BMW R1150RT Broke Down after 10 miles - Restore coming up...

Bought this as a fairly cheap bike. Wanted one for a while and this turned-up. So I bought it, got an MOT, taxed, insured and rode 10 miles from the dealers and it just stopped! Wouldn't start...

Ken here, the thing that's all taped up should be plugged into the part you take off the ABS pump it operates the brake light. Maybe the wires you have taken out. Problem is the brake switches are normally open. The bit that's missing converts it to normally closed or the other way round but makes the brake light work.

Thanks. The brakes lights seem to work okay and when I've been watching some videos after you mentioned the ABS earlier, I notice that where than whole assembly would sit ahead the battery is completely missing on mine so no ABS as you suggested.

What is the mileage on your new project? I'm sure you will find it will be rewarding getting it running nicely . Better without the ABS! I have a 2002 1150 gsa currently at 168000 kilometers and running great 👍 glad to help with any problems/questions. Good luck.

43000 miles. Thanks for the offer of help! I've ordered a new battery, and managed to get a stock exhaust today as they have put an after market one on that sounded loud in not a nice way...

I asked about the mileage thinking about the Hall effect transmitter, can be troublesome around 50k. A chip from John Gemi made a difference to my 1150 especially ironing out any surging .

@@srtmapledene Yeah, I'm guessing there will be a number of things that aren't right... if not now, probably soon. I had read about the Hall things and so will keep that in mind. Thanks. There is a little mild surging when riding along but not that obvious so far.

Hello. I didn't keep the bike long enough to say but boxer engines do require top up occasionally between services in my experience.

1 Hall sensor (wiring) 2 tps/ synchronization of throttles.

Yeah, thanks. I think it was the battery as after replacing for new, it has started every time as long as I have the side-stand up :-)

Thanks. I think it's the battery that isn't holding charge - new one ordered! It starts if you do it just after it's recharged.

It was as simple as a new battery as the old one wasn't holding its charge.
