself, when I decide to, by selecting a higher or lower gear with the paddles. Only about 0.01% of 'manual gearbox' drivers heel & toe, so it really makes no difference to driving enjoyment if you have a manual or auto in a modern car. The more important thing to rant about is AWD really, because it just takes all of the skill of balancing a car on the throttle away. Anybody can launch an AWD performance car with one hand on the wheel, the car basically drives itself.
@@DjNikGnashers Great (and funny) Lewis Hamilton comments aside I'm inclined to agree (obvs). I drive a DSG myself so have the benefits of the auto 'box in town and can have fun through the twisties when required. Having driven manuals for 30 years (and can heel and toe) I don't feel any less connected to the car when 'making progress' down a challenging B road with my DSG paddles flapping furiously than I ever did with a manual.
@@arreruk Indeed sir, and I agree with you too. I had manual gearbox cars all of my life, but my last car was a tuned M140i with the torque converter (ZF8 a brilliant gearbox). The gearbox was remapped too, so it was quite brutal in sport mode. The car I have now is an OG M2 with the DCT. I don't think I would go back to a manual gearbox again, because a modern auto is the best of all worlds. If you want to cruise around town, you are not constantly having to press a clutch and move a gear stick every 2 minutes. Yet if you want to go quickly, you can still have fun by changing manually using the paddles. It's a win win situation !
I'm a die-hard manual fan but like you said, manuals are often an afterthought in recent times and are usually compromised. I wish they'd take time to develop them to be like an MX5 or Civic Type R to work harmoniously with the car, which is why we enjoy them so much!
Love seeing a woman drive a manual.. Your so right about the heated steering wheel. Up north where it gets brutally cold, A heated steering wheel is a god send. I just got a Jeep that has one and I can't live without one now. Great job Vicki.. :)
Fantastic review Vicki, and welcome back 😃 I've just bought one of these myself, and although your driving skills are far far superior to mine, I'm absolutely loving it.
I'm watching this as I'm literally getting ready to go buy one of these. Manual, of course. Thanks for the sanity check before I sign, Vicki! I think the pedals are in a better place on LHD models, too. I didnt notice awkwardness on the test drive.
@@ArtVandelayOfficial totally disagree, the manual is far more engaging proper drivers car , Manual is the one to have, it’s all about the drive and yes have driven both.
So good to see you testing again…a real driver (and a long family history of that of course!). I bought a new 325i Sport in 1986 and did a lot of miles all over Europe. Too many years later, I quite fancy one of these and that price tag is very negotiable…I saw one just a month ago for £57500 with delivery mileage and full (auto) spec…. Sadly my wife cannot get in low cars now due to mobility problems so no sale here but I rather liked it!! Keep testing….we need more from you to balance these hordes of men on You Tube! 😃😃😃😃😃
Amazing Vicki at last someone who gives honest reviews fantastic and a Pearson who can pedal a car great content best you tube channel out there love the the videos and content AStar
Refreshing to see Vicki's no nonsense review which is in contrast to most other reviwers who seem to be obsessed with infotainment systems, Apple car play, etc.etc.... I just get in a car and drive, no music or sat nav.
Brilliant review! And without doubt currently the best Car in The World. Full stop! Auto box? [Imagine what the rumoured Competition will be like! Thank You Vicki, BMW M cars all the way.
70k for an M2 is a bit too dear. BMW has also gone vapid with too many badges and shouting; M cars were supposed to be almost sleepers. Not a fan of the hexagonal digital cluster design either, the analogue BMW dials were so beautiful, at least make it resemble those. Overall, I would have preferred the M2 to be more spartan, but I understand that they have to keep upping the ante. You are excellent, as always, Vicki!
Oh boy am I right there with you on the Z3 M Coupe! My girlfriend worked in BMW sales at the time and every weekend she’d bring the Estoril Blue M Coupe home. What a little rocket ship! I don’t agree that the end of petrol performance cars from BMW is coming to an end, I think the motor manufacturing world is waking up to the fact that EVs are definitely not the future! (Edited to correct Estoril which autocorrect had changed to Escorial!) Thanks @fantastictime.
Nice to see you today in the BMW EV in Cambridge ish!! Love what you guys are doing if ever need technical support for anything, I have a mobile workshop now. May be able to help!! Kind regards Dan the hairy ex VWG guy from today
Absolutely stunning......and the Beemer's ok too. Always enjoyed your reviews with the sense of fun and sheer excitement and enjoyment of just driving. This is my first time to your channel, so I'll stick around, consider me subscribed.
I think almost all of the detractors you have pointed out have more to do with the car being wrong hand drive! Joking aside the left-hand drive models found in Germany, USA, Canada ect. all have the manual gearbox as a $0 option. Meanwhile in Canada the price of one of these ranges from (at time of currency conversion) 45,000-60,000 British Pounds, While the Cayman GTS starts at 65,000 and can get higher than 75,000. I definitely think BMW had to shoehorn that manual gearbox setup for the right-hand drive markets and it definitely was an afterthought in that regard. I will give you the bucket seats though, everyone complains about the weird hump. Don't order those seats if you have any sense and get the standard full leather half buckets, way more comfortable.
After seeing all the different versions of M cars I’m more than happy to say that I’d take any model of Vicky. This latest version is getting better and better with age. I want one!
It's not really 'small' Vicki, it's a medium sized, heavy, coupe. I like it though, first time I saw it, I thought it was a striking and interesting, if not instantly beautiful like the F87 was. I'd have one for sure, if I could afford it, but as I can't, I'll have to make do with my amazing F87 OG M2.
@@ArtVandelayOfficial Yes. I am going to say it on every G87 review I can find. If you have a problem with that, tough titties, better get used to reading it son. Of course, you could just do what an adult would do, and ignore it.
Wow congrats, I didn't know you have your own channel been a fan with your review of the EVO VI! From the states here. I love the Evos, E46M3, and Porsche "GT cars". Now being older I'm searching for the "modern ultimate driving machine" like bmw did with the E46 ( good audio, quiet, comfort, and most importantly driving feel) that can carry kids as a daily. So far Macan wins in terms of NVH, driving feel, and interior quality. I would like to hear your thoughts or advice from a person that driven everything!
Need to wait a few years for the new Cayenne GTS. They are just so much money for a daily driver, but it's a good suggestion. If you spent some time in these cars, you would know what I mean when I say the new Macan's radio scrolling has won me over. I just bought a Macan and have the 4RS, which I believe is the only model left that Porsche offers with the back-and-forth radio surfing buttons. I don't think I'm asking too much from Porsche, but it's almost a deal breaker, lol! Anyway, the G80 M3 RWD manual also intrigues me, but I fear it's too low and has too stiff a ride. Anyway, thank you for your input, and I look forward to your future reviews. @@thecargirlvickibutler-hend2834
Great video. However, unconnected with the film, I don’t think petrol, or for that matter, manual gear boxes, are anywhere near done with yet 🙂. Oh the times, they are a changin’
All the Usual Suspect You Tubers had one on a video in the late summer: Archie Hamilton Racing bought one and put an even more outlandish body kit on it and lowered the suspension: It looked hideous. I suggested he buy carbon ceramic brakes: saving about 20kg per corner and a titanium exhaust like the Lamborghini Urus has by Akrapovic saving weight and increasing the power. Also changing to lighter Magnesium wheels. Harry's Garage said this latest version of the M2 was even heavier by about 300kg than the older version. There was also a man on Instagram offering 'Ring Taxi' style laps in one on the Nurburgring and took out Lamborghini Craig, who is the manager of the Pangbourne branch of HR Owen Lamborghini. He said it was great. I don't know how the M2 was modified for this. Perhaps you could do a demonstration of 'heel and toe' as I am slightly confused as to what it is? Something like keeping your heel on the accelerator whilst braking at the same time with the toes of the same right foot. Although I don't see how this can be an advantage: Its used in rev matching, revving the engine changing down gears, you could do an explanation of that too, please Viki.
Looks amazing, not pig ugly with a swollen grill, quite novel??? However my last two BMW's didn't last much past 100k so I don't rate their quality any more, I drive an Audi now, seems way better quality on the engineering components front.
Why does it seem like the right handed drive spec of this car is lesser than the left hand drive spec? From the annoying always on bongs and beeps to this pedal offset I’ve observed many reviewers speak on.
I heard BMW had gone on record saying they’re not chucking ICE cars in anytime soon 🤷🏻♂️ potentially a wise move as sales of EV’s have taken a major nosedive of recent (kinda worldwide it would seem).. Other manufacturers forging ahead with EV’s might want to follow suit and not retire their ICE cars and perhaps like Toyota keep developing new generations of IC Engines
