@@domni2392 I am 312k miles deep on my 2008 e62 and still red line like no tomorrow. Had bearings done once and that's about it. 0 issues other then the engines accessories. Motors are reliable as can be, its everything else that's the issue lol. My brothers new RAM blew the motor at 28k miles. 😅
Lovely how V10 and straight 5 engines have the unique note. Although I love V12 and straight 6 engines because of the perfect balance, I gotta say V10 and I5 sound the best.
@@sahilm483 Both Aventador and Murciélago, and of course Diablo and Countach too. If u just don't like the Aventador das on u, but most people do especially cuz of it's sound.
Inherent perfect balance is irrelevant these days, the same smoothness and lack of vibration can be engineered through crankshaft weights and balancing weights to get the same smoothness no matter the cylinder count. Anything can be tested and refined completely digitally before 1 atom of iron is smelted.
They failed on mine at 82K miles. It was my own fault and arrogance. Bank 10. The last cylinder to get oil. Definitely should change out at 50K - 60K to be safe. My car was trouble free for 10-yrs. Beast of car with top end like no other.....
Please don't talk from your ass, these engines pass 200 000km easy, hell after the rod bearing procedure and detailed check up the engine can easly do another 200k
Its really not that bad. The entire intake system comes off with 10 hose clamps and the starter is right there. Once you are familiar with the engine its easy to do a starter in 2 hours. Starter failure is also pretty unheard of on these motors. I work on them every day and its rare to do a starter.
Qu'est-c e que tu fais là toi ! mdrrr content de te voir, ça fais aumoins 2ans que j'ai pas regarder une de tes videos waaaa jsuis choqué de retrouver sur une video d'un moteur de BM
Customer: I need to service my car’s starter, how much is it? Mechanic: what car? Customer: it’s the BMW V10 engine Mechanic: 100 dollar Customer: oh shit that’s amaz.... Mechanic: for you to leave me and never to come back.
@@yankidiot I’d imagine the 1LR-GUE is a lot more than the S85 purely due to the rarity of that particular engine, but both are relatively expensive. Regardless, anything about price point is besides the point. Definitely have to hand it to the LFA for the best sounding V10 in a road car...
@@jankington216 Oh yeah I agree with ya. But it’s still a V10, so it is still comparable to other V10s. An exhaust system specifically tuned to enhance the sound doesn’t change that fact…
I had a 2010 m5 and that car cost me over 11,000 in repair in two years of owning it. Don’t buy this car unless you are crazy and obsessed with owning one or you are a M certified mechanic. I’m tell you what problems I Had to get fixed to save you the troubles. First was the rear deferential 1,000.00 then the clutch and pump 8,500.00 the sensors three different ones at different time parts and repair 700.00 core packs 4 and plugs 10 plus tune up! And some other expensive I remember because I’m trying not to because it’s so painful. I paid 29,000.00 out the plus for taxes and dealerships fees and I had the car less than a two years. Luckily with all the work I had done on the car with the records I was able to sell it to another sucker like myself who wanted to car for so long when it first came out. It’s was a dream car for me at that time because they was priced at a lil over 102,000.00 grand. But anyway I sold it for 18,500.00 and never looked back. Replaced it with a 2018 c63s coup and I love it never had any problems but oil gaskets which was repaired under the warranty. Don’t buy any car with this motor and technology
Damn dude that’s terrible. Wonderful machines, but they’re unfortunately good for nothing but being garage queens now, awaiting appreciation. Who knows when that’ll be. Otherwise, they’ll just break. A colleague of mine stores his son’s M5 at his warehouse. I’ve never seen it move from its spot.
Expensive coffeetable... one of these runs for 10.000€ on second hand sites. These are magnificent engines. But a bitch if something happens to them... Expensive and exotic, BMW spared no expense in its design. Nor on the heavenly soundtrack this thing produces at 8000rpm
The only BMW engine I would never own again...Love the sound - was intoxicating...however: Between rod bearings and a tendency to hyperfuel a bank of cylinders to the point of hydrolock...no thank you. My finger used to shake hitting the start button. Oh, and the fuel 'economy' coupled with a small tank, and you can forget passing many gas stations.
I don't think this engine was ever built for fuel economy. Nor the reliability. I'm pretty sure it was built for power. For fuel economy was built 2.0 turbodiesel. And for the reliability - 2.5 gasoline straight-six.
S85 weren’t bad as long as you knew how to keep it. First off, they are meant to warm up. The 10W-60 oil was very thick and most owners mashed on them cold, causing the unmerited bearing failure issue. Proper maintenance was key and they are just fine.
@@cheesebusiness you see that big circle disk spinning? Thats the flywheel, and directly on top of that, where the nipple lookin object is, is the starter. Youre only seeing the front of the starter, its not that small, its roughly the size of a childrens american football. This is how all modern cars are “started”, not just bmws. The starter receives the electricity outputted by the ignition, spins the flywheel, and gets the crank shaft to spin and operate the rest of the engine simultaneously with the ecm. So if u ever wonder where the starter is on any car, just look for where the engine connects to the transmission, and the starter will always be there.
Toyota V8 is the same. I was going to change mine myself. I scrubbed around under the SUV looking for the starter and could not find it....WTF..? Oh, I finally found it.
bonjour broum. Vroum ... Vroum ... Vroum et vroum sympa l accélérateur il irait bien dans le salon mieux qu'une chaîne musical amicalement lepeltierferrari 👍👍👍👍👍👍😇
Nice👍. but id hate to be the one to change that starter motor if it ever goes. It's looks like it would be a nightmare to Change when engine is back in the car
Fearing the reliability of these engines, I bought a used Audi S6 V10 instead thinking it would come with reasonable maintenance costs. That did not work out well, at all.
