Poss the best video out there to explain BMWs tech systems and how they help the rider.

Great educational video. Moved my 1200 adventure on and just grabbed a 1250 40 year jobby. So good to get the modes re-explained as a bit different from my 2015 model and find the TFT a big step forward. Old blokes rock!

Great Presentation Miles ( thankyou) I can endorse your comment about doing BMW rider training as i completed level 1 at Broadford with you a couple of years ago and have been enjoying my GS so much more ever since, as I am no longer intimidated by the bike.

Thanks for taking the time to make this video and explaining the different modes with the emphasis on keeping ABS always on, and recommending the traction control for the Enduro and Enduro Pro for ability. I had moved my modes from Road mode to Dynamic pro for all tarmac rides however after watching this i will revert to Road and save Dynamic and Dynamic pro to the twisties. My off road experience is very low so will stick with enduro and keep the customisable settings to reflect that and set for road tyres as i use intermediates.

Hi Miles and BMW Motorrad thank you so much for the video. As a new rider to Adventurer Bikes and an owner of a 2021 GS I have been too scared to push any buttons out of the factory settings. The information you provided and explanation was easy to understand. Please do more videos. Thanks again.

I can only recommend what Miles has said. Some Offroad training is the best thing you can do for your riding

Thanks for the educational aspects of the BMW GS. I don't own a BMW motorcycle as yet but am looking at various models in the "Adventure range". My present motorcycle is a 2009 Yamaha TDM900 Twin Road bike. One of the safety features of the TDM900 is a lean angle sensor that will cut the engine if it falls over. Do the BMW 850 or 1250 Adventure range motorcycles have this feature? I realise there are some newer 2024 models coming onto the scene soon...but for now it would be handy to know.

Great vid 👌 I've recently parted with my ZX10R after 14 years and 40000 miles, and toured all over the UK and Europe. At 70 it was time to pack up or find something different. I've always been intrigued by the boxer engine and ended up buying a late 06 ( 07 regd ) oilhead. Probably as far away as possible from the GS of today. Mines not Low Tech, its No Tech, not even ABS. Is it asthmatic and under powered, yeah a bit, but true to the original concept of the GS. I love it ! And at 71 ( 72 monday ) do I want to spend £20,000 on a new un .... not really ! The later ones are, for me, way too techy And Heavy. Cheers Roj UK

Cracking good demonstration. Thank you Mate. These are bikes are special. I hope the new generation forthcoming in 23 will represent as good as these R1250’s. What BMW kit are you wearing? Looks great.

Hi, The gear is the new Rallye Pro Suit, its great. The waterproof liners now go over the jacket and pants, so its easy to fit quickly when needed.

Well, perhaps the video-description should include that it doesn't apply to all GS-modells ;-) My 310 GS doesn't have ASC or Riding Modes ;-) But great video, never the less :-)

We baby GS owners must know by now that they're "not a true GS". :-) I love my G310GS. I'd like it better with Road, Rain and Enduro modes and some unobtrusive safety technology borrowed from the big GS, but I'm happy enough with being able to turn off the rear ABS on my 2019 for off road use. I think the ABS button went away on the baby GS in 2022. What's not said is that the baby GS is a lot easier to manage off road. Sure, with enough skill, the 1250GS can be ridden in challenging off road, but it's a lot more work... probably too much for most older riders. The baby GS is inherently more of an off road bike. It's like a dual sport with better street manners which is exactly what I wanted. I've always ridden single cylinder dual sports, but I bought my baby GS a couple of years ago for my 60th birthday. It does everything I need and it's a ton of fun. I really don't want a big, heavy, expensive, complicated 1250GS. What I do want is a 5 gallon fuel tank on my G310GS instead of the 2.9 gallon tank it has. It seems that all of the big motorcycle manufacturers reluctantly made a small ADV bike but the marketing department deliberately crippled it to avoid competing with their large and mid-size ADV bikes. The manufacturers view their smaller ADV bikes as aspirational bikes for the Asian market and beginner bikes for everyone else with their goal being to get a new customer corralled into the brand and on the upgrade path to their larger ADV bikes. Many older riders are deliberately down sizing. The manufacturers need to make a nicer version of their smallest ADV bikes with more features and upgraded specs to make them truly smaller versions of their full size and mid size ADV bikes.

Metzeler Karoo 3. They are great allrounders, for tar and dirt, and very puncture resistant.

I’m a novice off-road rider, but I prefer being able to lock up the back brake to help me turn more sharply on switchbacks. Seems harder without that. Am I missing something?

MD is an expert rider. It would have been useful to see a panic stop minus ABS on the dirt to show how it can be controlled due to rider skill and experience. When he did that panic stop minus ABS on the sealed road, inexperienced riders would have crashed for sure. This video should have been made years ago as it clearly demonstrates how the various settings work.
