Previous owner did the valve cover gasket. Not sure if they did the valvecentric re-learn or not. I did DISA valves, new vanos selenoids, cleaned vanos filters. All codes gone car idles a little funny only when AC is on. Yes I used chinese stuff just because It's my 1st BMW and I'm afraid to dump a ton of money not knowing if I made a mistake buying this car. I will replace them with oem once I'm confident. Car is a 06 330i with 220k miles.

Hey Dean. I have two strange problems with one 128i with N52 engine. When starting hot the car missfires and has bad idle for like 3-4 seconds and after that it runs like a dream. This is every hot start ever. The other is that there is a strange grinding noise coming from the engine compartment. It is definetly not the lifters, I have watched your video. I think it might be the oil filter. When I touch the gas pedal the noise dissapears right away. There are no codes in the DME, I scan with Ista. Thans for your videos !
Mate can you make a video about the E46 318i 2003 engine ? I am having rough idling , scanner showed camshaft sensor , exhaust, ambient temperature, thermal oil-level sensor . I have a 2010 Z4 that in sport or sport+, ac on high, hot summer day DIES randomly when you come to a stop. Starts back up like nothing was wrong. Normal mode no issues.

Hey Doc, I am throwing a P2096 code and had a rough idle. My mechanic changed both upstream 02 sensors, did a smoke test (no leaks) and there is still a rough idle, almost like the throttle is acting like im giving the car gas. Any ideas?
Sounds like you are running a bit rich, could be leaky injectors if there are no vacuum leaks, or it could be related to the MAP sensor on the intake manifold which influences long term and short term fuel trim
Thanks great information! Chinese parts are a sure way to ruin your engine!!! Amazon sells a lot of Chinese parts which have OEM parts manufacturers names on them! I had problems with an oil pressure sending censor. I replace it with a beck Arnley twice, come to find out it was made in Taiwan. So I had three times the work to R&R them, scared the wholly hell out of me on the highway cruising along 90 MPH. Though I had lost all oil pressure and blew out all my oil! There was actually nothing wrong with the my M54! Well I learned to check the country of manufacture on all my parts!!! I was lucky, never buy Chinese parts, Never!!!! Thanks again great info!
I bought cheapo vanos solenoids (no name) for my N52 at first because of codes, but still caused issues and threw vanos codes. Went with OE solenoids (4x price) as recommended by Dean and no codes since :> Parts look very similar but seem to perform very differently.
Hella (German brand) cam shaft sensors (made in China) has worked fine on my E46 though. Guess "no name" parts is no-no if expected quality is yes-yes ;)
there you go my friend and i'm glad you took my advise this is why people see me differently. and everyone can say what they want about me but the fact remains you CANNOT I MEAN CANNOT get away with cheap parts on this engine and people hate me because i tell them the truth. i'm not here to have your cars running like a bag of spanners just to keep you watching and watching to get more views until i decide to put out a video showing your problem LIKE MOST DO !!! i only tell the truth about these engines and what is required to get the most power best fuel economy and the best sounding and performing engine the way it come out the factory. MOST RU-vidR'S will make you use chinese parts just so they can benefit from the clicks and parts bought to fund there own pockets as many of you realise i'm not like that i don't like up all these parts to make you guys click. also alot of these guys on here will fit these cheap parts and then replace them with genuine after the video and not even record it and then say there car "is still running perfect" with the chinese part as there PAID to do them videos
Would any of these issues cause a missfire only when idling and fully warmed up? My car starts and runs fine initially and also runs fine under load but stutters at idle once warm. Above 1000rpm it is fine. Missfire is across all cylinders and has no obvious pattern to it like it does when a coil goes bad etc.

Hi there, I have a Mini with the B37 diesel engine, and something very weird is happening, so after a few hard accelerations the swirl flap will stuck at about -7% no matter what the desire value is, and the turbo will not work (and the acceleration will become very weak) until the car is restarted, what could this be? Great vid as usual mate. Just one thing with the MAF - there IS an issue with these silver top motors (analogue MAF) where the plug can cause connection issues with the MAF itself. It presents itself as a 2d06 or something similar. I had the issue on my N52 (130i). Simply cleaning the MAF, it's terminals and the plug terminals with MAF cleaner and electrical contact cleaner worked for me, but some people need to replace the plug plastic and pins. Very cheap parts, but soldering required. Just thought I'd mention that!

My X5 throws misfire codes and the whole air intake is shaking..what you think on that? Also my 328i has no code but rough idle Nd makes a loud noise like it coming from where the exhaust manifold meets the exhaust pipe

I have a 2013, BMW 128 with only 30K miles. At idle it will randomly make what feels like a mis fire or "shudder" and I can see the tach briefly dip about 150 rpm then bounce back up to normal also, when accelerating in 3rd gear or higher If you open the throttle too much you will also get this shudder or mis fire feeling. If you mash the throttle to the floor it's better...you might get only one 'thunk" and then it runs perfect all the way up to red line. there is no CEL on the dash and scanning the car reveals no codes except for the "dirty air open and close recirculation on air cond" sensor. What the heck is wrong?
Hello. I bought a used BMW 523i N52 F10, 2.5. It came with a bad DME, so I went out and bought a DME which was programmed and fitted. I have a Drive train Malfunction and its showing a Misfire after DT. Would you recommend a Software update on the DME??
Hi Dean I know you don’t answer questions however my timing chain stretched on n53 engine could soilnoids do this ,the car only done 80000 miles did change the soilnoids to one ones after the chain was changed because I was getting codes just point out though didn’t have the car long now I’m wondering if someone had put cheap parts on the car as I thought timing chains were 100% on these engines .

Great video bro, I have a 2004 120i e87(n46) I have rough idle, only seems to do it at 750rpm, seems fine to drive though. I have code p110d (throttle position sensor) does this mean I need to change the accelerator postition sensor/accelerator pedal? I can't find a throttle position sensor anywhere. The ground strap yeah I can see how that's common we left off because I did it although I did not break the map sensor I took that off and put it back properly but yeah I didn't leave that ground strap off. Vanos sylinoids def gotta be my issue thanks bro. Change high and low pressure fuel pump, water pup had it updated and then I noticed the ruff idle vibration. Gotta be the vanos sylinoids.
This is great! I pulled the manifold to replace the DISA valves and the map sensor wire was broken and the mechanic used wire nuts and electrical tape to fix the wire!

Thanks for the video. I have an E60 25i n52, it's cranking but it won't start. I had some cams errors, I replaced the 2 sensors, now the cams errors are gone but I have a p1024 valvetronic error.. the engine is still not starting. Don't know what to try.. Any ideas?
The valvetronic-sensor (it's NOT cheap) can be the problem and when you're already there, a new valvetronic-motor is always better. And try looking at the crankshaft-sensor, the ECU wants to know is the engine rotating.
People talk bad about these engines but I was working on my friends 5.7 hemi which he claims is supper strong and durable but the n52 is built 100% better than that thing
Any ideas for an intermittent vibration at 80mph? Not correlated to rpm, have had the tires road forced balanced and have new wheels. The vibration is very consistent, it phases in and out. ~3s of smooth driving and then ~5s of shaking increasing and then decaying. this cycle repeats while the car is cruising at 80mph.
Might be a broken reluctor ring on one of the drive shafts, which forces the TC to activate the brakes since it reads a speed difference between the rear wheels.
