most highly moddified cars sound similiar to firecracker, sometimes more like explosions ... and it can actually blow up your engine if you dont shift your gear in time , aspecially when using NOS when you hit rev limiter in same gear without changing it , can be very expensive , that BMW is a beast , must be at least 700 to 800hp in my opinion , cool video
@ekbusdriver That's true. It's very hard to launch a bike properly. I was referring to roll-on. From 30+ mph the bike really shines. I know I can beat 99% of bikes from dead stop (for the reason you state), but from a roll ... I can get perfect launch each time with my car, and do consistent sub 12.5s 1/4, but in my bike I have a hard time to get in the low 10's and below, but I know it crushes my car from 30+.
@TheBarrett1971 You're kidding right? - The bike must have given the M5 a huge head start that time around. The R1 gets to 60 twice as fast as the M5 (4.5 seconds vs 2.5 seconds) and over 2 seconds quicker to get to quarter mile. Maybe a 1992 Suzuki Bandit 400cc stock would be a fairer race for that M5 :)
So true. But don't deny the fact that the M5 is heavy mofo and accelerated as fast as that 200kg R1!!! That is really impressive. Too bad he didn't race against a gsxr lol, would have been game over with just slightly modded 1k (head and cams + exhaust) pushing around 175-185whp. That R1 barely is 150whp.
I want to clear some things out. First of all, the power to weight ratio is in favor of the bike as long as the race is short and neither the bike nor the car can reach top speed. Because when they reach top speed, the car takes over. It has more hp, it is easier to handle at top speed and is a lot more stable. If you would race a bike vs a powerful care over a 5 mile straight, the car would win but the bike would lead until they reach top speeds.
WOW from a 99 HONDA cbr900RR owner that my friend is a very as darth vader would say, " IMPRESIVE " bmwM5 and i have a very good idea what its like racing a YAMMAHA R1 from past incounters, they are fast
jesus christ! . . I'm pretty sure the sound of that bimmer is exactly what the end of the world will sound like. Seriously tho, that banging is most likely one fuck of an anti-lag set up!
Yes, this BMW might still of got beaten on a road with corners in it, but like i said, it would of stood more of a chance than just racing in a straight line! But, the basic laws of physics dictate that, in general, 4 wheels will alway be better at going round corners than 2. Simple as that! :)
and how much was that engine transplant? 50k? more? how much did the bike cost? goes just as fast right out of the box...still no comparo IMO...oh and is a bmw still a bmw when it has a japanese engine in it?
True. Also if you try to accelerate too fast on a bike it will wheelie, this causes riders to accelerate properly and gently feed the power on, or they will flip the bike and crash. Cars don't give you such a huge penalty for not putting skill into the launch / acceleration so people tend to wheel spin a lot when they should actually feed it in gently as the bikes have to... If you get me.
@ReveretheHood What? Don't compare WSBK bikes to showroom bikes on street. Suzuki has the best motors period. Honda now has one of the best chassis out of the box and new R1 is just...different. If you just want raw power, good working chassis and all-around awesome street bike, the gsxr is #1 choice. New Blade is better machine for track riding, and it's chassis is just unbelievable. Feels like a 600 to toss it around. I love power for street. 220whp out of 1143 stroker 1k gsxr is no joke.
they're better to launch but reliability on them is reduced. all cars have wet clutches, does that mean they'll fly by bikes with dry clutches? a 700hp sti or evo with AWD will take a bike off the start and most likely beat 600's cause they have a higher top speed. the benefit to wet clutches is that they last much longer because always immersed in oil, therefore always lubed and cooled. also a dry wet clutch doen't work,it is designed to grip when wet. dry one is designed to work only when dry
Heres the thing... Bmw to 10000000 hp and all the other add ons cost 50k Used R1 Cost 5,000 bucks.. so yea why spend 50k on a pos break down bmw when you can beat an R1 like a drum and it wants more... That car will blow up around 3-4k miles with that type of power..
hang on the R1 is standard!!? standard exhausts & the bmw is tuned to an inch of its life,,,,hmmm sounds fair! But the BMW sounds fcking sexy man!! & thats a NICE peice of ROAD lucky sods cant find them, in london sides..
fuckin quick that m5 but no point in all the power seeing as it cant put it down, its just spinning up :P bike all the way, on a track though :) roads are boring. lol
@makexxx that's true that suzuki has the best engines but if u want raw power but show that u are almost blind, u buy a Suzuki Hayabusa... it's ugly as hell but man it's fast
r1 is faster on a racetrack tho, since it has more power in top revs than honda, so honda seems faster on the street where you cant keep revs really high all the time, and more power in mid revs come handy..but than again does it even metter since at the end it all comes to riders skills and not that much to power and torque :D and for this vid... comparing bikes and cars is pointless anyway. have a nice day
Wow nothing but stupid comments, if its a stock r1 then yes the BMW with 1100 horses can beat it, don't u guys see that the car is just spinning wheels in every gear, I ride bikes too and the r1 is actually one of the slowest 1000ds out there, Honda cbr1000rr all day, yes a bike is really hard to beat by any car but if u have a monster car like that and u can get traction then u can beat that bike, some one I know drives a 700 HP evo9 and he keeps up or beats 1000ds all day, it just depends
@LVs13DRIFT yeah but it cost like 40x the original stock value of the car I'd bet. Whats the point, ultimately. Its a BMW, a stock, regular, M5. They dont have any collectors value as such. Such a huge waste of money to make them perform more than they were expected to. Dont get me wrong, I'm a huge BMW fan, but this kind of thing is pointless. Massive cost, no reward. Nobody respects anyone driving a car that old, until its a real classic like a 60's mustang. Fact.
@bliss0512 Untrue. My stock as a rock Alfa 147 Ti will leave my friends 1198s for DEAD down our local mountain pass. Im not talking a little infront once we come out the bottom, im talking about 3-4 corners before him. You really dont need to spend much to monster a bike through the corners and in braking zones. Its true that nothing short of 700hp and racing slicks will keep up with a bike off the line, but bikes (even motoGP spec) cant keep up with cars through tight turns.
wow, i would like to it from onboard he e34bmw on a german 3 lane highway for example beetween lorsch and viernheim(16km perfekt 3 lane surface without speedlimit and mostly very less trafic!! mmh. from 80 to 240 will the bmw be faster and over this speed of course the bad aerodynamic is the bike faster. i`m driving the smaller version e30 but way less power than this"enormous powerfull "firecracker"
@mysock351W Dont over look the fact that M5 has got a 5 litre engine compared to a measy one litre engine on R1. You can also work magic with the aerodynamics on the car.. huge downforce etc. which isn't REALLY easy on the bikes. Add a spoiler to the car and give it better grip but on a bike it isn't the case and the icing is most of the supercars are double seater and are wayyy to pricey so the bikes give you a better bang for your buck too not to mention about the additional fun :D
@flappinrappin because the damned thing is revving so quick from all that boost, that its bouncing off the rev limiter and making the fucking computer have grand mal seizures. LOTS of tuning to be done here if they ever want to make the thing do anything other than burn the tires off....Which is cool if thats all you want it to do, but it won't hook up and see it's full potential if they leave it that way.
@cvhdrd The bike is not more powerful, it is the fact that A)It weighs about 3,000lbs. less and B)It can actually get traction with the power it has. This video is a perfect example of having power and having USABLE power. What the hell is the point of having 1000hp if all you do is spin. And it will not necessarily need constant maintenance if it was built correctly and efficiently.
the bugatti veyron can beat the R1 lol as there is a video of it. But I love both cars and bikes so im on the fence - generally speaking bikes are much faster but I love it when a car can match it or beat it. F1 cars are quicker than bikes as well only because you cant keep the nose down on a bike - if you could then the bike would probably be quicker, but f1 cars cant do full power either till they are so far away from the start line.
Very true!!! A car will always loose a drag race to a bike because if you consider the power to weight ratio, the bike will be lagues ahead of the car + the amount of surface area in contact is conjunction with the weight is much lesser for a bike than a car, hence the car if not AWD has to actually overcome it's own standing inertia before accelerating!
I would hate to buy that car second hand. The driver has no mechanical sympathy and that car would be a POS after a few months. More money than brains. The Turbo is not set up correctly. All that popping and banging is wanking attention seeking. Far too much power for the tyres and chassis and driven like the driver has a peanut for a brain.
@dindrockstar dont look over the fact that this is a e34 m5 it does not have a 5 litre engine,it has a 3.6 litre straight 6 the latest m5 has a 5 litre v10,and the fact is a r1 is fast no doubt, but its was more impressive have a car that weights 1.5ton keeping up with the bike than a 200kg bike just keeping up with the car
Lol doesn't exactly matter IF it had more traction. Fact is it doesn't. Still held it's own. But it doesn't. If the r1 had a turbo and same traction it would have dismantled the car in sheer awe. But it doesn't have a turbo now does it. And yes. They do turbo motorcycles why?? That's beside my moral judgement lol
@benzy199 Actually, no it's launch control. When switched on and clutch depressed the ignition is drastically retarded to keep the rpms as a set level with your foot mashed to the floor. The fuel burns inside the exhaust manifold and spools the turbo. When the clutch is released, the igniting timing is normalized and you take off at full boost / full power.
Yeah... Manos nailed that one. I find it ironic that you still call them shit in a corner even though they'll pretty well keep up with anything. And top fuel? Really? Bikes vs. top fuel is apples and oranges. I'm sorry the BMW got beat, and from your tag, I can tell that's upsetting. Bikes for the win, AGAIN.
Over 1100hp in the bmw. The car is parked not far from where I live. The driver uses it as a everyday car, It sound insane in real life. This race was just for fun. AG stickers is to be found on most tuned cars here in Norrköping. ( The AG,s bmw i a celebrity here)
@goguhu I have seen it at the drag strip and on the street a TON of times, and it takes nowhere near that power. (for the top speed, yes) Bikes only get their stellar numbers with a prof rider on board. 99.9% of buyers will NEVER see a sub 10second quarter on that bike.
@ekbusdriver Bikes with only 1 tire get relatively poor drag starts, once rolling the acceleration is even more impressive, this is why liter class bikes, even with poor ability to launch have 150 mph 1/4 mile trap speeds. Eventually wind resistance becomes a factor, but thats on the far side of 100.
@siman87 That's what happens when you've got a heavy 500hp+ (1000+ in this case) front mounted engine in a rear wheel drive car with no traction control, on the strip the turbo 5series usually hocks up pretty good though, given that they have decent race tires and a soft rear,
@07e90335 theres a better one on here, it's a PROPER sleeper, yet have 750hp i beleive and over 2000 lbft or torque!!!!! he's on a dyno, barely trying and it says 'torque limit exceeded reduce power now, system shutdown' haha search up '536 M 750bhp' or something like that... it's MINT! haha
Race 1 the bmw has zero traction you can see him lay down rubber even as he passes the camera man, race 2 bmw wins, 3 too close to tell and the bike edged the win in race 4, I give the bike its dues but thats a 4 door 2ton beast that bike worked hard for its win...I'll take the bmw
you guys talks about horsepowers ?? y fucking amateurs , ofcourse the car need more horsepower than the bike , the bike weights 300 kg and the car ya 1000 kg more, don't comment if you dont know anything about cars and bikes ... BMW POWER !
people mak me laugh. that car has been modified and yet its only level with a bog standard r1. if you put the bmw standard see how close it would be then or stick a full akrapovic system and power commander on the r1. better yet let it race a gsxr 1000 k5
I have the exact bike and its low to mid range is average but topend its an animal and seriously when its doing its thing you wouldn't expect a car to hang with it like in the rolling start races. Get into a few hills that car would blitz most bikes.
@AsianPerson3 suzukis are the ugliest bikes around in my opinion but hey thats just me. thats a very nice BMW but cars dont got shit on bikes! funny how people call sport bikes ricers when their damn near the fastest things on wheels.
Your gonna need some excotic car before its anywhere near the performance of an R1, the stock R1 does 0-60 in just over 3 seconds. Ever if the Bm had the power to keep with it it would get it down on to the tarmac.
@oCannabusdriver True to a point... an average driver will be faster through the bends than an average rider, the same is true with good drivers and good riders. Cars are just simply faster through corners.
Lite väl mycke M5 turbo nu va? kom på nåt nytt! Och Vidar strands M5 är fortfarande ganska mycket vassare. Men visst M5an i det här klippet gick bra. Lite för bra med tanke på greppproblemena.
haha the r1 is orginal looken when the r1 have akrapovic evo exhaust , BMc airfilter, and Power commander, its another for the bmw the r1 fucking stock but with mods hhahah see you by byy bmw :D
Nice video and that BMW is fast. But you can tune a lot of cars to be able to beat a bike. But when it comes down to it, the bike is way more fun, costs less and takes skill to ride
Ls503king, I second that statement. Fastest IV been is 175 MPH on my bike 2 wheels and a motor.... just don't try to raise your head above the wind sheld. The helmet almost broke my nose.
I think that the launch would be faster if the wheels spun, but not fully occupied: D but the BMW M5 has a very powerful engine, but the R1 does not have a mistake! :) I love bikes! : P
@Spliffstyles because it sounds exactly like a 2jz-gte...not too many cars in the world that sound exactly like a toyota supra....but if i'm wrong pls tell me what engine IS in that car?
when will you understand that they can, and what does acceleration mean when most of the roads are curved.. good cars have cornering then bikes and then there is safety..
M5 is fast however it has a useless launch . As it cant put is power down on the road . a Nissan new GTR with 550hp stock awd & launch control would kill this bike
