Not sure how I missed this a month ago, but glad I found it now. I have only 6500 miles on my R1250R in three years, but am just as pleased and enthusiastic as you about the bike…best bike by far of the many I’ve owned.

Thank you Ricky. I can share your experiences as I have exactly the same bike, and for 18 months now (21 reg). Sometimes regret not getting the adventure, but I do like the thrill of a naked bike, hey it is a bike. Fairings etc make it more like a two wheel car. No problems with mine, and it is a superb comfortable ride, and it has outstanding acceleration from low gear. Not ridden it on the track like you, but on the road it excels in low rev torque. It handles and steers well on the twisties. I feel I have a power house between my legs which feeds in to me in its handling, The bike and I are one. It is, for me, the epitome of a motorbike in its raw definition.

Great info Rikky and glad you are still liking the bike. As for panniers, I went for Shad, best thing I've done for a while, they really do match up well to the OEM ones in my opinion, at a significantly lower price. Just have to have another key. I'm always amazed at how well the bike (and you!) do on track days. Would frighten the bejeezus out of me!
Thanks John, well that's two votes for Shad panniers from two chaps called John! I will certainly look into them! I have to be honest with myself and say that the R1250R is making me look like a better rider than I am! The ECU/traction control is really taking care of me on the track... turn it all off and I'm sure I'd be several seconds slower per lap.
Thank you for this Ricky. I had a similar run down battery warning on the 'keyless' key. Struggled to open the case. Rang BMW and they said 'Use brute force.' I did and had no issue changing the battery. I do agree, the bike rides superbly. Always in control, comfortable and fast. I followed a Suzuki GSX1000R the other day, and he accelerated hard to overtake a lorry. Had no trouble keeping pace when following through, except he decided to go way above the speed limit. so ultimately left me.
These are such underrated bikes Malcolm, maybe one day they'll be recognised for the great machines they are! Thanks for the heads up about the keyless fob 👍
Great Video! I've had mine for nearly 12 months now and am just as happy. Btw go for the BMW side cases, they're amazing. Super easy to put on and take off, allowing for over 100 miles an hour speeds and are waterproof. I used mine for travelling through Croatia for 2 weeks and they served me well! 700€ well spent!
Thank you for your message! Yes I'm still loving the bike, but I've been having some fun with side cases recently! In fact in my latest video today I explain why I've gone down from Shad 36l cases to a pair of Shad 23l cases! I found that the bigger cases just stick out too far for comfort... and that was just on my Kawasaki 300! I think the little Shads and my top box will be enough on the Kawi and my BMW, plus I'd still have space on my pillion seat if needs be 😊 I hope you keep on enjoying your R1250R!
re seat - I got an upholsterer to take the cover off and put a thin layer of the new type of soft memory foam on mine , retained the original cover and it transformed the seat...happy bum
Your comments are quite interesting. I started with a 2011 R1200r. I loved the bike and in classic chrome and black and a crowd pleaser. Yet above 60 mph my bike vibrated like crazy. So it was on to the S1000xr 2019 with the old RR engine which was a true hooligan. It did overheat several times and after two years I did trade to a 2021 S1000xr which was absolutely perfect: fast smooth and extremely reliable. Yes it was boring and I found myself missing the R1200r for the grunt, sound (yes, that tractor engine that is often criticized). So, a 2024 R1250r is being ordered with the works and with the partial water cooling jacket should keep the bike for overheating when in heavy traffic. It has a seat heater now and that's great. My only gripe is the new bike will have that chrome trash can that is just ridiculous in size.
Good review. I had zip ties on my foot pegs for a while too. I was easily able to rivet new ones. The phone connection was an annoyance for me as well. The dealer updated the TFT software and the issue went away.
Thanks for your comment - I keep meaning to ask the local BMW shop to see if my bike could have its TFT updated but I keep forgetting! I'll get it done and fingers crossed it will improve things.
Great overview Rikky and similar reason to why I had one...the torque of that boxer is awesome! I had the '17 1200r and loved it but sadly knocked off by a lazy driver in June 20 and written off...I bought mine as a tourer for my wife and I (mt10 for me only!) We did about 11000 miles in 15 months with 2500 miles in 12 days, she thought it was very comfy at the back. However we now have a speed twin but currently trying to sell it to get another BM! The speed twin is a cracking bike and we've put 13000 miles on that in 12 months but there's a tad more room for her on the back with the R.

Great thorough review Rikky, I am expecting mine roughy around Christmas as I am told it’s not even on the production line yet. Like yourself I am an ex S1K owner so I have been following your channel for some great advices. I have had a lot of great fun, memories but after 17000 miles and find myself aching and tired after a long day’s ride so that’s why I have made the move. Didn’t like the look of this bike one bit when I was given it the first time as a complementary bike while waiting for the annual service but has grown on me after 3 rides. I will definitely put on the loud horn and extra lights. I will add softer panniers too as I have once reversed my car into my loaded versys and cracked the n/s hard cases to pieces. I think soft panniers can act as good side protectors and much easier to manoeuvre. Keep your videos coming looking forward to choosing my new plate and turning the key the first time.

BMW has cancelled my ordered due to the current model has ceased production to make way for the new R1300R model. Don't know it's good or bad news, should feel excited but at the same time might not like the new look, new ergonomics, new engine which is prone to teething problems or am I just worrying too much and should be jumping up and down like a kid waiting for his new toy? Hopefully it will be out in the flesh at the NEC bike show in Nov.
@@desorch Wow that is a shocker to have your order cancelled. I can certainly see how you can be conflicted about the situation. I suppose if you don't like the look, or other aspects of the new R1300R than there will be a new R1250R available somewhere to buy in showrooms if you phone around. This post is the strongest confirmation I've seen regarding the R1300R so I'm excited!

nice review..i just bought a 12R and the seat ( low from what I can ascertain from the 4 available - and overpriced for what they - are ) options is awful ..compared to my 1100s seat...I am going to get it redone. But the gearbox is really nice (compared to any of my older BMs ) and it is wonderfully smooth at all speeds..

I've got this bike for almost 2 years, have 21000km on the clock, the km's will tell you how much fun I'm having, best bike I've owned so far and not about to change it, the purr, the raw, then goes like a mini misile, the adrenaline..Wow😂 the one thing I've never done is wheelie this bike, I really want to can someone help with tips, please 🙏 I'm sure it's Gona be awesome
Great review 😊 I was watching many of your videos. But my english ist not so perfect. But many things I can understand. I have a general question. Yesterday I rode the new BMW R1250R for the first time and am therefore at the beginning of the running-in phase. I don't rev above 5000 until 1000 km and have a consumption of 6.0 litres according to the display. That seems very high for this style of riding. Is consumption higher during the running-in phase? The motorbike is fun. Hopefully the running-in phase will soon be over :-) But now the weather is starting to suit here :-)
Hello Ullii, thank you for your rmessage and for trying to understand my English language! In the UK we use Miles Per Gallon (MPG). If you mean that you are seeing 6l per 100km that converts to 47.4 UK MPG which does sound on the low side. I think my fuel consumption was actually very good during the running in process... closer to 4.8L per 100km. Now it's closer to 5.4l/100km as I use all the revs 😁 If the fuel consumption does not improve I think it is worth speaking to your BMW dealer.
I purchased a low mileage 2016 R1200RS last fall and have put over 5,000 miles on it. I have decided to keep it for a while and followed your aftermarket exhaust adventures. Question: if a 2015/16 slip on fits on later models, I assume a 2017 slip on will fit the 2016. It should be quieter due to Euro 4 compliance?
Wonderful detailed review Rikky. Did you think of solving that wiring problem somehow? Now that you mentioned it, I really don't like it. :) Probably there should be a possibility to secure those bad wire endings there. p.s. Drop by when have time. There are some videos that might interest you. :)
Hi RRR, I think there could be a way of adding some insulation around the wires to protect them. I won't really ride it in bad weather so they wires should survive OK in my ownership 😊😊
Good review. I want to know how is the wind at highways speeds compared to other naked bikes? I think this is the best option from BMW if you want a naked all rounder bike.
I appreciate the reviews, but that said I think it is important to remember that the r1250r is not intended to be an Aprilia Tuono or an mt-10. I've owned the Aprilia and it really doesn't function well as a all around motorcycle; those bikes feel like race bikes and aren't pleasurable unless you go batshit crazy, while the r1250r is always pleasurable, and 99% of the Riders on the Tuono could not keep up with me if I were on the r1250r so I would say the BMW is a pretty cool Naked Bike solution.
Hi Rikky. I've enjoyed your posts on the BMW R1250R. I've owned a 2020 for about 6 months and love the bike and agree with your likes and dislikes. However I wondered if you have heard of a starting problem with the 1250 engine where it won't turn over similar to if it had a bad batter. My battery is good and this happens when the bike is warm at which time it throws erroneous fault messages. I think the decompression mechanism on the exhaust cam is sticking thus preventing the starter from pushing through the 12.5 to 1 CR. Have you heard of similar problems? Hi Monty, I am sorry for the slow reply! I have to say that I have not heard of the starting issue that you mention. I won't suggest that you double check the battery because it sound like you have you have ruled this out. I really hope that you get to the bottom of this issue and it doesn't spoil your overall experience with this great bike!
I have the same bike (2021). Yes occasionally I get barmy fault messages when starting. One put the wind up me about an ABS failure. However the bike handled fine, and I only got it the once. I now ride the bike twice a week, even for a shortish distance. Keeps the battery primed. Had a BMR100T a long time ago. The battery struggled on a cold start.
Great review. Great review. I'm thinking of replacing my BMW F900XR with either an R1250R or GS. The GS is more great in everything, but the R probably smells more to me... What do you think? I guess I prefer naked bikes :-)
Hi Daniel and thank you for your comments! It's a tricky choice... I have ridden a 1250GS and it is very impressive! And you have the bonus of some off road ability too. But like you I also really like naked bikes 😊 Having said that, I've spent the last three years on big naked bikes and so next time I might have to change things up a bit! So in the end I have not helped you very much sorry 😂😂
I have had the handguards on the bike for quite a long time now and I don't notice and noise coming from them. They are aftermarket ones designed for the GS that I think are the same as these www.ebay.co.uk/itm/402312784503
It's hard to know the reason - certainly in my opinion I think bike manufacturers should have moved onto the industry standards (Android Auto and Apple Carplay) by now.

I am sorry for the late reply but I'm happy that you have you new bike now!! For me the best solution is to remove the screen altogether. You get some more wind pressure, but less buffeting and wind noise. I didn't want to admit it but riding without the screen is the best way for me!
@@RikkyTang Hello Ricky. Thanks for the reply. I think I can't remove it, as I order the bike with this small screen on, and the base of the screen (brackets) differ from the regular one. (I don't know how to attached a photo here 🙄). If I remove it, the attached brackets remain on the bike as part of the R1250R sign. above the headlight.
Do you think is there a difference between r1200r and r1250r as far as service maintenance like the kind of engine oil number brake pads spark plugs final drive oil number etc… so would you think other than the engine size and the tft the rest is same even the bolts for example oil drain plug tightened torque example 41 foot pound torque ranch etc… thanks for your videos
There are many similarities between the R1200R and 1250R however I don't know the specific details of the differences. I do know that the front brake calipers changed manufactuers at least once. I'd expect most torque values would be the same but the best place to ask these questions would be forums such as www.r1200rsforum.com/ and www.r1200rforum.com/forums/ There is a torque settings list for the 1200 bikes somewhere on one of these two forums. Hi there, I'm sorry to hear that you are having some problems with your motorbike. I have not had any problems with the bike running at low RPM. I would perhaps check that the spark plugs look correct and don't have evidence of fouling/not firing.
Hi. Bmw motorcycle owner and mechanic here. If you are having a problem with vibration from the engine you might have a throttle body balance issue, valve clearance... Take it to the dealership ask them to check the valve clearance and throttle body vacuum. Those are both things that can lead to weird vibrations considering your mileage.
Did you ever have problems with back spray from rear tire with water or dirt ? I've seen a few people comment about that in forums. Some say they didn't some did.
Yes for me, the back of the bike gets plastered with muck when riding in the rain! I have a Mudsling but that is really just designed to protect the rear shock (still recommended though). The muck comes up over the back of the bike too and the only solution I've found for that is to have a top box on the bike when riding in the rain. I've not bothered with a hugger because they don't seem to make much of a difference from what I've seen on the forums. EDIT. I also fitted the Australian market wider mudguard, didn't make any real difference!
Well that sucks, I'm in Florida and daily ride. I ride in the rain often so this is a no go for me. My daily is a CB500X now and don't have this problem. That bums me out, I was really wanting this bike. Thanks for the reply.
I never noticed any heat coming off those cylinders to be honest. On the hottest days just being on a motorbike isn't much fun, but heat specifically around my feet wasn't a big issue.
If you're a customer at Cotswold BMW they use a guy called Tony James design who does PPF (paint protection film ) he did my GS and did a first class job and it's virtually invisible. Can't recommend him enough 👍
So I demo’ed an R1250R and an R1250GS today. The gs, man, those handlebars are high, I don’t think I would find that comfortable for long rides, ironic as it is so popular for touring. The R1250R; you’re spot on about the seat, I could see it being the limiting factor for comfort, or lack there of, on longer rides. I was also surprised that it’s ergo’s are not too different to my R Nine T. I also noticed an odd vibration/sensation at low speeds, in first gear. Must be a characteristic of this drivetrain. Oddly, I didn’t recall it on the GS, was probably there, though. The motor is pretty nice, though. I definitely preferred the R1250R to the GS.

The dealer replaced the battery but did not inspire my confidence that they really addressed the problem. I have my camera poised to document future occurrences. I'm curious if you think that a decent wind screen could ever be found for the bike. Do you think the Puig Touring Screen with a wind deflector on top would work? I do love the bike and plan to see through the starting issue. I think it's the decompression mechanism is sticking in the exhaust valve.
