You absolute legend!!! I was locked out of my X5, the battery was completely dead and the driver's door handle is damaged so I couldn't open the door manually. I had a locksmith out to have a look and he was also stumped, so had to leave and arrange for a colleague to come the next day. In the meantime I found your video. I bought a battery charger and a piece of wire and followed the instructions and hey presto! The boot lid popped after about 5 seconds. I'm now in the car and charging the battery so we're back in business! You saved me $325. I'm so grateful you put this video up! What an absolute legend!!
After hours and hours of watching videos on how to open my trunk with a dead battery, and trying everything except drilling into my car, I came across your video. You my friend saved the day. It took 30 second and my trunk just unlocked. So excited. Thank you very much.

Thumbs up and subscribed. My 2006 BMW X5 battery was dead after not being driven for two weeks . Tried this trick snd it worked . I did have to keep the wire on the plate light for Alittle longer (about 10 seconds ) after I Hurd the car make a beep sound but I was able to open my trunk .

Ya this locking function won’t work until ur car battery gets fully charged. So once u have hacked in the car, provide a jump start to bmw by another car and let it charge 15 mins… after that your key fob lock unlock shud work.

If you car is equipt with a towbar You can open your car with a car battery and speakercable and a meassure instrument to look what is your - and + . Take towbar for connect - and other + in 1 one of the holes except the - connection from the plug box of towbar. Make connections correct and wait 5 minutes and you can open your car with your key like normal!
Did not work on ‘06 BMW X5 E53. The lamp hot contact is disconnected from power because light switch disconnects it from circuit when lights are switched off. I plan to run a pair of decent gauge wires from under hood battery terminals and run them down to fog/driving light area. i can pull the plastic light surround off and run the wires there with screw on electrical connectors on wire ends. i can snap plastic trim piece back on and pop off if i need to put a 12v jump pack on those wires or put on a charger.there and that should allow key to work in door and i can pop hood or tailgate. I could also choose to run wires from battery to hide behind trailer hitch pop off plastic trim cover. that should work for me.
The positive end on the bulbs connect to the the LCM (Light Control Module) which has high side MOSFET driver IC's in the circuit. If you do this there is a good chance that you will blow these IC's (1 for each bulb) especially if you use a high current supply like a lead acid battery. 😭
Hey thanks for input David - good thing … I tried it several times and did not blow up the LCM module because bulbs still glow … and many other people did the same what I told and I did not hear any complaint of bulbs blowing up … or any other light issues
Didn't work for mine. I hooked up the jumper cables and wire to the positive side of the bulb and the bulb came on, tried to open the hatch and it wouldn't open.
@@indianmanuinusamds8832 I did and it didn't work. It's ok though, I ended up calling a locksmith. My battery wasn't dead. Whole other situation going on.
Not working on my 2005. Tail light bulbs come on, but no luck opening the tailgate. The battery is dead, key in ignition, hood open, all doors locked. Any advice?
I did not understand ur full comment … objective is to get trunk to open by powering the trunk button circuit which is in series to tag lamp circuit … so try pushing trunk button manually while the tag lamp lights up… it shud open the trunk … once u have trunk open, just jump in Thru trunk and manually open doors from inside, then do a battery jump to make ur car live again
Don’t know the electrical scheme for 2011 but I am not 100% sure they wud change wire harness assignment … if they have not, then u stand a chance to deploy the solution and see if it works
Don’t give power 12V at rear tag plate lamps then… seems like there is an internal short in series to tag plate circuit … unless that short is fixed, u won’t be able to apply the solution I show in video… so find where smoke is coming from, fix the short by putting some plastic bag or insulator to separate positive and negative wire and then try the solution shown in video
@@goldencross2947 ya solution works IF battery is dead… cause we are jumping all circuit from battery and all in between to directly power trunk lid open button
Yes the solution works with closed door closed trunk … access to car tag light where u need to connect 12V (like I show) is outside, so door close does not matter
How could this possibly work? If it did, literally anyone could easily break into the X5. Powering the lamp would work, but the switch is a completely different circuit.
Probably because with charged battery, all safety systems are still supported by battery power but once battery is 0V, we put direct 12 V at tail lamp and jump all safety… and it operates the local circuit.
I used another cars battery to jump 12v at the lamp area which I show in my video... this skips all electrical system and directly gives power to the trunk lock switch
U take current from another cars battery , skip the beemers main electrical system by direct jumping to tail lamp , press trunk button manually at same time or if your fob has battery, use that button
IndianManuinUSA MDs I did it when my battery was dead in less then 30 seconds but the second time I needed to do it there was no battery in car at all would not work at all
