Yeah not sure if this is still a controversial opinion, but I actually really like the design of that car. Remember how much hate it got when it came out? People were fuming 😂
"The tank is a little bit boxy" Understatement of the century. Each to their own, but I will never understand the design of this. This era of BMW bikes and cars is just dead to me (hate the look of the M4 too, the previous one was gorgeous).
My 1200 Multistrada Enduro Pro is chuckling in the garage. He knows he’s safe with me, and he knows I know, if you know what I mean!! Looking forward to the Lego version of the GSA, as I think it’ll be curvier.
Good grief. For what this behemoth is going to be used for, you might as well buy a goldwing. Added bonus it won’t be back at the dealership for a recall every five minutes either.
Ive had the Golding. I found the seating position of the GSA 1250 much better for long distance riding. Unfortunately the new 1300 footpeg position has gotten more aggressive and isn’t comfortable anymore.
Folks like to hate on the GS. Always have. But when they spend time on one, especially hooning around in the dirt, they change their tune. No difference here. It's taken me a minute to get used to the new front end, but I have. The tank on this is similar to what my 1250 would look like with the crash bar bags on. It's a beautiful, class-leading bike. BMW shows why they've been at the top of this ADV game for 40 years and will continue to be.
Love it. I bought a GS1300 in March and it’s the best bike I’ve ever owned. Brilliant manufacturing. 9500 trouble free miles all over the uk and Europe.
Above everything else here! That BMW E46 CSL M3 is the best! HOLY FUCK. I drove a E46 M3 for about 1K back in the oo's and it was sublime. Fast AF..Closest thing to motorcycle acceleration...Loved it and would own one...Well Jell...
if you cover the headlight section its absolutely stunning and utilitarian. All they need to do is to make those fog lights much much bigger and make it a triple headlight like aprilia or possibly add a metal headlight cover to draw attention away from the center. The side cargo panel is brilliant though because we have been hanging bags on the crash bars for years and its like a modern adaption of it, rather like on the new defender.
It's just not wide enough! Ah, problem solved ... lash some bags on the 'tank'! They've added coffee cup holders (?) and yet it's the Jeep of bikes, meant to stray into the wilds, where Starbucks has yet to land. Some people just have too much money.
One question I have is regarding the seat on the GSA versus the GS. It appears to be more of a flat profile front to back where the GS seat seems sloped forward towards the tank. Did you notice this or was that the tall seat on the bike, which I believe is a bit flatter Than the mid or low seat. I have the 1300 GS and the seat just constantly has me sliding forward and I purchased an aftermarket adjustment set of bumpers to raise the front of the seat which has helped a bit. Regarding the looks, BMW does an excellent job of making their older bikes look obsolete when they release a newer style and each time the newer style is a bit out there, but it translates to being the new bike which is instantly recognizable by all of those in the know. Case closed. Case
It did for me when I saw one at a bike meet where a Suffolk Motorrad dealer had set up a stand. Don't think it was exactly this spec, but I liked it instantly and I told the dealer it's a GS I would consider purchasing in the near future.
Taking delivery of ny R1250 GSA tomorrow, want the R1300 GSA to be around for while before I buy due to the problems with the boxes, leaking suspension, etc etc don't want to be a test rider for BMW unless they pay me but it does look nice in green.
I chyme with your opening comment “It’s so ugly, It’s disgusting” The king is in the all together, he’s altogether as naked as as the day that he was born 😂
Looks high quality utilitarian like all previous GSAs, not sure if any were meant to be "pretty bikes", just appealing through function or being exclusive. So a great bike; tend to think I'd go for something a lot lighter if doing varied terrain adventures but it's all high fashion.
I don’t really look at the bikes I ride much. I have the camhead GSA, and I am not super excited about the way it looks, but it is fine. The new one looks okay to me. As long as it rides fine and is durable and reliable, I am good,
Glad to hear I'm not the only one who found trying to work out exact specs far from straight forward or obvious when I had a play around with the configurator a wee while back. Will be interested to hear what opinions are, once the on road launch takes place.
I still get the Landrover defender feeling on the 'coffeecup' trays. I don't know if I'm the only one, but it really looks like the sides next to the bonnet of the defender
No, you still can't specify what you want, on the configurator. If you e.g. start with a 'Tri Black, and want a high windshield, you are automatically forced to take the Trophy colors. Only if you leave another stack of money at the dealer, they will offer you whatever you want., take half of it apart and than make it how you like Even a big white windscreen with the extra transparent fender is not possible. Than you need to get the tinted windscreen. Ridiculous!
this green one looks pretty decent. I think if you painted those aluminium front luggage panels the same colour as the bike it would improve the looks. those panels being aluminium jars a bit.
I had the gsa 1200 te and never had such bad road noise through the fork tunnel, had to buy better ear plugs to make it bearable, only bike I ever had that on🤨 good to see they’ve addressed that issue.
One of those bikes that looks better in the flesh, the pdf video kinda looked questionable but it definitely looks better here in this footage tbh, I particularly like the blue one that you showed in the intro. Not sure why the dislike of the option 719 apart from it being two tone? When I purchased my MY22 1250gsa I ticked the shadow pack option 719 mirrors, levers, reservoirs and pegs/brake and shifter and I’ve never regretted it and so much better than the standard mirrors in my opinion. To each their own of course. I’m just a fan of milled metal parts and carbon fibre 😁 Can’t wait for your first ride video Chris! 👍🏻
Just bought a 2005 f650gs My Ultra Classic is in the shop. I’m kind of smitten with this little thumper I can take in the pasture or to the store or backroads twistyys. But this beast screams hooligan supreme! Enjoy it !!!!!
JFC, a bike so big it has blind spot warning! How does a motorbike have a blind spot? Or are they just assuming the average rider is so old that their vertebrae are all fused?
My problem with is that i dont think the slim normal gs front, that they were so proud of, mesh well with the boxy side. The sides would probably need to flow forward towards the beak or something for it to look ok.
Answering the REAL questions. Thank you. Really curious about the rear collision control not working outside of the EU. Obviously for legal reasons, but I'd love to know more as to why.
I like it, was a bit of a shock to start with but it quickly grew on me. Makes the older 1200/1250 look very dated when you compare them side by side This is why European bike manufacturers are doing so well compared to Japanese. They are willing to push the boundaries and be bold. The Japanese big four just keep turning out the same old thing and are definitely been left behind. Well done BMW 👏
„eye catching“ & „interesting“, - say no more. We get it, and yes, BMW gets it, too. Might as well say what you really wanted to say? Unless, you fear to lose future BMW invitations. The tech pieces? Sure, BMW has grown over time. Good stuff. Most of the consequential pieces are already available on the 1250. Adaptive height, only one box locks centrally, the automatic, etc. - thankfully, all optional! I‘m curious to see how many people will spec any of this stuff. Main developments? The elephant ears on the crash bars. BMW accidentally(?) wrecked the highway peg industry. They added a tank-based Starbucks platform. Thus, the tank-mounted luggage must be for creamer and sugar.
Yikes, they put blind spot indicators on those garbage mirrors so now it'd be a bit weird to take them off. Hands down one of if not the worst oem mirrors I've ever used.
I like the new adventure, not so much the standard GS, but the new Adventure does look nice. I just picked up a used 2017 Adventure and if I had the money would upgrade to this, but still do love my 2017 (im a sucker for the analogue clocks) Thanks for the video, ride safe!
BMW has completely lost the plot, yes looks are subjective but any RU-vidr that says this looks good must just be worried about BMW benefits being taken away. I honestly think it gets worse the more you look at it 💩
Looks better seeing your video and you sitting on the bike shows what it looks like from the cockpit view and a simple colour change on those aluminium panels on the front of the bike and most people probably wouldn't have moaned at all about the appearance. Waiting now for your road test.....
Where's the winch ? ...BBQ And Toaster/Microwave combo. Please mention The Gross Vehicle Weight with paniers. oh wait: 522 Pounds! The 1250's were over the top already. Can you stand it back up if them little foot-rest things are in a bit of a dip ? Or is that what the SOS button is for ? And let's face it: With the average age of Mc'ers about 50; most Adv Bikes only see gravel FSR roads with a few water-bars; you know: places you can drive a pick-up truck. So: its for cruising gravel ...where 100 Kph is kinda rude. Practically; I'm about 60-80Kph on my ktm390 -370 Pounds... Some may say ktm390? but you could buy Five of 'em for the price of this thing. I don't get it. Please put sticky tires on it and take us for a track-day.
managed to have a go of the r1300gs and it was such a good bike, however the quickshifter was a little troublesome ... had to be accurate clicks and no hesitant on the throttle otherwise it jerks a lot.... great capable bike though
I absolutely love the boxy/tanky design for adv bikes. In this case I must admit that this design would look way better with 21"/18" wheels. Those small wheels sounds a little bit ridiculous.
I am not a GS fan in general mainly because of the boxer twin which I feel sticks out too far. That said the GS is far better looking than the GSA. But each to their own if you like it you’ll buy it and I hope you have many years of trouble free riding.
The tech still isn't to the level of the Multi then? One thing that is a benefit of the BMW is the TPMS being OE and, at least on the older version, always displayed on the dash.
I like the looks of the new GSA, the Internet is wrong, as usual. I won't be buying one until there are good 2nd-hand version available though as they are too expensive for me new.
So here's the big question I couldn't yet find any answer to: What does so very different about the boxy R1300 GS Adventure that one basically not spec an R1300 GS to? (With the Endure pro package and the sport suspension and whatever other features available on the GS) Wouldn't a full on Enduro spec R1300 GS (being slightly lighter and slightly shorter) end up making a slightly better 'adventure" and off-road bike than the actual R1300 GS Adventure?
I don’t hate it as much as I first did. It is growing on me. I like more of it than I hate. I don’t think it’s a better looking design than the 1250. I don’t think it’s worse, it’s just different. The boxy look is pretty cool. The green is very nice. The black looks great. I know it will ride beautifully. But, I’ll never be able to afford it lol, not for a while anyway. lol.
Does look better than the single angle initial photo, that did it no favours. All gs mod gs models look 'lovely to their mothers', but it's functional. Glad you told us why the 'eye catching' front aluminium bits exist 👍🏻I like the 1300 btw !
