👋 In todays head to head we are taking a look at the BMW M4 Competition and the Lexus RCF! These are two four seater sportscars that are very different!
The BMW M4 Competition has a few trims, the competition and the base. The base gives you the option of the manual transmission and rear wheel drive! The Lexus only has one trim available, but does offer this special edition, the Fuji Speedway Edition!
These are two very unique colors for each brand and have such a great look to them!
The BMW M4 has that aggressive kidney grill and sharp lines!
The Lexus RCF has more of a smooth and round design!
The BMW M4 also has a lot of technology! The BMW is design for performance driving, with the "M" buttons, different driving modes and the handling characteristics are insane! This is a true M car that has all the performance and handling you would want in a factory vehicle!
The Lexus RCF has some technology, but it's definitely old school compared to the BMW. It does have some performance to it, but it's more of a laid back type of sportscar. It definitely has sporty characteristic and this model even has carbon ceramics, which we think is a bit much for it!
The BMW M4 is the better of the two in terms of driving, but for regular daily driving, the Lexus would be just as nice! So it depends on what you are looking for. If you want the N/A V8, the Lexus gives you that, along with longevity of being super reliable!
The BMW is also going to be reliable, but sitting next to a Lexus, it's just not the same!
Both the BMW M4 and the Lexus RCF are completely different sportscar and for a similar price, unless you compare a regular RCF, you either want the exclusivity of the Fuji Speedway edition, or you want the M4 with tons of potential to add even more power!

The RCF TE is not a sports car neither the M4 their GTs. The package is for hybrid track use as many owners that have them do. Had the option to buy both, test drove both and went with an RCF Fuji Speedway Edition. There is something about this spec and car that just performs and feels so damn good when driving it. It's a very raw car and it just feels more special and reviving it just feels fantastic!! Remember that RCF spec weighs as much as new M2. I went in thinking I was going to get a M4GTS , i8 Roadster or new M4CP and left with this and have zero regrets based on how fun this car is to drive. Not to mention Lexus is leagues above the BMW experience if you go to IMSA races....their hospitality when you drive one of their performance cars is second only to Porsche. To anyone that says overpriced, to be frank at 100K nobody really cares about that its more about what do you like , how does it make you feel and how you love driving it around a track /road and for me the option was clear based on driving them all. Enjoy!
@BrosFOURRSpeed
@BrosFOURRSpeed 4 месяца назад
I would disagree. You can have a sportscar that's also a great "GT" car.. Not sure how a car race depicts driving these cars on a daily basis, but glad you enjoyed that experience. To me, the BMW is way more raw feeling, but everyone will have a different view.

@@BrosFOURRSpeed Disagree on my end also due to some well-known misses here. Sports cars tend to focus primarily on performance, while Grand Tourers focus on both performance and luxury. But while GT cars have specific characteristics, “sports car” is a much broader term that can encompass wildly disparate vehicles. These cars are designated as a GT type cars not a sports cars. Sports cars are typically lighter cars no Luxury focus attributes; however the M4 and RCF have never been classified as sports cars from their makers. You wouldn't call a M4 or a RCF a sports car along with a Lotus Evora. BMW calls the M4 a GT , Lexus calls the RCF a GT or Radical Coupe ( Like BMW doing their own SAV nomenclature LOL ) but never a sports car. The focus on Luxury and performance is the gap here. In contrast to how Porsche specifically on certain models say sports cars etc. Lexus and Toyota does this also; ie . Toyota calls the 86 a sports car the GR Supra a sports car etc.The M4 and RCF are Grand Touring performance cars. For the comment on how the race depicts driving experience. Well you and I where at Sebing right thats how you saw this car as we all did. What im alluding to is ownership experience when buying a Lexus Performance product as compared to BMW. When you buy a Lexus performance car you can apply for Lexus hospitality and experience the race better than any BMW owner could experience it because they dont offer their owners much of any hospitality at IMSA races ( I was at the BMW Rolex 24 hospitality FYI it doesnt compare ) . I know I was a prior M car owner. Having both the NA V8 will always feel more raw than a Turbo i6 I never felt like a F or a G series BMW was more raw in the sense of mechanical rawness I never heard of that from a M car owner. More Powerful yes balance in handling I would agree, but raw I mean you barely hear the engine its all exhaust lol. With the RCF it's all intake and engine nearly zero exhaust sound inside stock. Owning both experince was quite contrasting although both excellent. I would always say a V8 will always sound more raw and more mechanical than an i6 that doesnt mean it's faster or better but turbo cars are just all exhaust sounds nothing mechanical happening there although the ZF has the common thump sound instead of the RCFs more raw sounding fuel cut AISIN trans. M4s are more refined and currently not more raw in my view. Revving to fuel cut in a M4 is not a very rewarding experience but in a RCF with that V8 you want to do it all the time! Kudos

FYI: the leather is most certainly real on the Lexus.its Semi-Analine and Alcantara on the Fuji. Where are you getting your information from? Also in comparison to the G82 M4 you “Will Not” find a LCI (facelift) 2020 - 2022 RCF in the 40K range unless it’s has had a rough life with accidents or a salvage title.

I can't believe you don't know that M4s have Merino leather, one of the top automotive leathers made. I find it hard to believe an $88,000 Lexus would have fake leather, as well. My M4 Comp is treated every few months with conditioner for the leather, which is required for the best quality leathers that don't have a coating. As to which one, the M4 leaves the Lexus for dead in every performance area. Lexus is nice if you want a luxury car and don't care about performance. I did, and that's why I bought the BMW. Do enjoy your videos and always give you a like.

Alot of misses on this review indeed but hes a great RU-vidr just missing out on some key facts with these cars. Also on the track a RCF TE and a M4 post similar times their sub 2 cars on many tracks so not left for dead with the RWD and Manual versions. STOCK. The only M4 that would leave it left for dead is a X-Drive and of course CSL variant. Otherwise on a road course a RWD M4 non-comp will post similar times frame as a TE RCF. It's not a quantum leap anymore actually as the first RCFs due to weight. We ran M4s RWD with my RCF TE and there were very similar. The manuals are nearly identical times. Now the X-drive variant off the line is brutal lol. The CSL quite frankly a muscle car lol.

Back in the late 90s a lot of peoples including myself make a mistake chose a M3 over a Supra. A lot of peoples still don’t get it that Toyota/Lexus priority is reliable. That 5.0 V8 all aluminum engine is a masterpiece just like the 2JZ. If you want to go faster just put a supercharged it will smoked that M4 all day and still more reliable

A 2JZ engine supercharged won’t beat an M4, it’s an old engine that needs a lot of work to do that. Cool back then, but ancient as far as technology goes.

If I have to be really honest, the RC has been already 10 years old chassis at this point. Regardless of special edition, it's either not special enough or grossly overpriced. The M4 the fact that it came with a 6 speed manual sealed the deal for anyone who wants sports car attribute. LC500 is the only Lexus that's having something unique
@RandenMontalvo
@RandenMontalvo 4 месяца назад
To you, I would stress. To people like myself who had M cars, this was a refreshing unique car that one falls in love with. Just a special car much as I loved the E92 M4 GTS. I love this special edition. The LC500 is nice but 400lbs heavier and honestly sadly overheats at the track just not poised for that beating like this car is and I didn't quite enjoy that experience at all. To be honest to ME, this car is a Jem and a bargain price-wise coming from M cars. Very special indeed.

LFA Nurburgrings sell for a million more than standard examples and there are less Fuji RCF’s than NLFA’s. That puts it in a different league than the dime a dozen BMW. Next, that RC is 10 years old. It’s an embarrassment for BMW that this is a comparison. It’s going to be hilarious when they put the next Gen RC next to this same M4, even in CS trim.
@BrosFOURRSpeed
@BrosFOURRSpeed 5 месяцев назад
Keep in mind the M4 is a better car. The normal RCF is about $50k. This trim is priced with the M4. However the R35 GTR is more on par with the true performance competitor with the M4

Probably the most ridiculous post here. So because the car doesn’t sell and because of an unrelated car, that puts the RCF in a different league? A complete joke.

Brian has a clear bias review especially with the slick fake leather comment ..the inside of that Lexus is beautiful…the materials in rcf is luxury and feels top notch..total different driving experience with turbo and n/a.. also total different experience with all wheel drive and rear wheel..pointless to review rcf if your so bias and don’t like the car..
@BrosFOURRSpeed
@BrosFOURRSpeed 5 месяцев назад
Keep in mind tho, you can get genuine leather in the BMW. Fake leather is still a lesser material. Yes the Lexus is very nice as we said. But there are more plastics inside and there is a difference in the materials in these cars. In general the RCF is a $50k car, so at that price point they both make great sense for their price. But this special edition is going for a much higher price then your typical used RCF and is the same price of this M4. At the same price you really need to want the special edition to forgo the better materials, tech and performance from the BMW. At a normal trim RCF for $50k, its a great buy.
@anthonyjones7193
@anthonyjones7193 5 месяцев назад
In general the RCF Msrp is as low as 68k new and can get used around 40k..I guess you have some points with the Fuji edition with the price point…. Standard RCF has the option for genuine leather by the way and yes at 40-50k it’s a great buy…you still showed u are a bmw fan boy tho lol

Unfortunately, I can tell clearly being an RCF owner that the RCF was not in SPORT+ mode. The shifting should be faster if you are in SPORT+ and manual mode. No delay. The variable suspension and steering etc. all sharpen up only in SPORT+. I own an RCF and definitely that did not look like it was in SPORT+ as at full-throttle and SPORT+, it shifts nearly instantaneously. I have videos on it as well. You can compare and see the shift is within 100 ms of when the paddle is pulled.

@@BrosFOURRSpeed I am just saying something was off when you did a short burst of acceleration as the transmission is way faster than what it was in that lilttle segment. My videos are proof of that. I can tell just by looking at the video that it does not match what I have in my RCF. My videos also show a distinct difference. It is instantaneous. Either the transmission was not fully warmed up (it takes about 20 minutes or so for the transmission to come out of limp mode) or it was not in SPORT+ mode.

@@BrosFOURRSpeed You can take it for what its worth. You can check out some of my recent videos and see the difference. I have owned mine for 7+ years so I can tell easily there was a difference and there is no denying it. I am just trying to make sense of why? It could be either the mode or that the transmission was not warmed up as it takes up to 20 minutes for it to come out of limp mode. You will see how it behaves very different than how it did in that short sprint. Also, $40K buys a very early model RCF with high mileage and a lot of times questionable maintenance records including accidents in many cases. Not exactly comparison with a mint condition, low mileage and really good Maintenace. I would not recommend it unless someone really wants the car on a budget, but then maintenance cost is another thing. The RCF in any variant was really a competitor for the F-series M3 or M4 so the G-series is one generation newer. The RCF TE lap time of Nürburgring in the 7:40s is in-line with the F-series M3 or M4 CS.

@RandenMontalvo

Although this is kinda based on your money situation. To a person that has it the special editions offer better value to them since value is not tied to money issues and just wanting the best of self preference. When you sell a TE or a CSL the person doesnt care about worth it or think it terms of discounts....they want a unique experience and thats what they get spending being unbothered by money at that level.

@BrosFOURRSpeed 4 месяца назад
@@RandenMontalvo I wouldn’t agree with that, but people will certainly buy what they want and will enjoy. I know millionaires who would buy special cars that actually increase in value. Just because they have money, doesn’t mean they want to blow it.
@RandenMontalvo
@RandenMontalvo 4 месяца назад
@@BrosFOURRSpeed I’m confused at “blowing money” totally disagree at this level much like myself people are less concerned with discounts or value prop and more focused on what they want and the experience. These cars are not collectors items even the CSL depreciates spectacularly it’s not a 3.0 CSL. The point is at this level price is less a issue and more a client that wants a unique experience that’s why a person spends 15k more on carbons on a M4CP build that’s why you pay more for this car with Carbons on a RCF TE etc. I never once the thought to myself , I can get a LS swap in a Miata and save money. lol buyers at this range tend to buy based on pure user preference not savings. All of these cars at this segment are liabilities not investments as none appreciate to any degree German or Japanese specifically this GT segment. The M4 falls off a cliff resale wise and the RCF TE hold better value than M4CPs but at the end of the day these GTs demo are not geared to penny pinchers or folks that say I can get a 2015 M4/RCF there for folks that want the best that aren’t concerned with the price quite frankly that appreciate the offering. It’s also cheaper than the M4 building a M4CP with carbons is 120k+ depending on options. I chose this because of the experience solely which is just so much raw then I’m used to with the Germans sans M4GTS. You can’t go wrong with either car but price at this level is just not an issue for a prospective buyer wanting limited editions models; these aren’t marketed to save a driver money. Much like the CSL the TE offerings are for those who simply want the best from the manufacture model.
