You forgot one crucial important step and it is to prime the engine before starting, especially on the N55 engine, I have the N55 M2 also.
@TheHunterHofman
@TheHunterHofman Год назад
It would maybe be slightly better, but oil circulates so extremely quick that it doesn’t do harm if you don’t prime it first. Fair comment though!

Myb better if you had indicated how to prime.

9:56, you should remove the rubber there and reattach it to the hood cover. You can see the right bottom corner is not actually attached and will make rattling noise on highway. Just FYI i spent hours before looking for that noise.

Hm, I’ll check tomorrow if it’s still not in place! Thanks for your comment and for watching.

Nice video brother. I'll change my oil with this knowledge.

Anytime my man. I would have done one or two things differently today though. Don’t put the jackstands under the control arms, use a lift or place the jack stands under the jack points (with the accompanying jack pads). It’s better (although slightly) to have the car perfectly level when draining the oil. Furthermore, be careful when taking the funnel out the engine for oil drops, you don’t want any on your serpentine belt. Good luck man, don’t forget to subscribe (or else I’m forced to kidnap your family)

You were right to use a cloth, perhaps the microfiber one is wasted. The paper must absolutely not be used, it could tear and some pieces could end up inside the engine. How many Nm have you tightened the oil filter and the oil pan plug? 25Nm?
@TheHunterHofman
@TheHunterHofman 2 года назад
Thank you man, yes both were torqued down with 25Nm!

I believe that the factory-recommended oil for M2 Comp is 0W30. Any reason why you decided to use the 5W30 instead? It appears that Castrol Edge 5W30 seems to meet BMW's 83-21-2-450-384 LL-01 Fe oil req.
@TheHunterHofman
@TheHunterHofman Год назад
Yes, (as I mentioned in the video) it’s because the weather was a bit warmer, as it was May. Hence why I didn’t need a low viscosity oil (when cool) and I believe this oil performed slightly better than the BMW TwinPower oil. Also make sure to check my latest maintenance video, as I use another oil (an even better one).

Great job as always but when doing engine work and especially when changing engine oil you should wear gloves.

Why didn't you drain oil then take out oil filter less of a mess to deal with.

Yeah, I was still a bit of a noob here. In my last (titled “quick maintenance”) I do it the other way around :)

Hey Man, great vid! I've got a 2018 and I had a question for you about the oil you use. Is it similar to the one recommended in the manual (BMW Longlife-01 FE)? Def. going to do this myself but trying to find the right guidance in which oil to use. Thank you
@TheHunterHofman
@TheHunterHofman Год назад
Thanks man, BMW's oil is good and you won't have issues with it as long as you have frequent oil change intervals. Having said that, the oil I used is better. In the meantime I have learned, however, that Shell Helix Ultra 5w40 is even better than the one I used. It has a higher HTHS rating, a very good base stock that Shell made via their GTL process, good TBN etc. Overall it is a better oil. In the end though, as long as you change the oil frequently (6k miles intervals) and warm up your car properly everytime, your engine will remain healthy. Hope that helps (and consider subscribing buddy).

I believe you should press and hold the trip meter button, eventually you will cycle past the oil service and then you should press and hold it again to reset that

Can i use 5w -30 with LL04 code?
@TheHunterHofman
@TheHunterHofman Год назад
Yes, the one I used in this video is Castrol Edge 5w30 with the LL-04 code. Having said that, in one of my last videos, I used Shell Ultra Helix 5w40 (with the LL-01 code) and it is slightly better. I'm not sure if it's available in your country, but that is the slightly better oil! Hope that helps, buddy.

@@TheHunterHofmanhow significant is the diffrent betwen that oil for long term? Im more in to 5w 30 cause my country have some company that make 5w-30 ll04 oil and its cheaper than 5w-40 shell

How do you find Castrol Edge?
@TheHunterHofman
@TheHunterHofman 2 года назад
As in, where I could buy it? I found it on the internet here in the Netherlands. Or as in, why Castrol? Because it’s a good quality oil, partly because it has the BMW LL04 certification. As long as you change it yearly or after around 5000/6000 miles, you’ll be fine.
@dalskiBo
@dalskiBo 2 года назад
@@TheHunterHofman Thanks, n'ah just interested in how you've found the oil's performance. In the UK we seem to have 22,000 mile service intervals on the M2. Not 10k as per America.
@TheHunterHofman
@TheHunterHofman 2 года назад
@@dalskiBo ah yeah of course, my bad. Yeah, 22k mile intervals are crazy. Has something to do with BMW being environmentally friendly, but for the benefit of our engines, especially high performance engines, 6k mile intervals would be my (and others’) recommendation.
@dalskiBo
@dalskiBo 2 года назад
@@TheHunterHofman I used to think like this but my opinion changed when researching the oil. There have been such advances, I now feel comfortable with 22k service intervals. Read a few testimonials from BMW customers having done over 100k on the BMW serviced schedules & they're quite happy.
@TheHunterHofman
@TheHunterHofman 2 года назад
@@dalskiBo I’m sure you’ll be fine if you treat the car right, yes. I’ll just keep doing the shorter intervals for my own peace of mind.
