What a shit car: - 2. Row Legroom smaller then in Midsize Car - Trunk Space smaller then in a Skoda Octavia - 2500kg, for a "sports car" - Cheap Plastic like a VW Polo But hey, its got nice Ambient light 😂
As a BMW client since 97 I got my fair share of models. Loved the idea of this model but many details seem like have been bought directly from the AliExpress HQ…

I don't care what anyone has to say about this car. The only thing I think is important is that it weighs 2,510 kg. Out of all the hundred BMW models that should not have an M on it. This one deserve an M badge the least. And yes, it does look like a chinese copy of itself.
The touring looks 1000 times better than the sedan. The black rims on black really does look good. After so many ugly and cringey big grilled BMWs (i4, iX, M3, M4) this is so promising. Too bad its a massive and heavy boat and the hybrid range is kind of a joke. Nice interior!
It's a luxury touring car, no one is going to track a car that is this expensive anyway, might as well buy a dedicated gt3 car. The PHEV inclusion is for businesses to get discounts and BMW to help reduce CO2 on paper.
Oh Amg E53 with a v6 weight in at 2.3 ton Panamera v8 hybrid weight in at 2.4 ton(nobody gives a F because it's a porsche) M5 with a v8 and hybrid weight in 2.4 ton Stop yappin kiddos u can't afford it anyway Grateful that it still has a v8 instead of downsized engine This is a luxury sedan / touring not a pure sports car like a 86/miata Grow up mate
Agreed - the big screen in the BMW looks soooo cheap and gimmicky. Cheap plastics and tacky Android-like screens. The old dash was a class-act compared to this.
@@ThinQsome Apple and Microsoft both create horrible products and services one after another and they’re not going down any time soon because people know the brand, it’s a household name, it’s established and even tho they’re shit people will still gove them money over a smaller company
Awful. The ugly illuminated grill with non-integrated radar detail...the massive weight...the horrible headlights. G30 pre LCI was peak modern BMW. Was looking at a N63B M550I, but still can't trust the BMW V8s. Fast AF though. But what are they thinking with this gamer styling?? Ridiculous. Thomas is the best at covering the details though, top rank channel!
Blah, blah, blah. Another supposedly BMW aficionado that can recall every BMW M, N, B, number. Sir, to you I say THIS IS A PHUKN FABULOUS CAR. The difference is I could actually go and buy one.
@@mlo5083 And your horrible taste is why they keep getting worse. Keep on keepin on. Yeah details ain't important, just get the shiny one with the most lights muppet
as an extremely happy and satisfied owner of M850i I recommend you not to hesitate and buy this M550i! There won’t be cars like this anymore, don’t be afraid of the V8. It’s finally enough modified to be relatively reliable. Just choose your car carefully and don’t forget about regular services - this engine need lots of attention because of how hot it is. I’m servicing mine every 5-7k km and nothing happened in 40k km, everything is perfect.
@@yaroslavbauer8137 congrats on the 8 series! The 850 GC are definitely beautiful. I'll likely be going with a E400 W212 as it fits my needs a bit better now as a reliable commuter. The 2020 M550 and 8 series are incredible machines though.
Nothing makes it looks cheap as flat panels and rgb lights. Not sure why "modern" interior is so bad in many new cars. Bugatti are the only ones who got the memo and makes an interior that looks and feeld expensive.
@@DeadlyDizzle-yn1vz I mean it skipped the digital dashes and touchscreens.. and went for analog dials, and physical buttons. The inside of the M5 looks like a gamers bedroom.

Leah's camera work is top notch. Excellent framing and tracking. Also, I am surprised that this was filmed what looks to be DJI Osmo Pocket 3; the quality is excellent. I thought it was a mirrorless camera.
I don't need an illuminated grille, I don't need ambient lighting inside, I don't need a big screen on the dashboard. What I need is 800 kilograms less weight, that's it.

Great review as always. I always loved the M5 Touring V10 and came very close to buying one 5 years ago. I have absolutely no interest in this 2.5T M5 Touring, even after it will depreciate very heavily after a year. Additionally, why on earth don’t they offer alcantara type seats???
Well it’s nice that BMW is bringing back the wagon offering in the US but unfortunately this generation of 5 series is ugly to mediocre at best. In addition the slab style instrumentation gives a very impersonal attention to detail. It’s so generic how they mount a series of iPads on top of the dash. What happened to the day that BMW spent the time to integrate instrumentation that would communicate a drivers car. They just keep moving more and more generic in feature function integration. Front end needs more work to make it more attractive.
I can't imagine how digusting these touchscreen panels will get after days of usage and improper cleaning. With sunlight shining from just the right angle, all the dirt, oily fingerprints, swirls and risks will appear. It's nicer to look at than to have.
It will be interesting to see where they position the next Alpina B5 given I assume they will keep them as a low volume OEM. Maybe take the battery out, trick suspension and comfort seats in some very expensive leather perhaps
I haven't seen in my entire life so much piano black in a car.I mean it is a beautiful super class car but that piano black all over the place is horrendous.
Unfortunately, I experienced on my own skin what problem brings the excessive weight of the car, on my 2K Kg M550i I lost grip due to old smoothed out road and it was impossible to control the slide, although the speed was less than 70 km/h. I ended off the road, which stopped the slide. Lighter cars who drove in the same column with me did not have this problem. Such a big weight on such a car is not a problem, as long as there is a grip. But as soon as grip gone due to any reason, I realised how it can lead to big problems.
Im super impressed by the cargo space. I would like a large lfited up wagon here in the states but absolutely no options. Everything from Europe is expensive and unreliable, even if reliable basic maintenance is so expensive. I dont particularly trust Subarus reliability so no Outback. Stuck with SUVs and CUVs for now. Absolutely no alternatives that fit my needs and wants.
Saw it in green a few days ago at Legends of the Autobahn in Seaside. Spoke to BMW rep from Woodcliff Lake and asked for BEV i5 touring - he said not coming to USA for now. Sad. I love my i4 eDrive40.
I I think the touring model is the best looking version of the 5 series. The sedan styling is just off in its styling. I drove the 5 as a rental and liked the quiet and the fit and finish very much and the infotainment system is much improved.
Agreed. And it does not feature the idiotic embossed "5" in the C-pillar. Looks good in my opinion, but ridiculously heavy and expensive. In half a year these will be up for grabs for reasonable amounts..
Today I walked into a BMW dealership and looked at some used but still young 3-series vehicles. Just for reference: I drive an A4 from 2019, coming from an excellent Golf 7 Tsi. When I took a seat in the beamers I was disappointed with the design and build quality of the interiors. But the prices of the cars were quite high, where has the money gone into, I thought? There's no sense of wealth or luxury in these cars. You probably have to opt for several expensive options to make it look wealthy....and that's what always has been the problem with me and BMW's. We don't seem to match somehow.....
Hey man with one you will choice m5 new or Audi sedan or avant or touring i like bmw have more space more playful let us know BMW or Audi tell us true Tomas
Gone is BMW’s timeless harmonious design. Instead this design is too complex, too heavy and in some areas plain ugly. Look at the transition of the backdoor to the fender. For cost reasons, they used the standard door. What to say about the poor integration of the the sensors in the grille. Bmw’s were renowned for their excellent user friendly interiors but that is gone too. 😢As a bmw fan, my heart breaks
I really would not be buying a large ICE premium expensive vehicle this close to going pure EV. The PHEV concept works for me as I would get most of my mileage on electric but wonderful to have a twin turbo V8 for your last ICE hurrah. I like the satin paint. The price is simply ridiculous. On production the use of the portable strip light really makes the filming of the boot much better so please do this from now on. In fact using extra light for any of the dark bits of the car really makes the review easier to follow.
Love it in and out but they should make a version without the PHEV system. Not everyone wants that and it would probably save a couple hundred kgs of dry weight.
Any G90 owners here? Why isn’t anyone talking about the AC problem in the ICE 5-series? After driving for 3-4 hours straight, the AC just quits. You have to turn off the engine for at least 4 hours before it’ll work again. It’s crazy!
Chibesische Motoren Werke.. the estate version does look better at the rear. But it's a proper Chinese piggy 🐷🐷

I have been done with BMW for over a decade now. Because of this reason. But this car is 2,510 kg. And it not only has cheap piano black on the inside anymore. I see 5 series with piano black on the outside now. Skirts and rear bumper are shiny black nowadays. What is going on?
201", 5400 lbs, wow. Like the RS6 avant here, there's no point counting on wagon sales numbers when you only offer the most absurd price point. Also only a glass roof, not an opening sunroof? More loss of functionality to modern manufacturer cheapness. Hell, they couldn't even do an electric cargo cover? At is price point? And those non-adjustable headrests. Hope you're the same body shape as the test dummy they're based on.
BMW has won the design price however there are some points for improvement. Interior and exterior fantastic however the interior the happtic design that the whole panel drops down when you press one button. I do not know if this is the best way forward. The plastic for this price is not done on the trunk lid. What if the electronics not work were can you hold to lower the lid down?
I am surprised, that is slower than Audi RS6 (of course due to weight), but, also the ICE engine has less power than the ICE of RS6. Would be very interesting, what Audi will come up with the new RS7 Estate :)
I just wanna say it is really cool that you still call out when manufacturers use animal skin seats. It makes them crying about how hard it is to make an electric vehicle seem not as truthful when they go out of their way to skin cows to make a worse seat.

Unfortunately, the design is unsuccessful...the ground clearance is very low compared to the size of the rear luggage, and this will make matters worse in bumps...the companies should reconsider such outdated designs...this is the era of SUVs
cockpit is not good - the screens looks like afterthought. Bring back buttons! Looks cheep... I'm sure it drives fine, but these things are deal killers to me
Hey Thomas, A question… Why is the quality of the paint from car manufactures so poor that you really need to spend hundreds or thousand of € to protect your car from scratches and chips etc. I mean, shouldn’t we expect more from them with the prices they charge for a new car these days? Why is no one talking about this?
Black roofrails is a bitch. Don't use it with BMW roofracks because they will damage the roofrails. Roofrails is sort of coating and not 100% alu/chroom. M5 looks great but too much plastic. I like the G31 better then this generation. The fact that the rear trunk window can't be opened separately in this generation is a big miss imho because it was a unique selling point. I think I would go for the Alpina because this M5 looks a little bit over the top and in some way a bit cheap. I would want more style and elegance in combination with power.
