I just bought one yesterday. Biggest bike I’ve ridden and I think I’m in love. Great engineering and sexy in black and chrome. Very comfy, it’s like a big scooter. Effortless riding.
I ride big tourers all year every day. I'm a massive fan of handlebar muffs. I have a set of Give muffs that have been on my 1997 trophy, my 2013 trophy and are now on my bmw k1300gt. They fit well and you soon get used to the complex switch patterns inside the muffs. I'm on the bike at least an hour each way to work. Nice dry and warm hands
Hi mate! I own not one but two of these. Love them both. The one with light switch is a former HP the other does not have it and comes with integrated radio cassette (kids ask your dads what is that?) in all respects these tourers are worth every used penny. If you know basic maintenance skills they are also cheap to operate and lastly, I never have second thoughts about long hauls as these engines are best of class. Current mileage are 116K (HP) 46K civilian. Planning on keeping until either she/her/hers stop working or he/him/his cannot ride any more.
So its possible to maintain themself i am handy with the tools just never had beemer i got a chance to trade my gsxf750 plus some money on my side but it looks great just a bit scared of bmw
Just collected my new (for me) R850RT. When I first saw it I wonderd if I was ever able to shift it ! It took an amazing short learning cycle and I'm hooked, what a pleasure to ride !
The older R1100 R* did not have linked brakes, they may have ABS but gen 1. Which is actually a lot easier maintenance wise. A nasty 1150 problem is the clutch/inputshaft. Chris Harris has made some very good videos about this. For me that is one of the reason to have a R1100 RS in stead of a R1150 **. This is a problem that came with the 6 speed gearbox. They are nice bikes, very stable, good front brakes yet they have their share of problems. My advise: search RU-vid for these issues. Many are not too difficult or too expensive to rectify. For touring I still prefer my ST1100...
Thank you Mark. I really like the fact that you go over the good and the bad. I'm looking at a very low mileage 1150 as my first BMW. Not my first road bike mind you as I've been riding for 49 years. Just my first go at owning a Beemer.
I loved my R1150RT, probably one of my favourite bikes ever… fortunately i was warned about the dual braking system before test riding my first RT by the dealer… and as a consequence i rode accordingly and thought it was brilliant. As for the indicator switch gear, i absolutely loved it, so much so that when BMW abandoned them in newer models i lost interest in BMW bikes.
I can't get rid of my 2004 1150RT, like it too much for the same reasons you cited. Yeah the gear shifter & side stand design is not great, also the right side brake peddle was tiny so I got an enlarged add-on to fix that issue.
Great video. I have the exact same bike , even the colour LER where did you manage to find the enlarged back brake peddle , Iv been looking for one. Cheers.
@@johnstorrie410 -- It seems I don't throw anything away! I found the invoice from A&S BMW Roseville, CA dated 2005, 1-916-726-7334. The part is probably not in inventory now?? Good Luck
Ive had a ST1300 like you but had to sell to raise cash for a car. Really miss it! Beast of bike, not that its all about speed but Ive defo been quicker on that thing than any sports bike I’ve owned. The thing could go fast anywhere! Roads where a 600 would complain and lose traction. Am thinking now of getting a cheaper older tourer, this and the st1100 are the main two I’m looking at. Have you ridden the 1100? Any thoughts on the comparison with the RT1150? Both very similar bikes on paper.
Very well done review. A cool machine. I like the styling of this one. Do you still have the bike? How many miles/km did you cover till now? How it performed? Got my like bro.
Many thanks bud They are good bikes and will just go and go with serving and a little love There's many bike reviews on my channel all worth a watch I don't but it was good
It just takes a little getting used to and a while pressing your horn !! Pmsl After riding for 40 years and many hundreds and bikes it's just different Plus when it dark ,wet and cold with think gloves!!!
6:35 I owned my R1150R for more than ten years before they stole it in front of my windows. Got an R1150RT now. Tell you what. After all those years, I cannot get used to the braindead scheme of indicating. A 1980 Yamaha XS400 rules in that respect.
Ironically I am watching this almost a year to the day you posted it. Am wondering how you got on after 12 months of ownership as like you, I am rather addicted to bikes, and am actively thinking of an 1150RT. Especially as they are currently so cheap.
Hi Mark, been looking at your video's, very entertaining and informative. Here's my question. Me and my wife are looking to get a tourer. I have owned the 650 Burgman, the Honda Silverwing, a BMW R1200RT, a BMW r1150RS a V-Strom 1000 plus a few others. This is my wife's first time to join me so the bike has to be sensible and capable. I saw your ST1300 review which checks out well but still not decided. On my potential shopping list is a BMW K1200GT, a BMW K1300GT, another R1200RT and maybe the Pan. I find the looks of the RT1150 a bit dated and I have heard disaster stories on the R1200RT's ABS module failures and fuel gauge issues. Thinking about us, what bike might you consider appropriate, I am a long term biker in my 60's and my wife in her mid 50's. Appreciate any advise. Thanks Rich
Have a look at the trophy 1215 video on my channel plus the long 285 mile trip to Isle of white Gs as good but pricey and but the wife loved it as in my pillion video Pan get great reviews but heavy and do seem old lol K1200 worth a look I'd take the wife and both sit But I do have loads of videos that might help
Hi Mark, My lights have stopped working apart from the indicators and brake light, but they all work with a lead of the battery. It has a new battery and I seem to be having charging problems? Could you please give me some idea as to what is wrong with it. Thanks.
All in great weather protection from the wind rain and cold Carry loads of things in the luggage 180 plus mile per tank Good road presents Easy to control and use every day Easy to service check out my service video One down side and you dont buy a RT for it, they are not a fun bike with loads of speed ! Thats it I like having it Have a test ride bud as cheap now Have a watch of my pan st1300 , trophy , and fjr videos all good tourers
@@marksavage haven't been riding it a lot, because of the weather. Still learning the bike, but i will share my experiences asap! Had to put the riding height a little bit up, , better for my back, and the turning signals are also something to get used to.the heating in the grips are very welcome in this time of year. brakes are something to recon with. they brake very hard on my bike. got the original bmw cases on it. and i like the torque. this is a bike to ride on torque, completely different than a 4 cyl. been riding some standing twins, like cb500's, after that cb750F2, yzf750, and GTS1000. This BMW has a lot of character.(and it is a nice present for my upcoming 50th birthday) thx for the video! i enjoyed watching it!
That's not helping Steve !!!!, not helping at all pmsl I wonder is there a bikers anonymous where we can sit in a circle and talk about bikes and get help lol
Hi Mark, I have a piaggio fly 4t 4v 2013 50cc scooter I have put 5g rollers in and I have put a performance exhaust on and a performance cone airfilter and it has a 72 main jet in it. It doesn't have much power up hill could u please recommend me to do anything else that will help thanks. Adam.
hi bud being a 4t its restricted by cdi so all the things you are doing it will still only do 30mph normally maybe a little more now with your upgrades id go back down from 72 jet to a 60 / maybe 64 jet as this should help as your probably flooding it now and this should run better
@@marksavage thanks Mark i get a chance to trade my gsxf 750 98 for a r 1150rt plus some money from my side its red looks great i am just a bit scared thats it not gonna be a moneypitt
@@alenfora1400 well as long as you look out for what i said you should be ok, take it for a test ride , leave money with him and if you dont like it take your money back bud
