A few comments mention that we apparently “did not launch the RS5 correctly.” Let’s be real here guys, on both occasions, the RS5 was ahead on launch. Had we not launched it correctly, the car would’ve bogged down on launch. Listening to the revs, you would hear if the RS5 was not hitting the redline on upshifts, which it was. Besides all a modern driver has today is reaction speeds on launch, the rest is done by the vehicle. The RS5 launched beautifully on both occasions. The M3 simply kept catching the RS5 and passing. We too were surprised at the results, but after multiple runs, the results were identical. We live in South Africa where the sun always shines, the most logical reason of the outcome is correct heat in the tyres for both cars, meaning grip levels are at their highest. The G8X’s launch control system has also improved greatly over the F8X’s and the sheer in-gear acceleration of the car is crazy as you can see it catch the RS5 both times. Nah, I live in California and it was 45 C the other weekend and my car still wasn’t as slow as your run, that’s a lame excuse. The trap speed on the M3 to overtake that much from a slower launch at the 1/4 if the RS5 was running the usual 115mph at 11.6-8 would be Veyron levels for that gap in the M3. I’ve had McLarens pull on me that much and the M3 ain’t a McLaren!. You messed up, just own and it move on instead of blaming the weather. The M3 is a beast and faster than the RS5 in every single metric on any road or track on earth (other than a wet one) but the one area it isn’t is launching, so how it pulls that much in that short a run is user error or mechanical failure. Check literally every single other RU-vid video with these cars. Im not outraged or disappointed I just don’t like deception.
As the current on-track world record holder for the B9 RS5 with a 10.8 @ 124.7 MPH and based on my review of your video, a few things stand out that make me question your initial launch settings. Firstly, the traction control was not fully disengaged. In order to utilize the full capabilities of the B9 RS5's engine and transmission, you need to fully disengage the traction control. When done so, a bright yellow ECS light will appear in the middle of the virtual cockpit and is clearly not present in your video. Secondly, the B9 RS5 needs to be placed in Dynamic Mode by selecting it within the DRC (Dynamic Ride Control) menu. A bright red "Dynamic" text will be shown just under the tachometer. Again, also not shown. Instead, the text is white which is more than likely Comfort or Individual. Thirdly, the transmission needs to be switched from D (Drive) to S (Sport), also not shown in your virtual cockpit, as this will be depicted as S"#", with "#" denoting the gear throughout the gear changes. To provide more legitimacy to this drag race, I'm sure your viewers would appreciate either a rematch with these proper settings implemented or perhaps some closer footage of your virtual cockpit during this race. Stop making excuses I’ve seen videos elsewhere where the m3/m4 catches and surpasses the rs4 and at the speed it walked it halfway down the track, you can clearly see rs5 is no match. Xdrive isn’t even out yet and already rs5= irrelevant 😂. Before you go off calling me a bmw fanboy I owned this generation of rs5.
I really think BMW now has a trick of making sure that their rear wheel drive cars are able to put power down properly. This trick is illusive and other car makers don't have it.
@@mbusonkabinde3330 That's what distinguishes BMW from other carmakers. Look at how their 3.0L I6 TwinPower Turbo engine outperforms the Mercedes 4.0L V8 Biturbo Engine of C63s and Audi RS5 2.9L TFSI Twin-Turbo V6 engine, and then on top of that, the Bimmer is RWD whereas those I mentioned are AWD.
Audi stop there Research in petrol engines. So accept that Audi is in 5 years no competition for bmw, Mercedes or Porsche. Audi will be a family brand. Sad but fact

Not in all cases. I own an M2 Competition, but the RS3 is definitely faster. The M2 is more fun to drive for sure, but it can’t compete in straight line races with the RS3 despite having more HP and torque. But overall I’d agree
To be fair the Audi B9 RS5 has been out since 2018 so of course BMW is going to leap frog them. Audi will need to step their game up on next B10 platform.

@@DMCarReviews the m340i xdrive does zero to 60 in 3.8 seconds and does quarter miles at 12.1 at 115 mph. Some even faster. Watch throttle house …they do a nice compare of 340i xdrive, AMG C43, and the S4. The M340i xdrive walks away from The S4 and the AMG C43. BTW…I have a refreshed 2019 AMG C43…I also had a B8.5 S4 prior to the C43. I have driven my friends 2021 M340 I XDrive. It’s significantly faster than my C43 which was faster than my B 8.5 S4. Obviously I love all 3 but dang that M340i xdrive with its B58 engine moves.
Since Audi is in the center of the Dieselgate (CEO was in prison...) they decided to try the escape into electromobility. They gave up the internal combustion engine. The negative consequences are most clearly visible with the S and RS models. BMW is in a different league here.

Not only they sorted it out. It launches neck and neck vs probably the best AWD system on the market. But only little boys do care about the 0-100 times, everyone should understand that 100-200+ times are far more meaningful these days, and the s58 motor of m3/4 just rockets.
The grip level of the m3 is the most impactful position difference from the old car , i think this car embodies that point of what m intended to do with it's brand. Its easy to fin many cars that can put you in a ditch but that's because the rear differential and grip level is terrible ,on this car they got it to four wheel/ all wheel grip level in a rear whell drive package m vehicle. 🤔

I saw a drag race vid of Tom in an RS6 and his crazy fitness freak of a brother in Archie Hamilton’s M4. On launch the RS6 would take off like a Jack rabbit, but that M4 soon after was reeling in the RS6 and fast. An M4 reeling in an RS6 like that is probably against the rules and laws ‘normal’. The rolling race revealed just how much better a motor that M4 is than the RS6. Audi have problems. Lol…
Wierd that in any other videos with the same two cars, the Audi beats the BMW clean in the standing start. Poor launch in the Audi here, don’t believe a launch with 2 wheels gonna dismiss “a quattro”.

Going 4wheel drive usually comes at the cost of top end however, if bmw manages to keep that top end and gravity shaking acceleration with an all wheel launch... I'm naming it LordZilla
I have already driven m4C G82, I have to tell awsome grip at rear tyres.. I dont know how they are doing this. First look, the form of the car is (full-black) reminds me a GTR.. Front is better in live. From far view looks like a new mustang, and I dont like this. This is not an awarage boring weekdays car... This is an RWD GTR. Fantastic percformance.. So byebye FourZero :D
I went with the RS5 instead. Due to the fact the the m3/m4 are not on my list of dream cars the M5 is. After I’m done with the RS5 I will be getting the M5 competition. I enjoy both brands 😊

Lets be honest this is not the first drag race I have seen of this new facelift Rs5 racing M3 G80 competition ,,,...but funny the same Rs5 I have seen it beating the same M3 competion twice on standing 1/4 mile so how come on this one M3 leave such a huge gap?.....it is also found on the dyno test that the M3 G80 competition produce 545 hp more than bmw stated ....I am really confused
Ur confused because if u have ever seen a new gen m3 or m4 lost to an audi it wasn't the Xdrive AWD version. In this race it was before the Xdrive version came out. That's why the audi had a better launch and almost won or coulda won. When it's an Xdrive bmw it wins every single time by 2 bus lengths
The Audi was designed as a fast, comfortable car for driving on public roads and up to 70 mph it will at worst match this M3 especially if the conditions are not perfect. I was interested in swapping my RS5 for an M3 but a test drive revealed that it's suspension is too hard-core for poor condition public roads (UK) making it an uncomfortable daily driver. This is probably the reason there are so many low-mileage almost-new M3/M4s for sale. Do not buy without a test-drive. The xdrive M3 xdrive will out-perform the RS5 but with >60hp more so it should.

Excellent review, and now we know why rwd is superior to awd. Audi gotta stop doin that $###; or torque vector better. After 60 mph, all torque need to be 100% to the rear wheels. That'll give bmw a good run
Weight to power ratio should have been considered rather than counting the number of doors. BMW M3 has a strong motor which is consistent and holds power all the way till 8 000 rpm

Audi have gone down the road of design, comfort, tech and advertising, and they have done it to a point where they forgot about performance :/ it's not all their fault tho, they're owned by VW and VW are bowing down to eu restrictions like their life depends on it, also Audi are investing heavily into their electric cars nowadays
