I've had a lot of trouble getting Spotify to work with my BMW, in this video I'll show you the steps that I took to fix it.
You need a BMW equipped with Connected Drive Apps support in order to do this.

Thank you for your help. I followed your advice and it worked for me. Went to a BMW dealer earlier and they hadn't a clue!

I've had a 2019 registration 118i since August and Spotify worked great for the first month. It's been pure hell. I miss my album art. I followed all your steps tonight, it's taken me nearly an hour. Tomorrow morning, I will see if this works. Oh and AJ Tracey, nice!! :D

Thanks to you I managed to use Spotify in my BMW, with exactly the same bugs... Thanks anyway.

Unfortunately there's no workaround for the bugs, it's down to Spotify to fix the app and BMW to fix the connected drive reliability. I am in contact with both companies regarding their poor efforts and it would be great if everyone having issues also contacted them to voice their dissatisfaction.

Excellent video, thanks for sharing. Had issues connecting my Pixel 3a to my new Bimmer. Followed your suggested steps and hey presto! I now have Spotify!

I don't know how this isn't working for me and I have a Pixel 6 pro and I did every single thing that you did and still can't see my album cover and it's very slow at 1.6 I have to set up my Bluetooth at 1.3 and it works just fine but I still don't get the album cover

Thanks very much, this is a very informative video. Was the Spotify app installed on your iDrive when you bought the car? When I go into the Apps section in my iDrive, I have Calendar, Messages etc., but no Spotify. The BMW Connected App in my phone tells me it recognises my phone's Spotify as a compatible app but I still can't launch it in the car. I can run Spotify on my phone and just stream the sound via Bluetooth (as I can with any other sound source on the phone, e.g, an mp3 player app, the RU-vid app, an internet radio app) but it's not the same, as it doesn't show the album cover on the car screen and I can't control the playback from the car - instead, every time I want to skip a track etc. I need to do it on the phone.

Hi Callum, have you managed to sort this problem out?, i have the same issue with my samsung s21 in a g31 with id6.

@@jcroman78 from what I've been able to gather from my BMW dealer, the company as a whole no longer supports Spotify... I'm not sure if older car models will continue to support it, but it certainly disappeared from the "My BMW" app in my case. I've found the only working solution is to use my phone mp3 player and stream via bluetooth, or just plug in a USB stick with mp3s on it.

I have a same Problem with Spotify with my 118i 2019 :/ pretty annoying. Even Bluetooth connectivity was unreliable, Today I updated idrive software let's see how it works now. To get an update visit BMW/update and add your VIN to get the Bin file. Follow the instructions.

Followed the steps last night and the Spotify album art shows on my f15 x5. The problem is all this works only when the Car is stationary with park brake on. Any ideas how I can get it to work whilst moving or it won't. Appreciate your video.

@@viniciusabdoracing that's a shame, I haven't tried the older iDrive with Spotify. I have found that using an iPhone is much more reliable but at least on this new idrive this method is still working for me.

Thanks for your video. I have a 2018 M550i, and finally got Spotify to work via iDrive. Biggest issue was turning Car View on as you stated! Thanks so much!

It's a pixel problem. I have a Pixel 6 pro and have had to resort to connecting wirelessly via Bluetooth whenever I use RU-vid Music. When my friends get into my car with iPhones or other Android phones they connect and screen share without any problems. I guess they want use to install a bloody chrome screen to keep them in business. Haven't you guys noticed how hard it is to screen share with anything unless it's made by Google?😢

Good that it works I guess, but looks clunky as hell. Think I'll stick with Deezer with it being fully integrated.

To anyone facing the same issues, please email this reference number SRNUMBER=1-79376609213 to graeme.grieve@bmw.co.uk. Tell them you are experiencing the same fault and you want an update regarding it being fixed. The more people affected that actually contact BMW, the more chance we have of them listening.

iPlayzz I switched to an iPhone. So now everything works great ! But I really miss Android 😭

@@pilou0013 it's absurd that we need to change our phones to get them working with what is supposed to be a premium car. I just wonder if the problem is with BMW or with Spotify.

@@callumWAW I agree 100% with you. But it seems that neither BMW nor Spotify cares about this problem. I saw that on Google search there was a lot of open topic about this issue on BMW and Mini (Which is crazy). I myself contacted BMW France which kindly redirected me to Spotify SAV. community.bmw.com/t5/forum/problème-commande-au-volant-et-spotify/m-p/20749#M1023 But after a few days of investigation it seems that this is spotify's fault because it has been broken since version 8.5.x. At the end I had to resign myself to switching to IOS which works extremely well with Carplay.

@@callumWAW Spotify decided back in 2020 to no longer support their app on iDrive 6 using an Android device. It's ridiculous.

I have emailed Graeme.Grieve@bmw.co.uk and I suggest you do the same. Just explain the issue and how you want it fixed. If we all email them they can't ignore us. It's broken on any Android and any BMW. I've also contacted Spotify and they're even less helpful so far.

@kaypoint got a m140i 2017 too and with iPhone everything worked fine, but now I'm unable to use Spotify with oneplus 6, I will try the solution of the Video.

Easiest thing to do was just buy an old secondhand iphone 6... Keep in the centre console and use Apple CarPlay from it. Made my life 100x easier. The latest Spotify doesn't work with iDrive 5 and I think 6 too... Spotify/BMW isn't interested in resolving this issue.

I have the exact same problem with the x1. I can't even navigate through the tracks via Bluetooth mode only. And when I use the Spotify integration, I can use the arrows on the centre console but the jog wheel causes me issue. Could you let us know who you reached out to for support?

I emailed graeme.grieve@bmw.co.uk and someone named Abbie replied to put me in touch with the connected drive team. Overall they haven't helped at all but I'm pursuing it constantly by telling them that no amount of troubleshooting will resolve this issue as it's a problem with all cars software compatibility with Android. If you give Graeme an email and just mention this support number and that you want to be put in contact with Abbie to get this resolved 1-79376609213. The more people that contact BMW about this the better chance we have of them taking notice. They will try to fob us off so we need to be persistent.

I emailed Graeme with the same case ref and I was put in touch with Abbie, she has replied saying that as I’m not the registered keeper of the vehicle registered to the case ref she can’t update me any further without consent from the originator of the case.

@@theweblord2000 I did let them know that people would be contacting them, I haven't had a reply from my latest email. I will let her know to give out any case information she likes because we're all affected.

@@theweblord2000 the latest reply I've got from them is more disregarding of the issue where they tried to blame my specific device compatibility. I have of course replied proving them wrong and have asked to actually speak to someone senior in connected drive. I will not give up and hope that more people contact them also. I did also let her know that she can give out case information.

How did you get the new iDrive redesign without navigation professional?

Cars with LCI2 come with the new iDrive system, I think it started some time in 2018, this is a 2019 car. I also upgraded the screen in this car to the Pro Nav screen, so now it looks even better!
