Hi guys and first of all welcome back to my channel .I had a chance today to have a go on the new bmw 1250 gs shift cam . Stay tune till the end and find out what the answer to the question is " should i swap" my curent gs for the new one? This is not a review of the bike coz in the amount of time i had is impossible to fully review a bike so therefore is just my impressions about it . Let me know what you think in the comments below

I just traded a 2014 Multistrada on the 1250 GSA and I love it. Doesn’t have the HP but it does have my old Duc on torque. I felt the same way about the newer Multistrada with the DVT (mine was pre DVT). Great bikes but now worth upgrading for given the considerable cost to do so. My reasons for switching was I wanted to get away from chain maintenance and I wanted the fuel range of the GSA. I probably would’ve been happy with the Multistrada 1260 Enduro but didn’t really want chain maintenance when touring. Also, I think BMW has the best TFT display and I love the integration with the NAV 6.

Just got 1250 upgraded from explorer. Test ride both 1200 and 1250 - there is a huge difference - I love the 1250 it’s a 1200 on steroids !

Great review! I was looking to trade in my Triumph Tiger for the R1250GS, but decided not to do it... For months I'm looking at GS-reviews, and they almost always have the same 2 things in common, first; they all love their bikes, and second; they all had issues! In my opinion a bike should at least be free of issues, during the first 65.000 miles! I'm riding my second Triumph (about 12-13.000 miles a year) in all weather conditions, and in all these years, only once, I had to try a couple of minutes to ge it started in the midst of winter. I really like the GS, and I would like to have a little more torque, but I really depend on my bike all year, and the Tiger 1200 is no option (To top heavy, to high), so the only option is to stick with the Tiger 800.

Thanks a milion buddy. Agree with you... Most of the people indeed love their gs but 99% unfortunately had problems with them...... I was absolutely shuttered when my one blown the gearbox this year knowing i had planed the trip of my life for a year and all went bust in a second but on the other side i'm glad it didn't happened on pamir higway :)

@Baron glad to hear positive feedback. I think it depends on how you use your bike in what condition and what style of rideing you have(maybe) bear in mind i have more then 60000 km in two years

They're the best selling bike in Europe... maybe even the world, more forums, more chat ... more issues per head ... all relative. The problems are shite I agree but nothing rides like a GS ... nothing .. I can't be without mine 🤣🤘🏻🤘🏻

The 1250 is smoother compared to my 2016 GSA. Front brakes are better on the 1250 and it handles better. The power and delivery is noticeable. But, getting back on my GSA I preferred the less hectic throttle response. It's like BMW have spent a year on the Multistrada. Tried the 1260 Multistrada, handles better, brakes better, gearbox & quickshifter, both better. But you can still feel the slight V-twin thrum - that might put some people off. Feels and handles like a dirtbike compared to my GSA, but it's almost 30kg lighter - so no surprise. Lucky enough to own a Monster 1200 too. Given the choice I ride the Monster more. The GSA is for longer trips. Odd thng to say, but the GSA is almost a bit bland. Before anyone says about reliability and build-quality. Monster better put together and no issues. Issues with my GSA after 18 months.

Agree with you all the way! To smooth to responsive lack of boxer character. Glad you enjoy the monster. Will pop in a ducati dealer tomorrow to have a chat about multistrada 1260... Maybe i will ask her to dance with me for a bit :)

I am quite loyal to the GS, but the new Multi is very good. I also found the seat on the Multi more comfortable. Apparently Ducati are working on a V4 engined Multi, smaller capacity and de-tuned compared to the Panigale v4. That could be amazing.

Well....talking about issues Ducati is my winner in this. Bought a brand new Monster 821 in 2015. This thing let me down more than once, didn't start....in the midle of a crowdy market center town. It was a short marriage. Looks good, but reliability was a dissaster.

I liked v much the intro.Now,if you have already the gsa 1200 there is no need to change for the obvious reasons.But if you don't then it may worth set aside the high purchase price

I just brought home a R1250GS Adventure. I think it's cool people who've been riding these bikes for some time think they would probably keep them. Maybe this is why the BMW motorcycle resale value stays high? I have no BMW experience and I'm hoping this is a good one.

From my experience most important thing in ownership of a bmw motorcycle is your relationship with the dealer coz bmw bikes like others bike is not a fault free bike.

I believe I heard somewhere this is caused by supply issues, Brembo had them in the warehouse, they are a proven product, why not.

Dad issues with my gs1200, 2016, went in 3 times, nice bike to ride , but price not justified with issues they have , for that money I expect reliability, and this 1250, with all the elecronic wizzadry , I can only see massive issues

same thing. no upgrade... old breaks have better performance. 99% of tasks I need 1200 GS is more than ok. id better buy an XR or husquarna supermoto.... just for fun.

I would absolutely recommend you get the remap done from here in the uk... Google the company ... "Hilltop motorcycles" ... they do a dyno test before and afterwards, but will do worldwide postal service also .🌝 18 % more torque and horsepower for around £350. My son had his gs done last year and he is delighted with it since .

You won't really feel the torque or hp difference between 1200 and 1250. Maybe riding them back to back, but even so, not worth the trade. Unless you had a 2016 model 1200 and you hated te awful (warm) idle sound of the engine and horrible clunky gearbox. Then, it makes a big difference...

The biggest difference between them and the most noticeable one is the smoothness of the engine of the 1250 in my opinia and then the throttle response on 1250 is way more sharp than 1200 gs

Hey Ferry, if it wasn't for the history you have with your current bike, and it wasn't about the money, and if you walked in to a bar, oops, different story, if you walked into a bike shop and could buy a '18 R1200GS Rallye or the new '19 R1250 HD, which one would you walk/ride out with please? To be honest with you i had both versions GS/GSA and i always loved the adventure over the GS. But the answer to your question is .... I will walk out with the rally coz for me that bike is stil a boxer engine with character and that was what made me fall in love with the bike

I've got a rallye 1200 GSA, 18 plate, bought in April and currently 12 thousand miles on it. I took the 1250 GS out last Saturday, funnily enough from Cannons too, This new shiftcam..... Its clever BMW marketing hype. The variable valve is purely for the EU5 emissions, The fact is produces a few more horses is a bonus. Its not worth trading in for it. Also, It wasn't any smoother than my Rallye, clutch or GSAP.

Hello, if it was me i would buy the last gen because if it had problems they where sorted and i think you can get a better deal on one in stock than a brand new order. Good luck.

The front brakes are Brembo.

They may be made by brembo or some other company but the end costumer doesn't know that or see that. One this is for sure.... They work and that's the most important thing

Wrong. Front brakes are Hayes, no longer Brembo. Look on the inside of the brake caliper. It is written on there.

Go get your self a xr1000 I demo both these bikes and wouldn't take them for free the xr 1000 murdered them in every way.

Rider of Nye ive been riding over 10 years and had em all including HP4 carbon. The GSA is best bike in the world in my opinion but it’s fit for purpose. An everyday bike with great presence and 2 big European bike tours every year where I’m doing on average 400 miles a day. Nothing can compete with the GS Adventure. Sports bikes for track and naked bike for occasional rides.
