I'd consider the M850i xDrive Gran Coupe simply because I'd rather have a panoramic sunroof than a carbon fibre roof. It suits the car better. Or hold off for the Alpina B8 Gran Coupé Allrad.
@@neilmcmahon There is motor vehicle tax based on the engine displacement (%220) and VAT (%18) added on top of the total price. Basically Turkish pay the tax of tax :) 5 272 300 Turkish Lira is roughly equal to €540K
@@mryilmazemre That is crazy. We pay similar taxes here in Ireland but not 220%. We pay 36% of the cost of the car to register it, then pay 21% VAT on that value. The Brits don't know how good they have it.

Jonathan, you are completely right but when they've been registered they'll be available for 80k. In fact there are plenty on the BMW used site for ~90k at the moment. In another 6 months they'll be cheaper again. My M6 was about a year old with 4k miles on it and it was half pricing in 2018 - I'm expecting the same thing to happen with these. A great car in almost every situation, but definitely not the best at anything. Good to see you on here too BTW :)

It should actually sound better and a bit louder/ more brutal than the RS competitors according other comparisons I've seen. Compared to E63s and M5/M8 comp, the RS6/RS7 have the worst sound in my opinion. Although none of the new models have a really good sound. Well aftermarket exhausts could do the job and improve the sound quality and make them more 'bassy' or so..

Unlike Porsche, BMW offers cars with similar power and straight-line performance to its M Competition cars in much cheaper packages. It`s just very hard to justify the M8 Comp over the M850i Gran Coupe and the M5 Comp over the M550i. Same goes for the M5 versus the M8. When the 440xi Gran Coupe comes out, it`ll be a fraction of the price but still be very quick on the street.
Some fair comments and I have not driven M5 or M8 for that matter but have gone through the 2 series..220D then the M240i and now the M2C. The biggest difference in the full fat M car is the road handling. Yes you may not notice the straight line speed between the M240i and the M2C but put it on a twisty UK road and its night and day. Dont get me wrong the 240i is probably a better choice for 80% of the time.
Absolutely worth it. I'm going to get an F90 M5 recently because I don't have that much money so I want the most HP and luxury for the price. But the M8 series look so good and even perform better. If I'm super rich I'm definitely going to get the M8GC.

Super cool review Joe !!👌. I'm an AMG fan, I can't think of any convertible whatsoever that I'd take over an M8 competition cabriolet, having said that I'd still take an AMG GT63s over an M8 competition GC.
Ive just PX my M850 in for the M8 as I just wanted one retail cost with ultimate package and I purchased it with the Carbon bucket seats I pick mine up tomorrow
Will it stand the best of time wrt to design? Saw one a few weeks ago, just didn't have the wow factor imho. It's predecessor, the BMW 8 series (840i & 850i) of the early 90s still look gorgeous.
BMW fan boys rejoice a good looking BMW these days is rare.... I still struggle with the gloss black plastics though, they really mark up easily and make some detailed aspects look cheap.. but I always enjoy a good looking car...
Isn’t the list price immaterial? I doubt very much that many will wonder through the doors of a BMW showroom and drop £120k of actual money. Most will be on fins and if anything like the M5, heavily discounted.
Thanks Joe for a great comparison. I had an M6 Grand Coupe and now have an M5 Competition you nailed my thoughts on the 2 cars to a T. Grand coupe just special to look at, a really pretty car. The M5 looks tougher but after driving them both the M5 just represented much better value for money, and while all cars depreciate the M6(now discontinued) and the M8(looks like the 6 series replacement) here in Australia get completely smashed on resale. This car is just under $400K here new. Is this crash in resale for the 8 series same in the UK?
Think that they should make a little bit more hp and torque. Because it’s above M5 Comp and others in Bavarian lineup. And beacause it’s better for BMWs marketing. Maybe 650hp and 780Nm
Really great review Joe. Honest appraisal of a bloody expensive, but stunning car. Not that I could afford it, but I wouldn't pick that car for the fuel economy alone, (yes picky I know) but let's face it, you could pass anything on the road, except a petrol station. The panamera Hybrid, or the RS6, with it's cylinder deactivation would mean more bang for your buck. But also more time behind the wheel and not the pump.
I think the 6 Series Gran Coupé looks/looked better than the 8 Series. Ist still very nice, but I miss the sharky Front and the „hofmeister knick“ in the side view.
